A single stone pillar stood in the dark room; casting a long shadow across the floor. At the top of the pillar there was a glowing egg-shaped jewel; it's color being that of a shining lake at dawn. Moving in an almost liquid fashion; a shape stepped from the coal shaded shadows like a swimmer emerging from water. His blue eyes matched the shade of the stone perfectly; almost as if the twin ovals of turquoise were carefully carved from it's shining surface. No smile curved across the creature's face; instead, he brought with him an air of importance, pride, and coldness. He gazed across the room with no fear; and continued across the floor until he stood directly in front of the black pillar. No other creature could be seen in the room; yet the white furred shape spoke all the same, as if he could sense the presence of another. "This is the Hollow Pillar. Like me, it is empty." His voice echoed across the high walls; calm and void of emotion. "For I am the lord of emptiness." There was no quaver to his voice; it continued to remain strong and steady as he went on. "The stone you see is that of a soul. My soul, to be exact. And this," he motioned with his tail across the room and the connecting passageways, "This is my labyrinth. My world. My kingdom. My prison. You have trespassed." A wry smile took shape on his mouth as he spoke those words. It must have been a speech that he was able to use often, for each word was as articulate and perfect as the one before it. "And for that, you shall pay. Not by my own teeth and claws; but by this maze itself. There is no escaping from its treacherous depths." He paused, listening. Retreating pawsteps faded into the distance. The creature tossed his head; flipping the long coal black fur from his eyes, and returned to the shadows of his domain. The stone room was once again empty; except for the lonely pillar.Pet's ID TagOne Hundred and Three

SpeciesLucius is not a wolf. He is not a fox, a jackal, or a dog. He is not even a canine. No terms such as these can be applied to him. For Lucius is a god. He is the lord of all things lacking and empty, the ruler of coldness and mental strength. He is crafted from the stars themselves; a product of the soiled and crushed dreams and hopes of others. He is literally created from hollow, painful feelings; the embodiment of the struggles of many. He was, however, crafted in the image of a canine; or more specifically, an Ethiopean wolf.
Inspirational Songs"As the World Falls Down"By David Bowie
I was watching Labyrinth a few days ago, and daydreaming about Lucius throughout the whole thing. When the ballroom scene came on and this song started playing; I began to realize how perfectly the words fit in cadence to Lucius' life and struggles. I was left wondering who might be the creature to "sing" these words to him. It was from this song that I came up with the character of Case; who is there for Lucius "as his world falls down."

Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in.This song; specifically the above lyrics; really seems to sum up to outlook on life that Lucius struggles to grasp with the help of Case. The whole thing is perfectly symbolic of the torrents of conflicting pain and hope that surge through him with every breath that he takes.
Reason You Want ItI am a writer; an author. I do not use this term lightly, as do others that I know who believe that by writing a paragraph about their character they can give themselves that title. Last year I was one of our state’s highest ranking writers. I have the medals to prove it. I’m working on getting my first book published right now; and I have three more to follow. I am very serious about this topic. I do not adopt characters to get art of, or just because I like their design. (I must admit that Lucius is exceptionally gorgeous, though. His eyes, his markings, his colors; they all are in perfect harmony.) I choose to adopt a character based on whether or not I connect with him or her. This may sound strange to many; but I select a character on the grounds of it speaking to me or not. I do not mean that in my mind that character jumps off the screen and begins a conversation with me. Instead; it is simply an awakening of my muse; the character’s life being played out in my mind just by my staring at its image on a screen. His struggles, his thoughts, his feelings; they all seem to be made evident to me. I am the scribe of my characters. They tell me their stories; and in return, I document their pasts in the form of books. It is my wish for Lucius to take his place at my side as a beloved book character; for I believe that I will be able to take him further than anyone else; into the world of ink and paper. He would be given his own website, and would be lavished with short stories while his book is being written. And even though I’m not a fan of buying my characters art; I think that I shall have to make an exception for Lucius. He is simply too amazing to not be gifted with such things.
History/Background/OtherLucius is highly intelligent; and likes others to be aware of that fact. He is often able to verbally fight his way from bad situations; yet does not mind using his teeth and claws to enforce his words. Strong-willed and confident; it is rare for anther to be able to sway his opinions and beliefs. Lucius is not cruel or hateful; he is simply cold. Sympathy and patience are not among his traits. But of all the aspects of Lucius; there is one that stands out the most. He is incapable of feeling love. He understands liking something or someone; but is not able to grasp the concept of love. It is because of this that he is called the hollow lord. Along with love; compassion and friendship are terms that he is unfamiliar with. When the other gods went about making someone to join them, someone to be the bearer of emptiness, they did an exceptional job. For empty has turned out to be one of the words that best describes Lucius. At first; the gods loved Lucius. They figured that his stony exterior was only a product of him being new to their circle, and that he would warm up to them over time. Their prediction turned out to be unbelievably wrong. The lord of emptiness had been created with a hole inside his soul; one that was void of love, friendship, and compassion. It seemed that as time went on; the hole grew. When he spoke; no words of kindness or justice fell from his jaw. Instead; he spoke of the only things he truly understood; pain, misfortune, and punishment. An air of coldness seemed to always follow him around the palace; somewhat like his own little storm-cloud. Within the first century of Lucius living alongside them; the gods gave up. It was quite evident that he would not change by their words alone. Drastic measures would have to be taken in order to fix the god. Though they secretly wished that they could simply destroy him; it would have been impossible. Gods can not be destroyed. Exile would not work either; for it was not Lucius' fault that he acted the way he did. Instead, the gods turned to the labyrinth. It was a giant, ancient maze; stretching over dozens upon dozens of acres. It was made purely of gray stone; the walls reaching as high as twenty feet. Dangers lurked throughout the passageways; but the gods altered the dark creatures so that they would view Lucius as their lord; and not harm him. In the center of the labyrinth there was a huge, empty room. Because the gods could not go without turning something simple into something dramatic; a lonely pillar was placed in the center of the room. It was made of onyx; and reached a stunning height of thirty feet; rising above even the labyrinth's exceedingly high walls. On top of it a large egg-shaped gem was placed. The stone matched Lucius' eye color perfectly; for it was meant to represent his soul. The goal of placing Lucius in the maze was to teach him the emotions he lacked; love, compassion, and the ability to become friends with others. For it was the gods' hope that someday someone would happen to stumble into the labyrinth; someone who Lucius wouldn't be able to stay away from. Since there was no way out from the labyrinth; all wanderers would be forced to stay until picked off by the labyrinth's inahbitants. It was the hope of the gods that one of the travelers Lucius met would be able to teach him the things he lacked. Their plan was far-fetched, yet possible. Once the hole inside his soul was closed by him embracing those emotions; the blue stone would fall from the pillar, and Lucius would be transported back to the palace of the gods; where he would return to their council. There was, of course, the matter of to what extent Lucius would be broken when the creature he fell in love with would be left in the maze to die; but she would be a mortal. The gods did not care for mortals. Besides; Lucius would be able to forget about her in due time once returning to the castle. Surely he wouldn't be foolish enough to become too attached to some mortal female. And so the god of emptiness was cast inside the labyrinth; into the world where time did not exist; and everything hung in a gray, low, eternal dusk.

