Ikplets are divided into two distinct varieties: Southern and Northern. The easiest way to distinguish between the two is to look at the facial structure and feet. Northern Ikplets have hind paws and short catlike faces, while Southern Ikplets have all hooved feet and long foxlike faces with jagged lips. What's most notable about Ikplets is their thick tails that end in secondary sentient heads. In the tail is a second small, simple heart to aid in blood flow to the second brain, which nearly equals the primary head's in intelligence. Ikplets also wear masks, usually rough and constructed from any hard materials the mob has access to, but domestic Ikplets are made plastic ones. These masks are firmly secured to the Ikplet's face when they reach their full adult size, more extremely secured on the northerns than southerns- to the point it's impossible to remove. Until the full size is reached and after they're weaned, Northern whelps' faces will be covered with a temporary wrap, usually plants or rags depending on the mob's location and access. This is not practiced by the Southern variety. This coverage of the face is due to the fact that unrestrained adult Northerns will fight with their tail, resulting in serious injury if not death. This isn't observed in the Southern variety, so it's speculated the Southerns simply copy the Northerns, implying the two far-between varieties interacted in the past.
Northern Ikplets have long, double-layered, plush fur with an even longer mane that surrounds the tail and covers the underbelly, protecting them in their cold environments. Southern Ikplets have short, bristly fur that feels more like thorns when rubbed the wrong direction, and their manes are coarse.

Varieties can be put together in captivity to produce fertile hybrids, mixing certain features of each, though they are always dominated by one or the other overall. Northern Hybrids have shorter hair and it's not quite as plush as their wild counterparts, but it's still pleasant enough. Southern Hybrids have short, velvety fur that's more like peach fuzz on some parts of their body, and their manes are still coarse, but a bit longer. Occasionally wild Ikplets bear less fear of humans than normal, and these also tend to carry some hybrid blood, suggesting interaction between hybrid and wild Ikplets in their lineage. Such Ikplets have been dubbed by owners as wildbloods, and are considered quite valuable, especially to breeders as they tend to have less irregular fertility than hybrids but are still tameable and trainable.
Hybrids have been readily domesticated, beyond horses but not quite to dogs, and are most often companion animals. Northern hybrids are being considered as service animals for the disabled, their high intelligence and calm demeanor making them easily trainable and for more complex commands than dogs.

Northern

Lifespan: 15-17 in the wild, 20-30 in captivity
Diet: Omnivore, prefers meat, consumes greens and roots in harsh winters. Hunts by biting unaware target: tail's saliva is septic. Target is tracked by the mob/Ikplet until it's weak enough to be killed easily.
Size: Males 2', females 2 1/2', measured at the withers
Whelps: Born with closed ears, eyes, and no teeth, wooly desaturated pelt.
Communication: Vocalizations from the tail are infrequent but sound similar to reptilian hisses, body language is centered around the ears, stature, and tail. When calm the legs are straight, ears in no particular direction, and the tail gently curled to the side or held out behind the Ikplet. When aggressive the legs are bent, the tail sharply curled to be in line with the primary head, and the ears flattened into the fur to protect them. When submissive the Ikplet crouches or lays on the belly and keeps the tail behind them with the ears turned away. When dominant the legs are straight, the tail curled to be in line with the primary head, and the ears forward.

Southern

Lifespan: 15-17 in the wild, 20-30 in captivity
Diet: Carnivore, long range hunter, runs prey to exhaustion and begins eating.
Size: Males 2 1/2', females 3', measured at the withers
Whelps: Born with open eyes and ears and erupted canines, pelt is velvety.
Communication: Vocalizations are common in hunting, and generally sound like high pitched chirps and barks. Vocalizations from the tail are mostly just chirps. Body language is centered around the ears, stature, and tail. When calm the legs are straight, ears in no particular direction, and the tail gently curled to the side or held out behind the Ikplet. When aggressive the legs are bent, the tail sharply curled to be in line with the primary head, and the ears forward. When submissive the Ikplet lays down, flattening themself and their tail. When dominant the legs are straight, the tail curled to be in line with the primary head, and the ears forward.

