Name: Khamari
Species: wolf (unknown species)
Personality:
Khamari is unusually curious. He'd go up to anyone and anything with only the intent to observe them or be friendly. It seems like this would be the kind of thing that would get him into trouble, even killed. But no, the spirits, demons, and animals of the Endless Forest respect that kind of thing. They're not dumb, and they do not kill without reason. Rarely are the more intimidating and frightening ones treated with respect, and when they are they return that respect as a matter of honor. Khamari tends to bring out that respect in creatures from most people's worst nightmares.
He's never been attacked, and has no scars. His coat is always clean, he prides himself on that. He likes to make sure that he's always presentable, and as a result is one of the most handsome wolves in the forest.
But still, he's not exactly a lover boy. Khamari is hyper and easily excited. He bounds around and never seems to grow up. While bigger than most wolves, his personality hasn't changed since he was a pup. Tongue lolling and eyes wide with excitement, he's often seen running for a reason none can really understand. He's fit for sure, and does tricks that circus freaks would envy. He can jump up trees by bounding from one trunk to another, using each one as a sideways platform to lift off from as he goes higher and higher. He can jump down 40 feet and land just so that he does a little forward roll and isn't even bruised. Of course, he's a canine, so he doesn't have opposable thumbs and can't swing from branches or any of that stuff, but he does almost anything else with grace and joy.
Admitabely, he's not exactly the smartest wolf in the forest, so he makes up for it in spunk. At first he might appear to just be hyper, but if you observed him for long enough you'd notice something. He's never noisy. He talks and barks occasionally, but for the most part he's silent as a lamb. Khamari is never rude or disrespectful, he's doesn't trick or decieve, he's just honest and happy. He doesn't flirt with danger, and he's not at all intimidating. Gentle as anything, he prefers not to kill pray, but to scavenge it.
He's not completely independent, enjoying company and an audience wherever he goes. But he doesn't have a family any more. As soon as he was old enough he left the pack he was born in. He's still young, and as it just so happens in a rather odd phenomenon, he's the exact same age as Rhanno, Shou, and Mage. (old adoptables, but Mage is from the agency) In fact, they were all born on the exact same day, their fates entwined.
Khamari isn't really nervous very often, or brave for that matter, but he tends to be cautious and unsure of himself at times. His walk is never cocky, when he does walk. Most of the time he runs. He's very good at dodging limbs and leaping over rocks and logs. He seems to bound through the forest without obsticle. He isn't particularly fast, but he's so swift that it makes it seem so.
Likes:
Khamari likes to run and do tricks. Mostly to run... Running is his favorite thing in the entire world. If he could, he would surely run forever, to the ends of the world and back. (unfortunately, the world is round) He runs swifly and quietly, his paws barely skimming the ground as he bounds above, below, around and through any obsticle he comes across. He also enjoys a good challenge.
His other favorite thing is the night. He loves the dark night, with stars over head. He's facinated by constilations, always seeing strange creatures and funny shapes in the sky. Sometimes he'll use the stars he's seen to tell stories. Usually they're funny stories. He can make almost anyone laugh, and has to be careful that he doesn't laugh too.
He also likes hot springs. He'll wade into them or even swim in them whenever he gets the chance. They seem to energize and excite him even more, especially if there's a waterfall involved that he can run through or leap down from. He's an excellent swimmer and good at determining how deep water is, even from the tops of waterfalls. (not really big ones though)
Dislikes:
There's not a whole lot that Khamari dislikes. He likes everyone he meets, no matter how scary.
But there is one thing he absolutely hates. That would be cold weather. Khamari is built for heat and humidity. The forest supplies both of these quite well, and he wouldn't survive long in cold weather. His fur is thick enough to handle it, but just the sensation of cold against his fur and having any heat sucked from his body absolutely horifies him.
Background (Optional, but it gives you a better shot):
Khamari was born to a small pack of wolves in the middle of the Endless Forest. Unlike traditional wolf packs, these had less social lives, for they spent their time watching out for danger and trying to pick a few scraps here and there. His people don't know about humans, and will never meet any. When he was born he had three siblings. They were never named, because the forest proved itself once again to be a dangerous place a few days after the pups were born. A demonic owl faced creature, steam hissing wherever it's feet hit the ground, decided it would attack the wolves. It hungered blood and fear, and when it approached the wolves they shook in fear. Khamari's mother was dragged to safety by his father, but the pups were left behind. There just wasn't enough time to get them out of the way. The owl faced creature's beak like mouth seemed to streatch as it gobbled down the wolf puppies one by one in a most horrifying way. Khamari was the last one, and when Owl Face (that's it's name) bent down to eat him, something stopped it. Unlike the other pups, Khamari was not afraid. He sat up strait and looked Owl Face in the eyes. He wasn't being cocky or daring Owl Face to kill him, the little pup was simply curious, and there was something respectful about the way he observed the demon. Khamari was spared, and Owl Face left without a word...
