What are Cryssom Terrexes? wrote:Cryssom Terrexes (shortened: Cryssos) are small, alien-like marsupials that are very closely related to the Possum hailing from the planet Taliposa. They have lots of fur covering their bodies, keeping them warm during the harsh winters on their planet. Cryssom Terrexes have four crystals floating above their scaled tails, sometimes more. These crystals are basically their life and energy source; the more crystals broken, the weaker the Cryssom Terrex gets until, when all crystals are broken, they die. Cryssom Terrexes draw their power from their crystals, but release the energy through special sacs on their cheeks. These creatures have a vast array of personalities; like humans, all are different from one another. However, all are usually willing to follow a person if they deem them a compatible and worthy owner. Do you have what it takes to own a Cryssom Terrex?
Hey, folks! Welcome to our first event in the Crysso Community: the Design Our Mascot Competition!
Here's how this works:
First, you'll need to read the main thread. Now I know all that looks daunting, but it'll help make sense of things, so I highly encourage you read it. I'll know if you haven't. Also, be sure to mark it!
Secondly, you must choose a power for this Crysso to possess; the powers you can choose from are basically everything BUT Destruction. Destruction is saved for very rare/legendary Cryssos. Remember; you can only choose ONE power!
Then comes the fun part: designing! By using your own lineart, you will then draw and design one Crysso. You may only have up to two very rare traits. These traits include line edits and abilities, so at the most, you can only have two very rare line edits, two very rare abilities (of the original power you chose), or one of each. Common uncommon, and rare line edits/abilities are unlimited. Please specify in the picture you make that your design is NOT an official Crysso!
As far as colors go, here are the things you need to know (that are NOT on the main page):
The eyes, power sacs (dark circles on their cheeks), and crystals are always variants of the same color. So say you chose to make the eyes blue. The power sacs and crystals must be some shade of blue; and yes, they CAN be gradients.
The insides of the ears and the tail are USUALLY the same color, but it's not terribly rare to find one with different colors on these.
There are NO color guidelines for Cryssom Terrexes. This means they can be any color at all! Though I strongly advise you stay away from bright, neon designs, as these usually clash and will dock points. Darker colors are also a touchy topic, because sometimes my computer messes up and I won't be able to see the design that well. Somewhere in the middle - such as pastels and natural designs - would work best for this contest.
Q&A
What if I can't make my own lineart for (insert reason here)?
In this case, I can provide you with a premade lineart. Just specify which digital design programs you CAN use, and I'll make a lineart that corresponds to that design program.
Will you be accepting traditional works?
Of course! Any and all medias will be accepted. Just be sure to color in your work nice and neatly, and if possible, add a digital color reference. You can do this by opening up MS Paint and selecting the colors that have been used via the Edit Colors tool.
What kind of designs are you looking for?
This will be the design that will be colored in on the main thread and used as the mascot of the species. I'd like it if the design were simple enough to color, but not so simple that it's boring. Therefore, I'm looking for a moderately-complex, yet simple design that anyone would be able to draw and color, if they choose to do fan art.
Is there anything you don't want?
I certainly do not want five minute designs! I'd like to see you guys put effort into your work; therefore, if it looks like you just slapped something together in MS Paint, your design will be judged more harshly. I also do not want stolen designs; I WILL check to make sure the design is original. If it's not, you will be given a warning and you will be disqualified from this contest.
How will you be judging this contest?
This contest will be judged using a special rubric I have created. The main focus points are: Overall Design; Effort; Neatness; Design Complexity; and Creativity. While quality art is nice, it will not be a deciding factor in this contest, and will not give you any bonus points.
Prizes
Of course, we can't forget about prizes! Here are the rewards for our winners. (Yes. WINNERS.)
First Place:
Your design will be chosen as the mascot of the species! You will also receive a guest artist slot (which may turn into a permanent artist position if you've put in enough effort), as well as a rare MYO slot and an uncommon MYO slot, both of which may be redeemed whenever. With the rare MYO slot, your Crysso can have as many rare (and below) traits as you please, while the uncommon MYO slot may have as many uncommon traits as you'd like!
Second Place:
You will be able to keep your design, but any and all rare+ traits will be removed. (So basically, your design will only be of an uncommon rarity.) You will receive a guest artist slot, as well as a MYO slot, which may be redeemed whenever. The MYO slot includes two rare traits and unlimited common/uncommon traits.
Three Runner Ups:
You will each be given a guest artist slot, as well as an uncommon MYO slot, which may be redeemed whenever. The MYO slot includes as many uncommon and common traits as you please.

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask via PM! The end date for this contest is currently set to September 5th, which gives you three weeks to come up with a design for this contest.