The strikes/bans list is private, but kept track of nonetheless by Slate. You will receive 3 strikes for breaking the rules, and on the '4th' be banned. If you are banned, all but one of your Ikplets will be put in the pound, all of your items and credits will be put in the bin, and you will not be allowed to post on any Ikplet-related threads.
Strikes and bans may only be given by the owner/co-owner.

Ikplets are normally adopted out through raffle batches. These end at 12 AM EST of the day it ends. So if a batch ends June 16, get your form in by June 15 11:59 PM. Batch Ikplets can be entered for by anyone with 1 entry by default, but you can increase your odds by adding and filling out additional fields, for a maximum of 10 entries (that is, your name will be put into the draw 10 times.) Fields are things such as "History:", "Personality:", and so on. Prettying up your form will add nothing, but you're free to do it if you wish.

Additional fields will only count if they carry importance. Their favorite day of the week and dislike of pickles won't nab you extra entries. Regarding likes and dislikes in general, while they can feature less extremely important information (such as the aforementioned dislike of pickles) there must be at least 5 of each (5 dislikes AND 5 likes) for one extra entry. This can be done twice, once for the body and again for the tail.

Theme songs/music will only count for an entry if you also provide a reason you picked it.

You can enter for one Ikplet per batch. If the batches end on the same day, you will only be able to win one, and won't be rolled for the next. So for example you enter Batch 1 and Batch 2, and win Batch 1 because no one else entered for the same Ikplet as you: you'll be removed form Batch 2's draw. This does not apply to batches that end on different days.

Any of these rules can be modified for special batches. This will be detailed in the batch itself, and only apply to that batch.

[Staff Guidelines]

In mobs, Ikplets outside of the lead pair don't often mate for life, instead mingling with various members of the mob. The pair will stay together until their whelps reach full size, but after that tend to drift apart. Domestic Ikplets work similarly, so offspring are only able to be taken away once they reach full size to avoid stressing the parent.

Breeding is done, by default, by raffling off a few nests- the number will be decided when winners are drawn, but at minimum it's 3. In the event that the same Ikplet wins twice, the Ikplet's owner will have the choice of either picking which one, or breeding their Ikplet twice- at the cost of 4 slots. Should the owner pick one of the two Ikplets, the other now mateless owner will be able to choose from Slate's, Madison's, or the breeders. If all else fails and none of these Ikplets appeal to the owner, they can give up their nest and it will be claimed via FCFS by someone else.
Nest artists do have permission to take requests for breeding outside of the raffle, but don't harass them. They'll generally raffle off nests on their own. Ikplets with identical masks (thus from the same batch) can't be bred together.

If you aren't one of the owners of a nest, you can not adopt from it. Wait until the Ikplets are put into the pound.
If you're entering a breeding raffle, please include any items you'll be buying/using in the same post. It makes it vastly easier to find when winners are drawn.

Nebula

A strange mutation that leaves the base coat heavily mottled, blended, and flecked, with certain colors resulting in a 'spacey' appearance- leading to it's name, and leaving it highly sought after by some.
Nebula has a 5/15 chance of passing onto offspring, 5/7 if both parents have nebula.

Heterochromia

Heterochromia in general refers to a difference in color between the irises. Although simply labelled heterochromia, specifically there's complete heterochromia, partial heterochromia, and sectoral heterochromia.
Heterochromia has no set chance of passing onto offspring, it's fully up to the artist whether they want to include heterochromia.
Ikplets with heterochromia can have one or two colors on their mask.
Heterochromia does not take up a mutation on a custom. So if a ticket allows one mutation, you could have extra eyes and Heterochromia.

Clone

Clones are exact or nearly-exact copies of one of their parents.
Clone is rolled on every whelp in a breeding with a 5/200 chance. If the number lands on 1-5, the whelp will be a clone of one of the parents. Which one is randomly decided.

Vitiligo

Vitiligo is splotches of color loss in an Ikplet's coat, which can either be stagnant or increase with age. Vitiligo can vary between occasional flecks, and something similar to piebald- though with rougher edges. Vitiligo will never fully cover the coat of an Ikplet.
Vitiligo has a 5/30 chance of passing onto offspring, 5/10 if both parents have vitiligo.

