General Breeding Rules
1. Lutras must have been mates for 1 month before they are allowed to breed. This does not apply if you own both Lutras.
2. Lutras may breed 5 times each.
3. You must wait 1 month in between each breeding. *The month starts at the time your litter is posted not at the time of your breeding request.
4. For now, you may own up to 3 pups; artists and staff may own up to 5. This number may raise in future.
5. 2 months after a pup has been posted, it will age to the adult lines.
6. Number of pups and whether any mutations will be passed on will be determined by rolling dice. If both parents have the same mutation, the pups will all have it.
7. You may choose the gender of the pup/s or allow the artist to roll dice to decide if you don’t care/want a surprise.
8. Same Sex couples cannot breed like Opposite Sex couples, HOWEVER they MAY adopt orphan pups. If you have a Same Sex couple, they can put in a request to adopt ONE pup that is guaranteed to be theirs. The Nursery Artist you make the request from can design it however they wish and the mutations and design of the parents will not be taken into account. After that, the couple may try to adopt other pre-made orphan pups that Nursery Artists will post on occasion, but these pups will be open to any Lutra to adopt (there will be a contest to decide who gets it). All Orphan pups will be assumed old enough that they are weaned and don't need their mother's milk anymore.
Nursery Artist Rules
1. You must post your own thread to manage your breedings. You may come up with your own form that requesters need to fill out, with whatever information you require from them. Include whether you accept Same Sex couple adoptions or not.
2. You should have litters done within 2 weeks of accepting a ticket or the requester can take the ticket to another artist. If you do not think you can do this then keep your slots closed until you have the time. If you repeatedly fail to fulfill breeding requests that you accept you may be removed as a Nursery Artist.
3. Make sure you double check each ticket to make sure the parents haven’t bred in the last month and that they have breedings left available (each Lutra can only breed 5 times!) and that the ticket is valid rather than blindly accepting anything that comes your way.
4. After 2 months have passed you should age any pups you have made. It just makes sense for the original artist to do the aging, so be aware that this is part of your job.
5. Once a month, you may create an Orphan pup and hold an adoption contest for it. Orphans will ALWAYS be single pups, NO TWINS. You must follow the same rules for adoptions as normal artists so make sure you look over those rules in the main thread. You can adopt them out as you see fit; you can require that two adult Lutras will act as the parents for the orphan and have them 'apply' for it, or allow single Lutras to adopt, or simply allow individuals in the community to adopt them without any assigned parents, it's completely up to you. Orphan pups may not be Thunderborn or Tempestborn, or have hair or any unique mutations. You must follow the 'for every Lutra with mutations you must make one with no mutations' rule; so if you make an Orphan with mutations this month, next month you must make one with no mutations. Orphan pups will be get their own numbers separate from normal Adopts; you should title them OTL ## (for Orphan Tutela Lutra #whatever). This means you should probably check in on the Archives to see what number we're on whenever you plan to make one.
6. Roll the dice HERE and follow the dice rules for number of pups and mutations passed on. If I become aware that you are likely not following the rules (you’re making way too many twins to be reasonable and/or passing on rare and very rare mutations too much) you may be removed as a Nursery Artist.
7. Unless both parents have the same mutations, you must roll for every mutation Gene Group to see what mutations are passed on. If you roll for twins, you must roll separately for each pup. Dice Roll Guide:
Roll for Number of Pups: 1-5 = 1 pup; 6 = 2 pups
Roll for Mutation (if rarities are different): 1-4 = no/more common mutation; 5-6 = less common mutation
Roll for Mutation (if rarities are the same): odd = father’s mutation; even = mother’s mutation
Roll for Gender (if the requester chooses the surprise gender option): odd = male; even = female
EXAMPLE: A ticket is put in for a breeding of MOTHER (has small ears, forked horns, tufted tail, and mane) and FATHER (has long ears, shark tailfin, and dorsal fins). You roll and get a 6 for number of pups, meaning twins. Roll for the Ear Gene Group. Small Ears are more common than Long Ears. Roll twice, one for each pup. You roll a 3 and a 5. One pup will have Small Ears, the other will have Long Ears. Roll for the Horns Gene Group. Father has no horns while Mother has forked horns. You roll twice, once for each pup, and get 1 and 4. Neither pup will have horns. Roll for the Tail Gene Group. Mother has a tufted tail (more common) while Father has a shark tailfin (less common). You roll once for each pup and get 2 and 3. Both pups will get a Tufted Tail. Roll for the Spine Gene Group. Mother has a mane and Father has dorsal fins. These are the same rarity so there is a 50/50 chance the pups will have either. You roll a 4 and a 5, meaning one pup gets a mane and the other gets dorsal fins (even for the mother's genes and odd for the father's). So in the end the pups will look like this:
Pup 1: Small Ears, Tufted Tail, Mane.
Pup 2: Long Ears, Tufted Tail, Dorsal Fins.
