- CURRENT PERSONALITY
reserved; nikita is incredibly cynical, always questioning the motives of others. a learned trait, it often leads them to talking in circles or hiding truth under heavy layers of sarcasm, half truths, and a mask of intimidating facial expressions. because these often get others interested and forcing more interaction (exactly what they were attempting to circumvent), they've taken to staying quieter in groups of people. in smaller settings, they've mastered directing conversations and become much less foreboding and dark. however, they do try to avoid questions about their past and often revert to the imposing silence reserved for group settings when pestered about the past.
logical; nikita is always focused on problem solving to the point where everything appears as a problem to them. getting groceries, talking to people, finding a living situation-if it exists as something nikita needs to do, it's a problem. hence, they almost always have an intense focus about them as they calculate everything. when forced to explain their motives, they used to say 'it's only logical'. it wasn't until recently that they stopped saying that in the understood languages of whomever they're speaking too (example, they'll say it in russian while speaking to an american who doesn't speak russian). they don't want to be quoting this "spock" character-what even is star trek? their aversion to something whimsical only adds to their automatic, robotic manner.
socially inept; due to their odd mannerisms and recent transition from a completely different culture, nikita is incredibly awkward at the moment. they're often fumbling for words ('how do you say... da vilka? the fork, yes, the fork'), messing up phrasing ('there is not i think noodles much?'), and otherwise making a fool of themselves despite the intelligent surface they desperately want to present. they've almost always been ostracized from those their own age, and so by now it's a sort of quiet sadness that they just live with. it's not that they're not trying-they really are-it's just not working out for them. they often ask inappropriate questions, unaware that they're committing a social blunder. nobody's really brave enough to explain it to them though-they just have an intimidating, overbearing air to them.
stubborn; despite their language obstacles, nikita is still persistently sticking with trying to communicate effectively and make friends. it's not working too well so far, but their incredible willpower is helping out with the rest of their life. they've managed to get both a job and a place to live, and found a place where they can pick up a better learning of english than they had previously. this willpower also extends to when they want something, or are arguing with somebody. despite the language barricade, nikita hates to lose and will often have the conversation in both of their languages until the person stops arguing. while already a blunt person in general, they get even more blunt and straightfowards when arguing or asking questions.
clever; nikita is always thinking up unique ways to go about something. adapt and overcome was something they lived by in the past and still continue today. they've used their brain for escaping trouble in the past, and now hope to turn it to 'better of use'. this often leads to slapdash homemade inventions wrought from the miracle of ductape and whatever else was on hand-and it usually easily fills the purpose it was made for. this manifests in various pieces of paper with elegant russian cursive floating around. when read, the papers whisper secrets from the past and escape plans from the future. having so many escape plans and scenarios written out helps to calm the paranoia that often grips nikita.

- EARLY BACKSTORY
childhood; nikita spent their early childhood in an orphanage, in the middle of novosibirsk (one of russia's largest cities). they didn't mind it at all-there was no freezing to death on the streets, less starving, and they were relatively well cared for. they spent most of their time purposefully apart from the other children, as they were rather in denial of the fact that they were an orphan. to this day, they still insist that their parents had simply gone missing instead of being jailed for lack of fine paying. by now, they've all but forgotten most of their childhood, so it really doesn't matter to them. their only regret is that they weren't adopted by an american family like some of the others. perhaps they could have escaped what was yet to come. while they didn't have much of an education at this point, they did learn very basic fundamentals.
teenaged years; kita was adopted in his teenaged years. however, the couple wasn't what they appeared. back when this was happening, background checks in russia weren't the greatest around. so, nikita was picked up by two heads of an organized criminal group that dabbled in basically everything that the other groups tried to monopolize. as a teen, nikita was ecstatic over the fact that he had been adopted in the first place. the couple kept nikita in the dark at first, but slowly started introducing him to their life. having formed what he thought was an emotional bond with them, nikita gladly went along with it, beginning to see this as a normal thing. before he knew it, he was rapidly approaching his adult years with a lot of street smarts and very limited book smarts outside of reading and writing in russian, and basic arithmetic.

