the universe sighs, reality rippling in the wake of its breath. droplets of dew grace your being as you wander further into the clutches of the cosmos.

the void embraces your soul, the vast nothingness stretching out before you rendering you unbearably befuddled, purpose lost in the depths of nonexistence.

and then, something. something, amidst the nothing. where? everywhere. nowhere. elsewhere. was there really anywhere to be when all that was... was, well nothing?

traveler.

a voice echoes through oblivion, resounding off of the nonexistent walls, puncturing the very foundations of your being.

you do not belong here.

you flinch. your gaze sweeps the surrounding void before settling on the only bit of light, of color, just on the horizon, barely visible.



lavender, pearl, cerulean. you drift towards its radiance, drawn by the strings of your soul, spirit caught on the tip of a silvery hook.

its luminescence shines bright against the nothingness beyond, out of place, out of reach, out of mind.

you pause just before reaching it, glistening, crystalline waters lapping at your nonexistent body. you take in the scene laid out in front of you.

out of a lucid pool rises a series of steps, shrouded by a blanket of fog. atop this pearlescent, winding staircase lies a rift: a rupture in the fabric of reality, an unwinding of its delicate threads. it swirls in tones of violet and magenta, the air around it shimmering as if no more than an illusion.

standing tall before this scene is a guardian of sorts, a many-winged, silver-crowned, ribbon-bound watcher of the void it inhabits.

and watch it does, despite lacking any form of eye. it evidently knew of your approach long before you were aware of its presence, having sensed your mortal soul far from where it belongs.

this eldritch being hovers over the pool of water below, casting no shadow on its luminous depths.

leave. now.

startled, you drift forward and take a tentative step onto the pearly stairs. they bob gently with your non-weight, as if they can sense the burden of your spirit even without its worldly form.

you take another step, and another, and another, until you reach the final stair. a gap looms between you and the whirling of reality. you glide across with the mere thought of forward movement.

you offer a final, parting glance back at the enigmatic, syballine deity now below you, still levitating above the glistening pool, its once quiet waters now shifting with unease.

and then, without a farewell, you depart—gone as abruptly as you arrived, plunged deep into the jowls of unreality.
