It's called Bloody Mary.
She lived deep in the forest in a tiny cottage and sold herbal remedies for a living. Folks living in the town nearby called her Bloody Mary, and said she was a witch. None dared cross the old crone for fear that their cows would go dry, their food-stores rot away before winter, their children take sick of fever, or any number of terrible things that an angry witch could do to her neighbors.
Then the little girls in the village began to disappear, one by one. No one could find out where they had gone. Grief-stricken families searched the woods, the local buildings, and all the houses and barns, but there was no sign of the missing girls. A few brave souls even went to Bloody Mary's home in the woods to see if the witch had taken the girls, but she denied any knowledge of the disappearances. Still, it was noted that her haggard appearance had changed. She looked younger, more attractive. The neighbors were suspicious, but they could find no proof that the witch had taken their young ones.
Then came the night when the daughter of the miller rose from her bed and walked outside, following an enchanted sound no one else could hear. The miller's wife had a toothache and was sitting up in the kitchen treating the tooth with an herbal remedy when her daughter left the house. She screamed for her husband and followed the girl out of the door. The miller came running in his nightshirt. Together, they tried to restrain the girl, but she kept breaking away from them and heading out of town.
The desperate cries of the miller and his wife woke the neighbors. They came to assist the frantic couple. Suddenly, a sharp-eyed farmer gave a shout and pointed towards a strange light at the edge of the woods. A few townsmen followed him out into the field and saw Bloody Mary standing beside a large oak tree, holding a magic wand that was pointed towards the miller's house. She was glowing with an unearthly light as she set her evil spell upon the miller's daughter.
The townsmen grabbed their guns and their pitchforks and ran toward the witch. When she heard the commotion, Bloody Mary broke off her spell and fled back into the woods. The far-sighted farmer had loaded his gun with silver bullets in case the witch ever came after his daughter. Now he took aim and shot at her. The bullet hit Bloody Mary in the hip and she fell to the ground. The angry townsmen leapt upon her and carried her back into the field, where they built a huge bonfire and burned her at the stake.
When she was dead, the villagers went to the house in the wood and found the unmarked graves of the little girls the evil witch had murdered. She had used their blood to make her young again. But, just before she had burned to death, Bloody Mary screamed a curse at the villagers. If anyone mentioned her name aloud before a mirror, she would send her spirit to revenge herself upon them for her terrible death.
Our Bleeding Shadow wrote:Needs a Name! The night air was thick and the silence heavy, two teenagers cuddled together under the fall moon of the night air. Ash pulled Vi in closer the cold air seemed to hang around them.
A woman sat on the bench across the street watching the two of them. The pier was quiet, just him, Vi and the old woman.
She wore a black dress and a black veil. She seemed to watch them, Vi gripped Ash's hand sending tingles up his spine like tiny electric shocks.
"I'm sorry the stadium was closed." She giggled and Ash smiled, he rubbed her arm in attempt to warm her.
"I'm sorry we had to spend our first date out in the cold." Ash chuckled. As the clock struck midnight the two teens stood and cuddled, the first snow drop falling upon the ground.
"That woman is still watching." Vi muttered and Ash smirked, the stars twinkled as the snow fell like wishes all around them.
"Let's give her something to goggle at." Ash whispered and Vi smiled, their lips locked a perfect moment to begin a new day.
"LEAVE THIS PLACE!" The old woman screeched, the two teens broke apart the old woman was stood pointing at them her long spindily fingers out stretched pointing at them with a burning hatred.
"Why?" Vi called out.
The old woman's hand never but her reply shook them, "IF YOU DON'T, YOU WILL JOIN THE DEAD!"
Vi trembled her hands slipped round Ash's waist.
"Do you think she means it?" She asked a shiver running down her spine. Ash smiled and shook his head.
"I doubt she even knows what she is saying." Ash chuckled.
The air shifted and the old woman was next to them; the veil covering her face.
"I WARNED YOU! YOU TEENS ARE ALL THE SAME! YOU IGNORE THE LOGICAL PENSIONER!" Her voice carried on the wind and echoed in their ears. Vi was wrenched from Ash's arms, he cried in shock as she was flung to the floor.
"Ouch!" She exclaimed climbing to her feet, instantly the woman was there prodding her with a blade and drawing the blood.
Ash leapt into action knocking her away.
"Leave her!" He warned.
"YOUR PARENTS DON'T APPROVE, WHAT MAKES YOU THINK YOU HAVE ANY CONTROL OVER ME?" The old woman roared and the two teens hugged. Flinching from the undescribable rage the woman showed, what had they done?
"We came here to be alone, not to be stabbed by some woman." Vi sobbed, Ash tried to comfort her, Vi's crimson blood slowly dripping upon the wooden pier.
"YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO BE TOGETHER! APPRECIATE THE LAWS OF YOUR FAMILIES!" The woman yelled. Vi shook her head and Ash joined in.
"No, not when we love eachother so..." Ash muttered and Vi slipped her hand within his again.
"GET UP!" The woman roared and the two of them obediantly climbed to their feet. The blade stabbed Violet first and Ash's cry was choked and sounded as if it came from a strangled cat. She fell back her blonde hair flowing her blue eyes wide with fright. Ash caught her just as the blade pierced his own chest.
The two teens tumbled into the water. Linked hands, they cuddled as they struggled for breath. To ease the flow of crimson pouring from their wounds. As dawn broke through the night sky they locked lips, to enjoy one last enternal kiss.
