Here to report that the layers are in fact doing strange things!
It is doing the same thing you described where the layers are weirdly connected but turning on and off visibility eventually fixes it?

yes exactly! like it’ll eventually look fine but you have to turn the layers off and on a few times, I’m not sure why it’s like this
