[Thunder.]

She's little more than a wolf who loves writing... Or so she thought. When one night she learns of magic and sorcery, her life is shattered into a thousand pieces. Losing her friends and family to a rising evil, she must battle the force. Unknown spells and prophecy about her and her new friend, a guardian wolf, she must trust him with her life... or risk getting caught by darkness.

Red, once a normal wolf, now... A fighter.

[Thunder.]

A female wolf, Red loves writing and art. She is a true thinker, intelligent and brave. She doesn't think it would be necessary until she revives a lost legend.



Severin is Red's brother. Can be somewhat mean, though he has a heart of gold.



A guardian wolf, who is easily angered. Emeraldgaze can be difficult, but is strong and courageous. He is like a warrior, but he doesn't consider fighting the only choice. But when it is, he is merciless.



Silver can be a steadfast friend if others manage to get by his side. He can be openly hostile and merciless in certain situations.



Crystal is a calm, kind wolf who can also be courageous at times of danger. She is fearless, even though many see her as a naive young wolf at first sight.

[Thunder.]

Red sighed and closed her book. She was alone in her room, her new diary book at her paws. She couldn't think of what to write. I've got plenty of diaries. So, I might as well use this for a story. But somehow she felt as if all her ideas were either too boring or too unrealistic. "There goes my dragon story," she muttered.

She stood on all fours and gazed at the window. Her room was on the second floor, giving her a wonderful view. She could see the street, trees and sky. Instead of trying to write, she disgustedly threw her book on her bed and lay down. Red took a book on her shelf, titled 'Guardian Wolves' and opened it. She liked the story. It was about magic, wolves and legend. Guardian wolves were different from canines like Red. They were fighters, well-muscled and guard their companions with their lives. Their companions were normal wolves. They were linked together because of a strange reason. Young guardians were given to normal wolves. Those wolves were called the Battle Pack. They learn magic and spells, and do good deeds. They fight an enemy, though. The Darkness were a team of wolves who often robbed and...

"Ugh," Red said. The story was getting into her head.

Humming, she opened the book. After reading about ten chapters, she looked at the clock and saw that thirty minutes had passed. She got up, stretching. Her head was spinning with stories. Then she shook her head, and got up. Walking over to her laptop on the desk, she decided to e-mail her friends. Hmph. She felt a little bored, because she always had to wait for her laptop to work. It usually lagged for a moment before functioning properly.

She then opened up her account. Singing in a merry tune, she surfed the net quietly, checking all the sites she went on regularly, such as forums, pet sites, and more.

[Thunder.]

When she was done with checking sites, she chose to chat with her brother Severin, who was away on vacation. They often went in different ways because they liked to argue. But, of course, whenever he was away Red felt hollow and lonely. So she typed, Hey, Sev. What's up?

Not much. Why, did you find a magical guardian wolf and fly into heaven? came the reply. Annoyed, Red replied with Enough sarcasm. She could already hear Severin's mocking tone. And again, when Severin answered with Yeah, sure, whatever. That made her sigh. Severin always did tease her about her books. Sometimes he'd peek into a page and come up with lots of ways to annoy Red.

Hm. Red logged out as soon as the message was sent. She still felt bored, so she ran down her stairs, her paws warming as they rubbed against the handrails. She cooled them down with a huff. Her mother was at her office, and her father was probably in the family room, watching TV. She called, "Dad, I'm going out!" before slamming the door closed. She ran over to the porch. She liked to watch the view there. Sometimes she would meet her neighbors, but the street was empty. The sun was already creating dying rays of light. The first few stars glinted in the sky. At first she was taken aback at what time it was. She must have spent at least an hour in her room.

For a few minutes she just stood watching the sunset, and then turned to the back garden. A fence separated the garden and the sidewalk, so Red just climbed over it, not bothering to clean her dusty paws after using them to swing herself to the other side. She would get them dirty anyway. She shivered. It was a cold day and would get colder once it was night.

[Thunder.]

Red left the back garden with the basket of apples. There was one in her paw. She washed it and left the others in the fridge. The one she carried was brought outside. Red murmured the words, "Come on, you know you want it..."

Then a young rabbit hopped out of the bushes near the front porch. They often came here because there was a forest behind Red's house. She ran a paw along its soft, velvety ear. The rabbit did not shy away. Red stroked its back, then under its chin. While it ate, Red tore off a leaf from a nearby tree. She offered it to the rabbit. It considered the matter, then took a tentative bite. It devoured the leaf quickly, its small brownish black nose stained green. Then Red stretched out a paw. She hummed in a friendly way, and the rabbit let her touch its fur. It was white, with gray and brown. Red gazed at its blue eyes in wonder.