- LATER BACKSTORY
the wakeup call; nikita's wakeup call happened slowly, over a period of time. such resolute belief that their career was completely justified wasn't something that could happen overnight. the first seeds of doubt were planted when the legislature actually started trying to crack down on organized crimes. those who were caught almost always went to jail... if they were still alive for that. nikita started seeing the impact their actions had on families-it left children in the orphanage, the way nikita had been left in the orphanage many years ago. other small events happened-somebody in america mentioning their dislike of organized crime in a speech or an article. the stone of nikita's devotion started crumbling. the final straw came when nikita found themselves in a hospital, fading in and out of consciousness and fighting for their life instead of fighting for their boss's success. when you're stuck in a hospital with no visitors outside of the nurse, you gain more and more time to think. and that's exactly what happened to nikita. the freedom to think lead to hours of doubt, doubt, doubt; that terrible doubt that had been lurking in their mind over the years now grew and encompassed all of their thoughts, until they couldn't take it anymore. that was their breaking point. they had to get out.
the escape; as soon as they could walk, nikita left the confines of the hospital without checking out. they went straight home, got a whole disguise going, packed what they could (including rather large sums of money), and then started to leave. it was time to vanish first, it was a journey by small means of transport to another country. they went into kakhastan, back into russia, then into the ukraine, before making it into hungary. from there, nikita managed to arrange transportation to america. once there, they stayed at a homeless shelter and sought out a room mate. the journey had been arduous, spanning over 6 months at the very least. nikita wasn't sure-everything had become a blur as they hid from those they sought to escape.

- GETTING SETTLED
finding a room mate; nikita managed to find a roommate through an advertisement. 'looking for a roommate who likes lizards, routine, and math. nikita didn't have much above a basic understanding of math and therefore couldn't really hate math, they were okay with routine, and lizards could probably be avoided easily. so he applied, slowly managing to fill out the form and send it in. about a week later, nikita was informed that they had been chosen to be a roommate/companion and could now move in.
moving in; elliot seemed appalled that the entirety of nikita's life currently fit into one single suitcase. he promptly decided that no, nikita didn't actually have to pay rent-at least until nikita was on their feet again and could handle it. in the meanwhile, their rent would be 'learning math and english'-the math taught by elliot (a math teacher) and the english (reading, writing, and speech) taught through a program for adults trying to learn better english. nikita found that elliot held a certain fascination for russian cursive, and would sometimes just write nonsense for elliot to admire.
getting up; as nikita settled in and started interacting with elliot on a regular basis, their personality began to shift. less defensive and more open to interaction, they began to attempt to interact with others (as elliot encouraged it). they're still stubborn when it comes to winning arguments and such, although they've started allowing elliot to win some. overall, they're starting to become a much friendlier person in general thanks to their interactions with elliot.
relationship; after a couple of years of living with elliot, nikita spilled it all in one sitting-they sat down with elliot and told him everything from their past. it all made sense to elliot (why his roommate was so tense, had set up surveillance, and seemed to be flighty in general) and he started trying to help nikita stop living so tensely. he's the only one capable of calming nikita down from a fit of paranoia (especially the large ones), so nikita doesn't plan on moving out until they can find somebody else who can work the same wonders that elliot can.

▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂
- MOVING ON
plans for the future; nikita isn't quite sure about settling in with a family. they don't feel as though they'll be emotionally ready for a steady relationship any time soon, let alone a family with kids. this is partially due to what they remember of their childhood-what if they suddenly vanished on their kids for any circumstances and left them with the same emotional burden they had to bear? nikita just isn't ready to handle all of the emotional duress-they're too scared. jobwise, nikita's considering working as an informant for some sort of criminal-catching organization. they see it as a sort of repentance-their way of working towards forgiving themselves for the crimes they had committed.
schooling; nikita wants to go to college as soon as they've got enough english under their belt to do so. it would just be a community college so that they could afford it, and say that they have a degree in something. nikita will major in criminal studies of some sort, having extensive know-how about the field much to their own distaste. it may be "cheating" to have more life experience in the field than the other students, but nikita doesn't care at this point-anything they can get they can and will take. if it can help them repent for their past, they'll do it.
moral code; nikita's haunted with guilt from the past, and currently hold themselves to a strict moral code. insults don't fall from their mouth intentionally, and they ask about anything being given to them, trying to make sure they aren't doing anything wrong by accepting it. when not arguing with somebody, they're often polite and apologize almost too often for their english ('my english, please pardon it, it is not zhe best'). others try to reassure them when they've transgressed the boundaries they set for themselves (they often find themselves feeling guilty that they've hurt somebody that isn't a criminal), but this often leaves them distraught and withdrawn for the rest of the day.
▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂

▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂
- anthro; nikita is about 5'9", an average height for guys they're alright with this height, as it's generally a bit above the height of others and they can see over crowds. nikita used to paint their face with white paint (as seen to the left), and often went out in public as such. now that they live in america, they only partake in this during that odd holiday of "halloween". because of their background, they have well defined muscles that aren't too overwhelming. their hair is spikey and unruly-it often resumes its natural state immediately after being brushed. they tend to dress in loser clothing (often wearing plaid shirts), a habit formed from having to smuggle items and weaponry in the past. at night, they sleep much better in cooler environments and have dressed accordingly; simple boxers work (and they always have a set of clothes laid out to quickly get into should something emerge in the night).
anthro items/style; nikita always carries a messenger bag on them. countless things could be in there, from weapons (nik hasn't outgrown the compulsive weapon-collecting yet, although it's legal this time), to food, to money, to maybe something they're couriering for somebody. there's usually a concealed weapon somewhere on their body, although they make sure to leave hints that its there. they will immediately surrender their weapons if approached by a police officer. nikita actually has a singular piercing in their right ear, and wears a set of dogtags. one is their old identity from when they were still in russia (they only feel safe wearing it because it's in russian). they keep this as a sort of reminder of the conditions they left, and the crimes they rejected. the other is their current identity (in english), to remind them that they're made again, and moving forwards with a better life. some other things they may occasionally don include body armor (on their paranoid days, when they think people from their past are catching up), heavy boots (military boots, almost always), and sometimes a tie (.... sometimes nikita wants to look "fancy", but they have a really odd taste in tie length). to add to their generally quirky appearance, they also wear no less than four watches on their left arm. one is set to their current time zone in 12 hour time, one is set to their current time zone in military time, and then they have the same for russia.
quad; in a quad form, nikita tends to keep their tail either curled up (think like a husky) or tucked between their legs depending on the situation. their worst enemy is humidity-because of their thick, long fur, humid conditions tend to make their life miserable. just imagine a brightly colored angoran rabbit, and you've got the equivalent of nikita in the humidity. when it gets to be too much, they'll shave the fur off of their entire body and just appear... naked until it starts growing back in.
▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂

▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂

▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂
- habits; nikita has some odd habits garnered from their time in russia. a lot of them are paranoia-induced, such as their tendency towards walking widely around corners. it's too easy to run into somebody if you cut the corner sharp, and therefore too easy to walk straight into a knife. their living quarters are generally very neat and tidy, and a suitcase sits in the corner, packed with money and other necessities in case of emergencies. if they're feeling cornered or trapped, their hand will often float towards whatever weapon they have, and they can be seem rubbing at the skin around the weapon, as if massaging it or pushing it back from the weapon. another nervous tick includes biting on their lips or the insides of their cheeks (the cheeks are chewed more often and have calluses of a sort built up).
hobbies; during their free time, nikita has picked up scuba diving. it was always too cold for this in russia, and so the idea of being under the water for extended periods of time always fascinated them. they may also try odd arts and crafts, from playing with little pom pom balls to knitting. paranoia-induced habits include patrolling elliot's house, doing surveillance, and trying to build a bunker somewhere on the grounds of the property.
fears; nikita has an almost constant fear that they're going to be found by somebody from their past. this caused a lot of their uptight appearance and odd habits, as they're afraid of leaking information that could get them caught or anything like that. nikita is also (oddly) intimidated by butterflies-the erratic flight patterns coupled with the bright colors just always seemed sinister to nik.
flaws; nikita has a tendency to try and question anybody suspicious. this has left a grandmother in tears, as she was "just trying to sell some cookies" (her persistence lead nikita to believe she was trying to poison them). nik's questioning is usually grueling and piercing, as they often questioned people back in russia. after they've decided that the trigger wasn't a threat, they often quickly shift their demeanor, and become incredibly apologetic. sometimes they'll burst out with a stream of 'sorry's and just run for it, angry at themselves for jumping to the wrong conclusion and then subjecting the person to questioning.
strengths; despite their fears, nikita is actually quite adept at keeping secrets. if you tell them a story, it's not falling from their lips until you give them permission to do so. most don't get the opportunity to place their trust in nik though, as nik doesn't trust people enough to believe that they trust him. one would think that this strength would lessen nikita's paranoia, but it really doesn't. nikita is also quite adept at recognizing large patterns that aren't easily seen. in the future, this will be turned to helping track down criminals both of petty crimes and major crimes.
coping mechanisms; whenever nikita gets too anxious and elliot isn't available, they often turn to music. sometimes it's just listening to a nice russian ballet, sometimes it's trying to write a song (but always giving up, no matter how pretty the song). recently, they've discovered nate ruess and his songs, and often can be found listening to a single one of his songs on repeat. their favorite playlist includes his grand romantic album, the soundtrack from their favorite ballet, and various other songs that are calming and relaxing. sometimes, when they're relaxed enough they can be found doing a form of freestyle dance. the song they turn to the most often is 'AhHa' [nate ruess], as they identify strongly with the lyrics.

