(Has no one else gone for Helios? I'm shocked! :0 )
(By the way, this will probably be long.)
Viseria wandered through the crowd with Calvin on her back. People parted quickly to make room for them, although they could have soared over the mob if they had wanted to. "Viseria, look over there!" Calvin said suddenly. A big orange male Nevorath was talking.
Hello everyone! I'm Helios and I would love to meet you! Is everyone having a good time? It would be horrible if everyone wasn't happy! Anyone have a good story? I would love a funny story... Or an adventure story! he practically shouted.
Calvin laughed. "Isn't he brilliant! That's exactly the kind of person... well, dragon I suppose, that the world needs more of. Come on!" Of course, he was riding her, so his excited jumping didn't really affect her slow, easygoing pace.
Brilliant, hmm? I remember you said that about me. Are all dragons brilliant, my friend? "Yes! Yes they are! All dragons are flaming brilliant!" Calvin grinned.
Flaming, ha ha ha. Viseria snorted, making a few people around her jump.
How incredibly funny. she added sarcastically. They were getting closer to where Helios was standing, and Calvin jumped off Viseria and went to run over to the orange dragon.
Not so fast. Viseria grabbed the back of his jacket in her jaws and walked him the rest of the way. Calvin squirmed out of his jacket, which she dropped, and pulling it on, he bowed to Helios. Bowing. Always a good way to start. "Hello, Helios!" Calvin called. "My name is Calvin Sparrow, and this is my bonded, Viseria. I must say," he said, straightening up, "that I think your scales are brilliant. Both literally and figuratively." he added, shielding his eyes as a cloud moved from the sun and a ray of light hit the orange scales, casting glittering tangerine reflections to fly around the surrounding area. "Now, Helios," Calvin continued, "I'd like to tell you a story, as you requested, but I can't think of anything at the moment, so you'll have to excuse us for a bit as we brainstorm. He turned to Viseria, and they began speaking in muted tones.
You could tell him of- "Oh, you're right, that would be good, but there could be something better. How about-"
No, no, too boring. I think we should use the- "No, no, but we'll have to prove a point, such as-
Yes, I like that. Use that. "Right. Helios, this is a story, a story of adventure, that has been temporarily and very hurriedly titled, 'Why Calvin And Viseria Need Another Friend To Help Them.' It is true."
On a far distant planet, nameless here forevermore, there was a boy and a dragon and- okay, trying to rhyme will never work. Let me try over.So it was really far away, right? So far away from here, in fact, that you couldn't fathom the distance, Helios. I don't mean to insult you. No one could, unless they'd been there, seeing their planet as a distant star in the night sky. Otherwise, it would be impossible to imagine how far away we were. It was uncharted, too, never mapped or civilized in living memory. But it was beautiful. The grass was all this brilliant, clear yellow, and when the sun shined it looked like it was glowing. A lot of yellow on that planet. But it was the sunset we really came to see. Yes, the sunset. But not the same as it is here, gradually fading. No, it was a minute to sunset, and still the day blazed fully, with only the slightest hint that it was about to be extinguished. Then, suddenly, a blaze of light arching across the sky, as if the sun had broken and released all it's light, to fly around the heavens forever. But still it burned, changing color from white to brightest red, then orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet, and back again, sending rays of every color shooting above us, bigger than the biggest firework you could imagine. It was so beautiful. Then suddenly, there was total darkness except for the orange stars and the muted colors dancing and fading on the very edge of the horizon. It's caused by the thickness of the atmosphere. The sun actually sets exactly as it does here, but the atmosphere makes it look different. Anyways, we were ready to go but my friend who brought us hadn't come back to pick us up yet, so we decided to camp out. We found a thicket of trees and lay down. Of course, the place is a lot more foreboding at night, because all of the plants turn a dark green which is very beautiful but doesn't really lend itself to easy surveillance of the immediate area around you incase of things that go bump in the night. Ah, I mean, it was really dark and hard to see. We can both see in the dark fairly well, of course, but the leaves obscured everything. We fell asleep. Probably should have taken turns though. 'Cause when I woke up it wasn't because it was dawn, but rather because of the gigantic freezing metal claws that were practically going through my neck. And the fact that I wasn't on the forest floor anymore, I was in a gigantic cave with a bunch of what looked like giant metal panthers around me. Which is not a very good situation for anyone. And, what's more, I couldn't see Viseria. I was panicking, very quietly and not-moving-ly of course, because I did not want her hurt when I was responsible for her safety. She spoke to me, though, which slighltly calmed me down. Then a couple of guards grabbed me roughly and made me come with them.I heard him yell at them, "Let me go! Let me go!" but there was nothing I could do. They had me tied down with... I don't know what it was. And they hurt him, and I couldn't stop it.Here Viseria broke off, looking at the ground. "It's all right, Viseria." Calvin said softly to her. "I'm fine. This arm gets beat up a lot anyways." he added, pulling down the jacket sleeve of his right arm, revealing a bunch of scars. "Always the right arm. Always. I am glad I was born left-handed. Bitten, clawed, glass in arm, sword, knife, splinters, then that... I'm lucky I still
have an arm here. And we managed to get the tracker chip out, too, so those things won't find us again. Oh, the story. Sorry, Helios. Sidetracked. Well... probably the only reason we were able to escape is because my friend showed up then, and freed us." He sighed. "That probably wasn't the best story to try to convince you to come with us, but the fact is, if we had a third person helping none of that probably would have happened." He paused, and pulled up his sleeve. "I just said probably three times! Four! Ha! Sorry, I just had to point that out. But there is more than that, Helios. Other worlds, countless places to explore. There's adventure, loads of it, more that enough even for a dragon like you. As for humor, well, without giving too much away, I think you'd really like it."
Calvin moved himself until he was directly in front of Helios.
"Helios, I am Calvin Sparrow.
Would you like to join me?"(I told you it would be long!
