Entry!I was just vacationing near the moist jungles of the inner part of the continent. Of course, I wanted to see the rare and exotic creatures that lived among the ferns and trees, but I knew my guardian wouldn't let me more than a few steps from our cozy retreat lodge. I never thought- I never dreamed that I would come across such a rare and wondrous creature as the legendary Whip-Tails. They were the stuff that you saw in magazines. They existed, I knew that, but I hadn't gotten to see much more of them then sketches and a few blurry, grainy photographs. Nothing real, nothing tangible.
When the villagers that lived near the lodge told me, I wanted to try. Wanted to join the locals and compete. But my prize was not bragging rights or anything of the sort. My prize would be the experience of seeing a real life Whip-Tail. But, of course, my chaperon wasn't letting me anywhere near the dark forest. It wasn't until, one early morning, just as the sky was lightening, and the entirety of the jungle was filled with shifting veils of fog, that I got my chance. I hadn't meant to leave, not really. But when I saw the chance- well, yes, I took it. I'm embarrassed to say so, but I'm not always the perfect little student. Sometimes I break the rules.
It was cool, at least for the rainforest, so I was wearing long sleeves and jeans to keep myself safe from bugs and any thorns. I snuck carefully along a few winding trails, trying to keep track of where I was going. When I tripped and landed in a nearly transparent creek, I shook myself off and rocketed up onto the bank. I sat down, hard, feeling my jeans and shoes squish from my little spill. I sighed, rubbing at my rather dirty cheeks. I wasn't going to find any Whip-tails. Who was I kidding?
I felt the annoying itch of pollen up my nose, and sniffed once, trying to banish the sneeze, to little avail. "Ah...ah...."
"Tsch!" The sharp sound of a sneeze came, not from my own lips, but from the bushes downstream a ways. I glanced up, the surprise managing to cut off my own building sneeze. I blinked once, as some rustles came from the bushes, and a creature toppled out. He was all legs and tail, with a silvery coat patched with white. His little tan hooves cut into the moist ground as he rose up, blinking about sweetly.
My breath caught in my throat. Everything about him, from his little hooves, to his streaked mane, and his banner-like tail. He continued forward, wobbling along, until he stood in front of me. He crumpled down, landing with his legs sprawled and his head on my leg. I almost jerked in surprise, until he started to tuck in his legs and snuggle his head into my lap. I was frozen, unable to react or move as he settled in. My hands were up from when I tried to cover my sneeze, and they hovered in the air. I couldn't move, I couldn't breathe. I was too scared that this would turn about to be some sort of mirage.
My hands quavered in the air, almost brushing his forelock and ears. I wanted to touch him, but I didn't want to startle him either. Dappled light as the sun rose shone down on us, with the fog dissipating into the air. I closed my eyes, my hand still hovering in the air- until I felt the velvety softness press against my fingers. (Whee, just a little blurb to go along with my entry!) Goodness gracious, I was so excited for this. Still am! Though honestly, this was quite a bit of work. Painting takes hours...especially when doing little details. Everything was painted, without pencil. I added some black lines on the girl (me) and the foal. The Whip-tail, of course, is my beautiful baby boy, Everaise, who I am incredibly in love with and protective of! So of course I wanted to include him, as a little baby! I had fun doing this- whether or not I win, it was just a fun thing to do. XD I hope you enjoy!
To anyone else, feel free to PM me questions, comments, critique, or whatever! XD I'm tired...need to sleep now..I stayed up late to put the finishing touches on. XD
