I thought they jumped off cliff sides facing water and they survive by learning to fly before hitting the water and either dieing on impact or drowning. i know the good you're talking about and it actually lives in various climates from mountains to rocky ocean cliffsides.
I've low key been attacked by a few of them as a kid.

the documentary i saw was about them jumping and hitting the ground it was sad out of 5 of the hatchling only two made it, the other three didnt jump well at all and one hit the ground wrong snaping its neck, the other hit the side of the cliff and the last i cant remeber.
