Alone at the park;
Now Tiger had left us, for real this time. Resident and I were actually alone now, no sign of the mystery that had vanished as quickly as it had come, either. It had been like a fine mist in that way. I glanced to Resident, patting his neck, then looked about the park a moment. I surely wasn’t going back into that forest...I knew Tiger was in there, somewhere, but I’d probably get lost or make a wrong turn before ever seeing him. Therefore, I had no intention of going back there. I glanced at the trees, but didn’t really feel like sitting by them. I saw plants, thinking of picking them, but decided against that. I wasn’t going home straight away either, though.

I hummed as I glanced to Resident once more, head tilted, then nodded my head at myself. Humming to myself a bit, I whistled and motioned the stallion, walking towards the wishing well, or at least that’s what I assumed it to be. I looked down into it awhile, staring into it’s water, but then felt myself growing bored. Shrugging, I mounted Resident, allowing him to take me away home.

Alone at the park;

I walked on for quite some time - long enough for me to wonder if I had perhaps taken a wrong turn somewhere - all the while casting glances over my shoulder. That mysterious Grelifcent was still out there; I could FEEL it even if I couldn't SEE it. And I didn't like it...

Had I intruded upon its territory? Did it want the mushrooms in my pack? Had it been the one who'd stolen my poor cheese sandwich, and did it now want more...?

Soft footfalls on the path behind me interrupted my scattered thoughts and inspired me to pick up the pace yet again. Whatever the reason for my being stalked, I was none too keen to meet up with this Grelifcent! Indeed, I was almost running flat-out now, despite the darkness and uneven ground. I wasn't too worried about tripping. Nope. I was FAR MORE worried about being wrecked by a mad, un-dead, horse-like creature with an unknown capacity for dark magics. I'm pretty darn-near indestructible under normal circumstances, but there ARE a few things that worry me!

Thankfully, as I rounded a bend in the path, the footsteps behind me began to fade away. At first I kept right on moving. But after twenty yards or so I finally began to slow down. After thirty, I stumbled to a stop. The malignant influence seemed to have gone. All around me the night-sounds of the forest continued on as if nothing had happened, and the thick mist that had been trying to strangle my sanity had thinned to the point of being nonexistent.

I was alone.

Thus, doing my best not to feel like Ichabod Crane after his close encounter with the Horseman, I took a deep breath to steady my nerves and forced myself to resume walking at a normal speed. From that point onward, nothing eventful happened... if you choose to ignore my nearly jumping out of my skin when a toad hopped onto the path in front of me, anyway. I got back to my bike just fine, and, none too eager to linger longer than I had to, started home.

    alone at the park;
    when i emerged from the fog, the stallion was nowhere to be found. right
    along with whatever else was in there. right before my eyes, it lifted. lea
    ving the bare earth, and myself with many questions. i stalked around a bit
    longer, remaining in the park area, debating whether or not it'd be best for
    me to just venture home. though some part of me believed, if i was to retu
    rn, the forest wouldn't be here. perhaps a forest, but not this one. not the
    one you only hear about in fairytale stories as a kid. so i decided to go back
    in, and find a flower. small in size with a variety of orange, red, and yellow
    for colors. i picked it from the patch it grew in and held onto it carefully, e
    nsuring i wouldn't smush it before i actually made it home, which was quite
    a long way as i had made the mistake of traveling by foot. bidding it a final
    farewell, with the flower in hand, i made my way home. deciding i'd keep it
    a secret, the memories too sacred. i also feared if it still stood, someone w
    ould come and destroy it. sell it for billions of dollars as property. & i wasn't
    going to allow that to happen.