Chimera

Chimerism is a unique mutation that occurs when fraternal twins fuse before birth, leading to patches of both siblings' coats. When chimeras are bred, the offspring take from one or the other sibling, not both.
Chimerism is rolled on every breeding with a 5/200 chance. If the number lands on 1-5, there will be a chimera. There will also be one less Ikplet than there normally would be (e.g. a pair is to have 4 offspring, and rolls a 4 on chimerism: the pair will have 3 offspring)

Albino

Albino conceals all colors on the Ikplet, as albinism is the lack of any pigment in the skin, fur, and eyes. The fur will be between white, cream, and reddish, while the eyes are pale blue. The Ikplet still has a normal appearance 'under' the albinism, though, and this will come into play if it is bred, rather than the white itself (unless the Ikplet was white anyway.)
Albinism is rolled on every whelp in a breeding with a 5/1200 chance. If the number lands on 1-5, the whelp will be albino.
Albinism has a 5/70 chance of passing onto offspring, 5/30 if both parents are albinistic.

Melanistic

Melanism, contrary to albinism, leaves the Ikplet solid black. A few faint markings may show, but are largely covered. Melanism also darkens the markings, unlike albinism, which leaves them as they would be.
Melanism is rolled on every whelp in a breeding with a 5/1200 chance. If the number lands on 1-5, the whelp will be melanistic.
Melanism has a 5/70 chance of passing onto offspring, 5/30 if both parents are melanistic.

Erythristic

Erythrism is an unusually large amount of red in the Ikplet's coat, regardless of the parents. Markings show as normal, but are also subject to reddening.
Erythrism is rolled on every whelp in a breeding with a 5/1200 chance. If the number lands on 1-5, the whelp will be erythristic.
Erythrism has a 5/70 chance of passing onto offspring, 5/30 if both parents are erythristic.

Physical

Tufts

Tufts are unusually long patches of fur, most commonly appearing on the front elbows and back ankles, but sometimes on the front ankles, the ends of the ears, or the cheeks. Ankle and elbow tufts are rolled for on any breeding involving a wildblood northern, with a 5/20 chance.
Tufts have a 5/10 chance of passing onto offspring, 5/6 if both parents have tufts.

Extra Eye

A quite rare mutation, Ikplets with third eyes don't often survive in the wild, but do in captivity with special care. Ikplets with extra eyes are often not given masks, but sometimes the location is convenient enough to allow it.
Extra eyes have a 5/100 chance of passing on to offspring, 5/50 if both parents have extra eyes.

Extra Limb

Rarer yet are extra limbs, such as a leg erupting from an Ikplet's flank, and they vary in size from small undeveloped nubs to fully hooved feet. Usually unusable.
Extra limbs have a 5/400 chance of passing onto offspring, 5/70 if both parents have extra limbs.

Extra Head

Oddly, Ikplets do not seem capable of having extras of their main head, as can be seen in other animals. Instead this mutation is expressed only in the tail. Extra heads can range from an underdeveloped snout to a separately aware, fully developed head. This can cause blindness in one of the tail's eyes.
Extra heads have a 5/400 chance of passing onto offspring, 5/80 if both parents have extra heads.

Bobbed

The number of known bobbed Ikplets is in the single digits. Bobbed Ikplets lack a tail head due to a strange anomaly in their genetics. Scarcely accepted by mobs, bobbed Ikplets tend not to survive in the wild.
Bobbed Northern Ikplets require partial or no masks due to the lack of a tail head.
Bobbed has a 5/300 chance of passing onto offspring, 5/30 if both parents are bobbed.

Customs
Customs are personalized Ikplets. You can get a custom by buying a ticket from the shop. The nature and limitations of the custom vary depending on the ticket.
You may only redeem 1 custom per 10 days from the day your last custom was completed.
Remove/replace anything in (parenthesis.)

Make sure you understand the rules of customs. Don't be afraid to ask Slate or Madison if you're confused on anything! Examples of filled custom forms can be found in the FAQ.
Do not put a color for iridescence. It is rainbow, it can not be colored.