Story:
(involves characters from past adoptions, to see their backgrounds, ect. look here:
viewtopic.php?f=10&t=57129)“Well, will you look at that? Just like his father!” A voice rumbled, deep and proud. Little Khamari didn’t fully understand all of what was being said, but he knew his father must be happy. From the moment he could walk, Khamari was off and running into trouble. He was strong and adventurous, though perhaps not the smartest pup of the litter. Then again, Khamari never knew his siblings. Natural selection did it’s trick, and three of the four were eaten by larger predators.
Now, and important part of Khamari’s history that you must remember is that he and the others lived at a time very different from our own. It is neither the future nor the past, and fate tended to wind around those you were fortunate enough to meet. Be it a friendly spirit or a demon. Conditions were harsh, not climate wise, but predation and competition seemed to be at their height in the forest where the wolves lived.
Anyway, Khamari did very well, despite the challenges at hand. Perhaps it was the fact that he was so happy-go-lucky that made predators sit and watch rather than prey upon him as they should have. He knew all sorts of amazing stunts, and the forest creatures respected him for it. Nothing could hold him down. In fact, he was barely more than a pup when he left his family in search of adventure. They didn’t attempt to stop him, for as they say, “It’s a dog eat dog world.” He traveled mainly through the endless forests, teasing and toying with fate.
One day, fate decided to toy with him as well. From a distance he began seeing strange shapes moving about the forest. From a distance, it seemed that there was a giant lion roaming the forest. But Khamari was puzzled. He knew that lions didn’t live in the forest, no matter how large it was. He snuck closer to get a better look and was surprised at what he saw. The creature he had thought to be a lion was nothing of the sort. It was nearly the size of an elk, sported a small mane, and appeared to be a juvenile female. He could only stand and stare, transfixed. Rather than the thin tail of a lion, this creature had a long, bushy tail and pointy ears. It was undoubtedly feline, but the coloration was also very odd. Rather than golden it was closer to a caramel color with dark stripes and odd patterns. The thing that attracted his attention the most was that it looked very dangerous, and appeared to be hunting. Naturally, he threw caution to the wind.
Khamari did one of the dumbest things in history. He bounded out of cover like a giddy deer and stood in front of a predator six times his size. With a happy grin on his face, he looked up, being sure to make eye contact, and introduced himself. “Pardon me for interrupting, but I couldn’t help but ask. What in the name of Din’au are you?”
Despite all odds, as often was with Khamari, the creature did not attack. Instead, it sat down, looking thoroughly startled. After a pause, she responded, “What am I? What kind of a question is that!?! Hmph…” She inhaled deeply, and breathed out her foul smelling breath in his face. She was young, and just as curious as Khamari, “I’ll tell you my name, and I’ll tell you what I am, but first, you must tell me who YOU are.”
Khamari smiled widely, showing all of his teeth, “Deal. My name is Khamari, I come from the western part of the forest. I fear nothing and no one.”
Rhanno nodded slowly, and in response smiled just as widely if not wider, “My name is Rhanno. I don’t yet know where I come from, but I grew up with a family of raccoon foxes. I’m an Ehoran, and I’ll be the next leader of the forest by inheritance.”
Khamari seemed skeptic, “Leader? But Din’au is the leader!”
Rhanno shook her head, “Din’au is the creator and the destroyer, she owns the forest, she made the forest, but she has allowed my family line to help keep things in check. I know this by instinct, and because she told me.”
“You’ve spoken to Din’au, the Deer God?!?” Khamari gaped, suddenly in awe of the young Ehoran.
“Not directly. She speaks through minds, not with a voice. Don’t you know that?” Rhanno was beginning to wonder if this wolf had any education at all. “Didn’t your parents teach you anything?!”
Khamari grumbled something to the effect of, “Not all wolves are as smart.”
Rhanno laughed, “You aren’t half bad, Khamari! I like you!”
Khamari glowed under her praise, “Thanks, it’s an honor to meet you.”