- STORY TIME
the flight; the limp permeating the step of the plumerian was psychosomatic by now-it was an old wound, months old. but that doesn't matter. they said mind over matter, and in this case the mind lied to the matter and the rest of the world. the plumie had a harried and hunted look to them-bags under their eyes, hair long and unkempt, edgy fidgeting as they stood in line. an outsider would decide that maybe a family member is dying, or they're falling on hard times. this wasn't the case. they were a convict of the light, one escaped from the crime and running to the purity.
nikita finally made it onto the plane. numb. they felt drained, exhausted, dead to the world and dead to their soul. it couldn't be healthy to live like this, fleeing the way they were. there wasn't even money enough for food anymore. the only thing that kept them going was the fact that they hadn't felt doubt strong enough to turn them back. it couldn't be healthy to live like this, going off of the lack of negative instead of the presence of positives. a single suitcase was clutched to their chest, holding what little they retained. sleep was truly for the weak-they could barely sleep even on the flights. this was the last flight-a transatlantic flight to take them to their final destination.
'the food, there is some free?' their garbled sentences were getting in the way again. the flight attendant gave him a condescending look. apparently, there was not free food. so nikita simply sank into their seat, wishing they had a window seat so that at least they were safe from one side. unless there was a fighter jet. kita's pulse instantly quickened. there could be a fighter jet sent after to shoot them down in the ocean to never be found. and it would be nikita's fault if everybody on board died. nikita's fault. everybody dead. the bullets wouldn't even have to take everybody out, they could be aimed directly at nik and take out the entirety of the row as it plunged lethally through the airplane. the thoughts spiraled more negatively to the point where nikita was clearly panicked to everybody around. the squishy grandmother in the seat right by nik looked concerned and then expressed this concern by asking if nikita was alright.
they weren't alright.
how could anybody be alright, even this close to freedom?

- FUTURE DEVELOPMENT
shy; different from the aggressive reserved demeanor of before, nikita is more shy than anything else. they're afraid of offending people to the point where they can't ask for things, making it clear that they've taken their "code of conduct" too far. elliot's now trying to convince them that not everything coming out of their mouth is offensive or socially awkward, working them towards a happy medium. in the meantime, they're starting to gain a better understanding of social constructs and such, and have began to adjust accordingly. the embarrassing blunders are gone for the most part, but they're not yet recovered from the fear of making them.
observant; nikita's learned to identify cues and prompts in social situations, and how to react accordingly. this helps with their new job-working to catch criminals in a local police department. if closely watched themselves, everything falls into an automated pattern that they adapted to try to help with their paranoia (if they didn't change their schedule, they couldn't arouse interest, right?). however, their heightened awareness of empathy and other's feelings and mannerisms has done nothing to help with the almost constant fear of being watched.
witty; with freedom came... humor. nikita's surprisingly humorous, despite how bland their voice usually sounds. the funniest one-liners are delivered in the flat tone of somebody announcing something dark, so you have to listen carefully to their words to catch anything. some of the humor plays off of their own faults-jokes about their accent, or issues with word finding, or (only with friends) their fears. they've even accepted that they were quoting spock before they knew he existed, and are now more comfortable using the phrase "it's only logical".
efficient; when nikita does things, it's shifted from the blunt and straightforwards mannerisms from their life of crime, to more fluid and efficient methods. this applies to everything from speaking to people, pattern finding at work, and just simple daily life. they exude a sort of quiet, focused energy instead of the harsh goal seeking of before. they're still straightforwards and such, but now it's much more laid back.
retained traits; despite the changes, nikita still has an aversion to group settings. they still cling to their logical and clever brain in a more educated way. while still stubborn, they've learned to give up some fights and no longer insist on winning them all. they've still got bits and pieces of social screwups, but doesn't everybody?
