The return to the park from the Twisted Forest; After returning to the well where I'd lunched, I hung around a couple minutes more - poking into every crevice, every leaf-pile, every bush - in an ultimately futile attempt to find the slightest clue that could lead to the whereabouts of my poor cheese sandwich. The stallion certainly hadn't eaten it! We'd been together the entire evening! Plus, I was fairly sure that Grelifcents didn't NEED physical food, as we understood it...
With a final sigh I straightened up. In the same motion, I put both hands on my hips and bent slightly backward in an effort to un-kink my poor back. When this did nothing, I returned to plumb and began twisting from side to side in a 'windmilling' manner. This motion, at last, produced a series of satisfying pops, and I felt the tension leave my body.
Clearly, I was doing nothing but killing time.
By now dark had well and truly fallen, and the chill air of the forest was full of insect noises. Hurriedly, I gathered my remaining belongings, stashed them in my pack, and tried not to think about the wolf-howl I'd heard only moments ago. This done, I started down the path that would take me out of the park and back down to where I'd left my bike.
I got no more than three steps on my way.
Suddenly, from the corner of my eye, I spied a shadow. Whirling about for the second time that evening, I was just in time to spy a flash of bright pink before the Grel - for I truly believed it to be a Grel - vanished back into the gathering mist. I quickened my steps. Where the stallion had made me feel calm, this mysterious beast fostered a definite sense of unease in the pit of my stomach.