Regarding the form: You'll use two in your post. First form 1, then form 2- which version of form 2 depends on your ticket.

Note that these files were made in and for Paint Tool SAI. I can't guarantee how they'll function in other programs.





You must follow these listed rules to use the species linearts. Breaking the rules can result in an immediate 3 strikes, if not a ban.

Turn on the shading.
This isn't actually an offense, but it's less hassle for both sides. If you give a shading-less Ikplet to Slate or Madison you'll be asked to turn it on anyway.

Ikplets are a closed species.
Do not use these linearts to make your own Ikplets, nor claim it is your own species or use it for anything other than Ikplets.

You may use the linearts for making your own custom.
You must have already purchased a custom ticket. You must also still follow the limitations dictated by your ticket. When you finish your custom, PM it along with its filled out form to Slate or Madison.

You may still make your own customs even if customs are closed.
Customs being closed just means that staff won't take custom forms. If you have the necessary ticket, you can still make your custom and PM it with it's form to Slate. You can also have a friend make it if that floats your bagel, just make sure that everything follows the ticket's limitations.

You may convert other people's Ikplets.
Though for this you need permission from the owner, this is also encouraged. You can post in the fanclub asking others to convert your Ikplets.

You may use the linearts to convert your Ikplets to the new lineart yourself.
You're encouraged to. You'll have to pass them through Slate for approval. When doing this, provide the Ikplet's name and/or ID.
When converting Ikplets, one vital part is that you keep the mask as similar as possible to the original. You may notice some markings on the original Ikplet are not present in the new files; while a few have been outright retired, many more have simply been changed or renamed. Notably...

Hair Streaks must be drawn oneself, and are no longer limited to certain areas of the hair. Make sure the streaks follow the direction of the fur. When making hair streaks, you can place them wherever you want, or place them where they used to be. Hair streaks can cover as much or as little as the hair as you want, but the hair should still be visible. Hair streaks shouldn't be blurred too much; it should still be recognizable as a streak, not a.. vague blob.
Accent replaces the underbelly and husky markings. Accent is oriented towards the bottom half of the Ikplet, being able to cover the legs, belly, and jaw. Accent shouldn't have holes in it, and it's edges can be hard or blurred. (third picture: maximum reach)
Leg Stripes can be edited by erasing it from the top to make it lower, thus including the old leg stripes that was only on the ankles. Leg stripes 5/6 have also been renamed to 3/4.
Hyena has been renamed. Hyena 1 = Spotted Hyena, Hyena 2 = Striped Hyena, Hyena 3 = Brown Hyena, Hyena 4 = Aardwolf.
Speckled has been replaced with the mutation Vitiligo. You will have to draw this mutation yourself, but it can be made to look similar to speckled- that is, just many small white dots, or you can make it look like normal vitiligo. Here are some examples of real vitiligo: x x x x

Some Ikplets may have corrupted color data. What this really means is that the Ikplet's image is so muddled that I was unable to sample it's original colors. On these Ikplets, you may make your own colors for it, as long as it looks similar to the original. Make sure that you provide the colors you used for the body, hair, and markings.

SHOP
Along with Ikplets, we provide wares! First you'll need some credits. You can turn in your CS pets for them, and they'll be recorded in the archive. Make sure all trades are sent to Slate, and only Slate. In the trade, let Slate know that it's for credits, else he'll take it as a gift. If your pet is a re-release, include the original year for the appropriate bonus. If you don't, the bonus will be for the year of the pet as it is. Do not lie about your pet's year.
If an item says it's account locked, you can not gift, trade, donate, or otherwise remove the item from your inventory without using it. If you wish to otherwise get rid of a locked item, PM Slate and he'll erase it for you.
If you have unlimited credits, you don't need to purchase anything: assume you already have everything. You can PM Slate to revoke your unlimited credits if you wish, and you'll be defaulted to 3000.

The Bin
Here go returned or donated things. In the event that someone is banned, their items and credits will be left here.
You can only take 1 item (other than pet rocks) or up to 50 per day, but you can donate as much as you like, both items and credits. If you have unlimited credits and wish to donate to the bin, you must send a trade to Slate and convert the necessary pets to pay for it.