Lucius bounded down one of the stone passageways; chasing after some type of small creature. He raced arund the corners with ease, never breaking speed or slipping on the smooth surface. With a single leap he pinned down the creature; then let it go. Killing it would be pointless; for food was not essential to a god. He flipped the long fur out of his eyes; and confidently stalked down the hall; his movements as fluid as those of a cat. He had learned his way around the the labyrinth years ago; and now as could walk it's many acres with as much direction as a person could navigate their own home. He had been trapped in the cursed place for so many years that he had lost count, and still had not grasped the emotions that he lacked. The solitude did not bother him; instead it gave him time to ponder the many aspects of the world around him. Though he hadn't learned what he was sent to, his intelligence had significantly increased; even though it was high to begin with. Lucius made his way back to the main chamber; and cast his stunning blue gaze up to the jewel that rested on top the single pillar. A small sigh escaped him as he looked up at it. The shining gem hadn't moved at all since it was first placed. The hollow lord sluck to the shadows where he laid down; gazing intently at it. Above the cursed rock the gray sky hung low. It was never day here, and never night. It was simply gray. In this world, everything was gray. Just as he did not need food; Lucius did not require sleep. So indtead of falling into the abyss of rest; he simply laid there daydreaming. So many had entered the maze since he was palced inside; and none of them lived. He would confront them, warn them, and they would dash off. Even it they could make it back the the enterence; it was a one way door. They generally would end up getting lost and would be killed by the many creatures of the endless corridors. Lucius had tried to become close to some of them; yet in the end they died. His quest to learn love seemed to be a hopeless one. He continued to glare at the stone, as though he could somehow cause it to fall by willpower alone.
Lucius did not know for how long he laid in the shadows across from the pillar; plotting its demise. Suddenly; the sound of approaching pawsteps brought him to his senses. He groaned inwardly; the last thing he wanted was another visitor. He shook his coal black fur from his eyes; a habit of his that he had done from the day he was created. Like a lion ready to pounce he waited in the shadows; invisible to anyone who chose to enter he chamber. His head snapped up as a black form walked through the enterence to the room. Long sleek black fur hung over the cretaure's lithe frame. It had long legs and a ruff of fur on the back of its neck like a maned wolf. Twin glowing amber eyes stared into the shadows; as though it knew that someone else was there. Knowing that he couldn't evade the creature, Lucius stepped from the shadows; parting them like servants.
"Greetings." The black wolf's voice was not feminine; yet was not as deep as a male's. Her expression was a reflection of Lucius'; stony and confident. Lucius nodded to her.
"Welcome. I am Lucius; and this is my domain."
The female snorted. "Your domain? Seems to be more like your prison." Lucius glared at her; and for the first time could not find the right words to throw back at her. "My name is Colecasa. You may call me Case." Her voice was sligtly accented; articulate and strong. Case's golden gaze met his; and for a moment they simply stared at each other. She flicked her long tail at the pillar with the stone, and continued speaking. "I know that I cannot leave here; and I have no intention of dieing. You might as well explain this place."
"Yes, of course," Lucius said; thinking. Confusion swam in his blue eyes for a moment; then he shook his head, clearing his thoughts. Case smiled tentatively at him for a moment; then her expression was stony once again. A strange feeling welled up inside Lucius; and by some force, he knew that he would no longer be the lonely god.

Paws thrummed against stone as two shapes went racing through the hall; nothing more than flashes of black and white. A tight corner sent them skittering into each other before they dashed away again, running at dangerous speeds throughout the passageways. As they reached the room with the single pillar they both sped up; slipping into it at the same time, and landing in a furry heap on the floor. The darker creature laughed as she panted for breath. "I touched it first." Her companion responded by growling playfully.
"Sure you did." Neither moved, instead they simply laid on the floor; gazing intently at each other. Amber disolved into black as Case closed her eyes and gently touched her muzzle to Lucius'. It had been weeks since she had arrived; and slowly, they had grown close. Time did not exist in the labyrinth; so thankfully, Case did not age. Though she was mortal; the maze's power kept her from needing food, water, or sleep. A warm feeling spread through Lucius; and he touched his nose to her cheek; enjoying the closeness they shared. At that moment; Lucius did not care if he ever escaped the maze. Surely living here with Case for eternity would be better than being trapped in the place with the other gods. Frankly, that life was boring; and Lucius no longer felt any longing for it. Case smiled at him; and Lucius felt his insides melting. She was amazing; so much like him. As they stood up and walked off, talking; Lucius prayed that the stone would never fall.
I understand that by adopting this creature I take full responsibility for it.Indeed, I do.

AfterwordThank you very much for reading and considering my form. I've fallen in love with Lucius; and I pray that I will be able to call him mine. I truly feel that I connect with him more than I do with any of my current characters; he shall have a bright future with me. It's my hope that someday there shall be a book in libraries and on shelves about a god named Lucius. A god who's road to salvation was a constant struggle. Being an author; I believe that I can turn this dream; this hope and this prayer into a reality.