But, after it was done with the apple, it disappeared into the bushes again. That was when Red heard snarling and the squeal of the rabbit. She burst out of the bush.

There, watching as the rabbit ran away, was a wolf standing on all fours.

[Thunder.]

The wolf stared at Red with unblinking leaf-green eyes. He stood on his back legs, his gaze unmoving. Red felt her hind paws rooted to the ground as well. She could only look. The wolf's fur was unruffled and smooth. The pattern of an eagle's wing ran down his shoulder, and his paws were black as night. Red tried to speak, but she couldn't, somehow.

Then he spoke. "Who are you and why are you here?" His voice was gruff, but velvety. "I-I...I'm Red," was all she could blurt out.

"Red," said the wolf. "It suits you." He cleared his throat. "I am Emeraldgaze, Guardian Wolf of Kiltar."

"Guardian?" echoed Red. "I've heard of you in books. Do you really fight The Darkness, and are you a part of the Battle Pack?" she asked, amazed. "No," Emeraldgaze said. "Those rumors were wrong."

"Then what is your... world like?"

"It is a place of mystery, even for those who have lived there for years. Strange creatures, such as gryphons and dragons, roam the lands of my place. Kiltar is its name. It means 'Light' and we battle the Draukliu, or the Savage. They are a pack of wolves, strong as a guardian, with... friends of wolves like you. They are the ones to fear. They are merciless and won't lift a claw to help others but themselves. Emperor Soulvadur is their leader. He is a wolf like you, with blood red eyes and the strength of a dragon. Kiltar's leader is Guardian."

"Then... who is your friend?" Red questioned.

"I believe that is you."

[Thunder.]

"Me? But..." Red trailed off. "But I don't know even half of your world, what it means to be a Guardian's companion, or even how! What can I give to help you battle the Draukliu, when I can't even string a bow! How can I, Emeraldgaze?" she protested desperately. In truth she was a little afraid, of this new world that was threatening to crash, crashing into her life.

Emeraldgaze only smiled, showing sharp teeth. "You will learn. I've been looking for my own companion for a long time... And here you are."

"How do you know who your companion is?"

Emeraldgaze's stare became serious. "That is unknown, even to the Guardians. They have... a sense of things, to know who is their true Friend of the Wolves."

So... there's something special about me, something I don't know of yet. A mystery unsolved... A mystic world of wonder and magic. But where to the Guardians roam? I've never heard of them as real. So she asked the question out loud.

The Guardian wolf chuckled. "Well, like I said, it's a completely different world. We live in the land of Distias, a land where Guardians live. The Draukliu live elsewhere, though."

"Then how do I get there?" queried Red again. "Surely it's impossible? One creature going from one world to another?" But Emeraldgaze said, "No, you can. It only takes words of magic and sorcery." Then Emeraldgaze fixed his eyes on his paws and uttered, "Libr ara ekuria," and the world shook under Red's paws.

What's happening? Can't feel my paws... thought Red helplessly.

[Thunder.]

Red struggled to keep her eyes open. A strange force of tiredness hung over her head, pushing her down. Her paws ached. Her tail felt flattened. She shook her head weakly, trying to get fur out of her eyes. She felt a strong wind, buffeting her fur and causing her to crouch lower. The strength of the raging storm was almost unbearable. Red could sense Emeraldgaze beside her, though she could see nothing more than a blur of black and gray. The painful ordeal stretched on for what felt like hours, or maybe it was no longer than a split second. But the wind didn't lift. Red felt even more wretched with pain. But then Emeraldgaze's voice sounded above the howling wind.

"Do not fight it."

How can I bear it? But Red gave in. She closed her eyes. Then silence came. It was long, and peaceful. Calming. A breeze lifted her fur, then she opened her eyes again. Then she blinked.

The sky was a dark blue, with patterns of green and purple. Red gazed up at it, eyes wide with wonder. The swirls and patterns slowly faded, and Red felt fur brush her side. She dropped onto four paws, and saw Emeraldgaze beckoning with his tail. He mouthed, "Follow me."

Red obeyed silently. She was in a snowy, icy forest, tree branches heavy with dew and frozen leaves. Every time she brushed one she got dunked with water. She clutched her scarf. She was lucky to have it. Shivering, she could barely feel her numb paws by the time Emeraldgaze said, "Stop. You've traveled far enough."

Red sighed with relief as she walked into a small hut. Emeraldgaze followed, then lit a fire outside. They were in a clearing, surrounded by trees. Stars glowed far above, shining with a light so bright that the snow below was tinted with silver. Red let out her breath, and sank into the mossy ground. It wasn't very comfortable, so she forced herself to walk into the hut. A rug, a few pillows and blankets filled the floor. Red huffed and closed her eyes.

[Thunder.]
