Cap'tn shook himself from his sleep draped state, turning in his stall to look over the divider between his stall and Rudolph's, watching the drowsy stallion, his mane falling over each side in messy parts. The roan simply didn't want to wake him, even though the morning routines of the ranch seemed to be luring him out of that rest themselves, so he helped out. Stretching over the divider as much as he could he nosed the tips of Rudolph's ears, all that he could reach. "Come on it'll be time to go out soon to the paddock with you soon," he snorted moving back to wait for him to rise.
"And what will be done with you? More jumping I presume?" A heavy and lethargic voice replied, a drenching pile of sarcasm onto each word as the chimeric rose to his feet, shaking straw from his coat.
He's presumptions had of course been correct, even in snow the arenas were kept in good condition to allow him to be worked on the jumps. Yesterday had been a single day of rest, which was meant for today, but snow had hit hard over night causing the day to be dedicated to tidying up everything. "Wouldn't mind being in a paddock for this day, it's cold and I'ms till going to work up a sweat," Cap'tn huffed a bit of irritation creeping into his voice.
Now Cap'tn was generally a very relaxed stallion, but he had his times of other emotions and right now it was irritation. Just a few days of rest was all he'd like and it was simply too much to ask. Besides him Rudolph pushed his nose gently against his shoulder. "Oh just throw a fit and take a day off," he mused tugging at the cropped mane of Cap'tn as he stomped his hoof down, wanting to go outside for some fresh air despite the cold and snow.
It brought amusement to the roan's eyes his actions, and Cap'tn thought it over it wasn't like him to throw a fit no matter what it was so it quickly melted from his thoughts. "No I'll put up with it."
With a shrug Rudolph watched as the assigned person to their barn lead horses out to the paddocks, leaving him and Cap'tn the few left. Capt'n was taken by his rider and Rudolph lead to the paddock, a solitary one just outside the barn with several large, luxurious oaks growing from the ground.
So that's how it went for quite a while of that day, Rudolph lounged in his paddock, only once being taken out to pull a cart of loud children which gave him a piercing headache that ended in him trying to bite his handler as he was returned to the paddock after all of it was over and Cap was ran through increasingly challenging jumps. His game was off though, kicking up the rails and forcing them to fall to the snow packed ground and even a stumble that had him on the ground and rider four feet away, his front knees having become scraped up from the hardened layer of ice on the snow. A hand grabbed his reins and began to lead him from the arena, "That's enough for today. It's not going to do us any good if we keep getting your legs knocked all up," the rider spoke patting his neck and releasing him from the equipment and sending him into the oak filled paddock with the chimeric stallion. Giving a small jump in his gait he made his way to Rudolph, bouncing his head as he walked.
"Worked to the bone once again Cap'tn?" Rudolph asked not lifting his head to greet the roan, just continuing to paw at the ground and find little spots of grass to munch on.
"Not too bad, I had an off day though," he admitted following into a calm, somewhat lopsided walk to help Rudolph find some nice spots of the food he was looking for before bowing his head and lapping at the scrapes on his legs, there was a small trickle of blood, but nothing severe enough to requite medical attention. "There have some grass since a blind bat could find grass under snow and ice ten times better than you," he teased.
His ears became pinned to his skull and Rudolph shot the roan an angry glare. "Gee thanks for that boost on confid-" He broke off from what he was saying when he noticed the small scrapes on the other's legs. "What happened Cap'tn are you okay?" He'd become quite a bit more compassionate, only something that could happen around the roan. "
He shook his head, trying to get him to just not worry. "Roo it's nothing, I took a tumble and hit a rough patch, nothing I can't handle," he said softly.
Rudolph only shook his head in reply nudging his face away to look at the scrapes himself. "You're not the one supposed to get hurt around here," he mused lifting his head to look at Cap backing away just slightly. "So you better be fine or I'll make sure you have something to not be okay about," he teased, though it came out as more of a serious threat by mistake.
Cap just returned to lapping at the scrapes for a few more long moments unsure how to react, he adored the chimeric stallion, but sometimes he got spooked by how aggressive or brutish he could sound, even if just by a mere accident. He shook the feeling to the back of his mind, he still had things to work on with the somewhat younger male and just headbutted his shoulder playfully. All of the playful actions he shared with Rudolph often had him being asked if they were dating or even mates which he'd be able to quickly, but heavily answer with a brisk, yet polite no. It had been a heavy decision to not even ask Rudolph about that being a possibility in the future, but he just needed to get closer and let him know he' always be there for him. Still it weighed heavy inside of him as he wondered if it had been long enough. They'd known one another since Cap was a yearling and Rudolph just brand new to the ranch of Paradise Pines.
He kept an eye on Rudolph as he walked around with long drawn steps, scraping snow and ice from the ground and nibbling on whatever he could find for grass which happened every ten attempts before he finally grew tired. "Hey, Roo?" Cap started out hesitantly, raising his head, but glancing a bit away from the other.
He lifted his head and tilted it to the side looking at Cap with a curious expression. "What you want Cap'tn?" He asked shaking his mane out before returning to his tilted head position.
His chest expanded as he took a deep yet shaky breath of crisp cold winter air. It stung his lungs which gave him some motivation to continue on his already started down path. "So we've known each other for a while now and though for a bit of that time I just lead you along and tried to keep my distance we've become some great friends I'd like to believe...I wanted to ask for a while now, but you needed more time to just trust me so to get over all this sappy walk down memory lane, I'd like to ask you. Would you like to be more than friends? Would you be the nightmare to my dream filled world? I've been missing something for such a long time."
It was a hard hit that almost made Rudolph stumble. He had to have something in his ears there was no way he'd heard Cap right. "Are you asking me to be your m-mate?" He asked the words sticking to his tongue as if they could be wrong and Cap didn't mean that at all. "I would be honored," he whispered.
His head bobbed in a yes motion and his emotion filled eyes were illuminated in just pure joy as he tugged at Rudolph's mane tenderly. "Then is it settled I'm your hero and you're my nightmare?" He asked sweetly pushing his nose into his mane and just relaxing.
"The hero and his nightmare. What a couple name we got there."