They talked for some time, exchanging news on the forest and finding out more about each other. Though they were different species, one ultimate predator and one simply wolf, the two came to be quite good friends. “It’s getting dark.” Rhanno observed after a while, she looked up at the sky. They were sitting in a very spread out part of the forest, and the stars were clearly visible. Khamari was busy staring at her, and simply nodded, “Uh-huh.” Rhanno stood up, “I’m sorry, I have to go. Maybe our paths will cross again some day, good luck and may things always be in your favor Khamari!” The trees seemed to bow around her, making Khamari more aware that Rhanno was a very powerful creature. “Thank you Rhanno, and I hope the same for you.” But as he spoke the words, she was already gone.
Saddened, Khamari continued on with a little less spunk and spring in his step. He began to brighten, slowly but surely. He watched the forest move around him, alive and beautiful. He felt small for the first time, and was reminded of the miracles all around him. The wind whispered in his ears, and something ahead was making the leaves swirl and dance, lighting up a portion of the forest with a sort of glow. Khamari stared in wonder, drawing closer until he saw two canines similar to himself. One was a red Akita Inu, with his head bowed he. The other was a sort of dog with black spots and odd patterns. The dog was the one making the forest glow and the leaves dance, he touched his nose to the head of the Akita, who stood up in return. The lights faded slowly, signifying the end of their strange ceremony. The dog turned his head, he had spotted Khamari. The dogs eyes were a bright blue, and when Khamari made eye contact he was caught under a sort of spell, and against his will walked forward until he stood in front of the two dogs.
The Akita tipped his head to one side, his eyes brimming in amusement. “Shou, it’s a wolf! How strange, look at him. I’ve never seen another wolf like that!” Shou turned to his companion, setting Khamari free as their eye contact broke, “Yeah, he is a bit odd… You’ve never seen him before Mage?”
Mage shook his head, “Nope! He’s big though. Bigger than us anyway, should we let him join us?” Shou looked thoughtful for a moment, “Why not? If he proves himself worthy I’ll perform the ceremony on him too.”
Khamari watched them talk, confused. He had no idea what they were saying, but it sounded like an adventure, and that’s all he wanted. As he watched them though, he realized that what Mage said was true. He was bigger than them, and when he looked closer he realized that they all seemed to be about the same age, maybe these two weren’t so remarkable.
After a little more debating the pro’s and con’s of letting a stranger travel with them, Shou and Mage turned to Khamari, “You heard all that, right?” Shou asked, “Would you like to join us?”
Khamari nodded, “Yes, I’ll join you.” He decided to bargain, “But you’ve got to tell me what exactly I’m joining, where you’re going, and why.”
They both looked surprised, “Erm… You’re joining our little group I suppose. I’m Shou, and he’s Mage.” Shou tipped his head at Mage and continued, “We’re going to the end of the forest, there’s a whole stretch of unexplored and un-owned land out there. We want to claim it as ours, we’ll be free from the worries of the forest! Of course, there’ll be other dangers, but we’re meant to go there. There’s this lamb, it’s not really a lamb. But it’s name is Oya, and it spoke to me, it still sometimes speaks to me and allows me to do strange things. But Oya wants us to go there, I think you’re meant to go too.”
When Khamari stared back dumbly Shou added, “It’s where night magic comes from.”
Khamari still looked confused, but then he seemed to understand. All at once it was as if he had known Shou and Mage his entire life. “How long have you been traveling?” He asked.
“Not long, just a few days.” Mage responded this time, “I’m from up in the mountains. I’m the last wolf of Null, and Shou came and asked me to come too. I think the “Oya” he talks about is some kind of spirit. Once you start traveling with us you’ll be allowed to do strange but amazing things too.”
“Oh, I see.” Khamari’s tail started wagging, “What are you waiting for? Lets go!”
And so, Khamari set out with Mage and Shou on an epic journey to the undiscovered lands. There, they would find wide plains, and strange upside down bell shaped flowers that bloomed at night and created magic like pollen spores. As he traveled with them, Khamari became wiser, but he remained the same, easily excitable and easy to like wolf as always. He was treated with respect, and the three were the friendliest bunch that ever attempted to rule the smaller world (in a way). They worked together in a way unknown before, no one dared attack them. Khamari still awaited the day when he would once again meet Rhanno, and the very thought of what to come made him trudge on eagerly. Khamari was destined for greatness, and he intended to live up to whatever challenges were thrust upon him. Which is exactly what he did.
Wee, that was fun! I might edit though if I think of anything else to add.
