personality description// opal is a shy pup. being mostly albino, she never ventured out into the sunlight. she is always in fear of the sun. this doesn't mean she can't make her own friends though! opal will often look out a window, and talk to the birds she sees at the bird feeder. she sets up lots of seeds at night so that she can talk to them throughout the day. (they don't talk back, but she likes to name them and give them personalities) opal also has a collection of small animal friends as well. the mice in the floorboards, the bats and owls in the attic, and the family of raccoons in the garage all take part in taking care of opal. "it takes a village", is a quote that might describe this complex relationship.
however happy and cheerful opal seems, she is also hopeful. she can get extremely sad and isolated due to her albinism restrictions. during these times she is found 'folding' her neck paper into different radial shapes. these can include flowers, hexagons, stars, and "peacock" feathers. once this cheers her up (since she is a rather simple minded animal), she frolics around the house, and a general feeling of peace and happiness overcomes the house residents.
just as a note, opal does not live in a house with humans. the house she believes to be a beautiful mansion, is actually an abandoned house, with the typical boarded windows and rotting walls. opal's increased amount of imagination transforms this place into an oasis, her perfect habitat. the animals living inside the house (her friends) are just the usual wild animals that inhabit abandoned shelters. they are personified to be the sort of 'guardians' of opal, and they hope that opal will never mature and realize the poor living conditions she is in.
