Gaea will be judged in 4 days!
The curtains were swept open, allowing moonlight to wash over the oak flooring of the grand Altar. Gaea felt her heart flutter as she took one delicate step into the pool of light and out in front of hundreds of blinking eyes. It was a disconcerting sight.
She felt her fur rise with her mounting tension and the Faerre swallowed nervously, her paws kneading the unyielding floorboards. "I'm Gaea." she said, blinking amber eyes at the crowd. "I'm a Faerre that just reached maturity - I've finished my studies but I haven't been assigned a job yet. I- I'm not sure what I want to be and so I'm here tonight to ask for help." Gaea dipped her head timidly to the crowd and sat down, curling her tail over her paws to hide her shivering.
Gaea will be judged in 7 days, August 25th, 2013, HK Time
A young woman, not quite a full adult, stood somewhere in the middle of the milling crowd around the Altar. She was unusually tall, standing a couple inches over most girls her age and at the same height as many guys. Her arms crossed loosely around her torso, though she shifted them to cross behind her back or hang idly at her sides from time to time. Long brown hair that would have reached down to the middle of her back when untied draped over her left shoulder in a tight ponytail, its tip curling slightly from uncut split ends. The crowd unnerved her slightly, an endless rumble of half-understood words, a rush of muddled smells, and the glances sizing up the competition bombarding her senses, but since many of the faces she saw resembled the simpler creatures from home, she was able to feel a bit more at ease despite the higher intelligence she saw in them. It was a good thing the moon was so bright, or else she'd be jumping at every unanticipated touch, even knowing that the crush of creatures made it inevitable. Small groups were perfectly fine, but crowds like this were just...so busy.
None too soon the curtains lifted from the Altar's stage, the moon illuminating the newest arrival. In the daylight the Faerre's pattern would have implied similarity to that of the aggressive, confident blue jay, but under the soft light of the moon it seemed gentle and quiet, having more resemblance to a silent winter forest hiding secrets under blankets of snow. Gaea, that was her name, gave out her timid introduction, and something clicked within one of her listeners. That listener hung back at the end of the line that quickly formed up towards the stage, trying her best to gain a better semblance of comfort in the tense atmosphere that had suddenly risen at Gaea's reveal. The young woman's heart pounded wildly with anticipation, not helped by the tension in the air nor the line's quick progression. She knew that even if the line took hours, she would never feel ready to try to appeal to the Faerre. Perhaps it was for the best then; get it over with quickly. One of the more bizarre creatures that she couldn't even begin to describe then finished its talk and it was her turn.
...Maybe a few more minutes didn't sound so bad after all.
Taking a deep breath, she carefully made her way up the stairs. Not carefully enough, supposedly, when the tip of her sneaker clipped the edge of the last step and sent her stumbling forward within a few feet of Gaea. Well, it could have been worse. Standing awkwardly, she fumbled with her overlong hoodie sleeves, then moved to running her fingers through her ponytail before hunching down in a cross-legged position. One hand still tangling in her hair and the other retreating to the hoodie's pouch, she lifted her head and dark brown eyes met amber.
"Hey," she began in a quiet, steady voice that betrayed only a slight waver, "Nice to meet you."
Taking notice of the hand still fidgeting with her hair, she brought it down to join the other in the hoodie pouch.
"Um..you said you just finished your studies right? I have too actually...Well, kind of. The lesser part anyways. I'm just now really starting to narrow all that down to focus on I want to do in the future. I have a general idea, just that...I'm unsure of how to start it off. I've gone to prep lectures and all, but I've never really followed through on them."
She gave a sheepish chuckle.
"Lazy and not ready to move on I guess. But reality's creeping on me fast and I won't be able to depend on my parents as much when it's all over. I figure I should start trying now while I still have that luxury, no matter how scary it is."
Fidgeting a little, she looked down at her lap and then glanced upwards at Gaea with a shy, hopeful expression.
"I was hoping...that maybe you could join me? We'd both be taking our first steps into unknown territory, and I figured that, maybe if we did it together, we could rely on one another and make it a bit less scary. I mean isn't that why people are more willing to try new things when with others than alone, because they have someone they can relate to?"
After looking at Gaea for a few more moments, she uncrossed her legs making to get up, and suddenly stopped in a half-kneeling position.
"Oh, forgot to give you my name. Heheh, oops."
Leaning over, she cupped a hand around a black, furry ear and whispered into it. That done, she finished her ascent and looked back down at the Faerre.
"Think on it okay?"
Then she walked down the stage steps -thankfully without stumbling this time- and headed to a spot away from the crowd of expectant creatures. Her nerves were completely frayed and she had no desire to distress herself any further.

Gaea Has ChosenThere were many creatures from around the world that came to visit her that night and Gaea was truly stunned at the large range of animals and beasts she met. There were assassins, scholars, doctors - even creatures from a royal lineage! The young Faerre shuddered in her perch as the last visitor left the stage and the gongs signaled the end of the day. There was one visitor that left a strong impression on her mind. She came with unease radiating off of her and because of a misplaced step, fell within a few feet of her. Gaea had leaped back then, scared and uncertain about the new presence and her ... strange entrance. Not many chose to present themselves like that to Faerres they were aiming to woo. Gaea swallowed nervously and settled down and listened to her words. She was fascinated by the young human who seem to be in a similar situation as herself. Amber eyes widening when the girl leaned forward and whispered her name. Gaea couldn't help the smile blooming on her face - she felt special, being the only one in the area to know her name. Standing up, the young Faerre bowed regretfully to the suitors gathered below, took a big leap and ran towards the young female who bowed too deeply to the ground during their first encounter.

The young woman felt a cold stone resting in the pit of her stomach while Gaea listened to the last suitor. The longer she had waited for Gaea's choice, the more she began to doubt herself and rethink on how she could have done better. Once the suitor had left, Gaea bowed to the audience and jumped off the stage. The young woman quickly clamped her eyes shut, not wanting to see if Gaea chose someone else, but cracked them open again when whispers and murmurs traveled in her direction. The cold stone dissolved into relief at what she saw, and she returned Gaea's bow. Crouching down, she whispered once more into the Faerre's ear with a soft smile lighting her face.
Thank you.
She stood back up and made her way down a path that led out of Vinara, Gaea following at her side.
