Dark.
#7192

Name:
Age: 9
Breed: Mustang
Color: Sooty Buckskin
Gender: Mare
Markings: Star, snip, 2 stockings, 2 socks
Height: 14.2 hands
Special/Fear/Vice: This tricky mare is very clever and figures out bolts with relative ease. She escaped from a roundup pen and would need extra ties to make sure that she doesn't escape.
Notes: She doesn't do much when she escapes, mostly grazes, but she may let out other horses.
Genetics: E/e, A/A, Cr/cr, Sty/sty

    My claiming post!

She is absolutely gorgeous. *dem dapples* I'm gonna have so much fun training her! I was hoping for a cheeky mustang - so a wannabe Houdini is fantastic ^^.

Her name shall be Dalla and her showname shall be Dallas Cowgirl.

Day One - The Arrival

    Day One - "The Arrival"

    Image
    Image
A clapped out red pickup turned off the road down onto a rough dirt track. Towed behind it was something that resembled an old cattle trailer; only two thin strips either side allowing light into the container. The truck bumped roughly over the potholes, it's round-bellied driver making no attempt to steer around them. The trailer followed suit, each pothole sending the contents into a frenzy of stamps and snorts. The driver remained oblivious, singing along with to the radio with his own...unique...rendition of AC/DC's Highway to Hell. In the trailer the mustang snorted, working herself up into a sweaty lather. They had been travelling on the highway for a few hours, and she was tired and thirsty. Every time the wheels dropped into the potholes, the mare lost her balance slightly - scrabbling to regain her stance.

The dogs began to bark as the truck pulled into the yard. Nick jolted awake, blinking as he pushed the brim of his hat away from his eyes with his index finger. The rancher was sprawled out in a wooden armchair on the porch; half polished headstall draped over his knee. "When did I fall asleep...?" Shrugging Nick frowned and stood up slowly. His grin eyes flickered onto the less-then-roadworthy looking vehicle parked in his yard. Tossing the headstall over the chair, Nick grinned and began to walk over to the truck. The door cracked and a stout man emerged, dressed in grease-stained jeans and a grey check shirt. "Uncle Pete." Nick walked forward, clasping the man in a brief hug.

'Uncle' Pete wasn't actually Nick's uncle - but Nick considered him one. Pete had offered to pick up the mustang for them, seen as though Nick and Jessie had only touched down in America yesterday. They had been in England less than 24 hours ago. The mustang was going to be Jessie's project of course - this would be her first time entering Cottonwood Horse Ranch's annual Mustang Makeover tournament. All the application had been ready and submitted for Pete to pick up their assigned mustang.

"She's a beauty, y'know Nicky. Proper stunner. Buckskin. Dappled. Jessie's gonna love her." Pete said, gesturing to the trailer. Nick nodded, "I'm sure she will." A colossal ruckus of stamping came from the trailer, aswell as a loud, hollow whinny. Nick frowned, "I hope you drove steady Pete. You know Jess doesn't like your driving at the best of times - especially if it means the horse's get stressed." Pete rubbed the toe of his boot sheepishly in the sand and said nothing. Nick rolled his eyes and turned, "Back the trailer up to the roundpen. I'll go find Jess." Pete nodded and Nick walked across the yard towards the barn.

Walking through the cool, empty barn, Nick slipped out the other side, walking down towards the grassy pastures. The horses were down in the "Green" feild, the nearest pasture to the forest. The shadow of the trees offered some cool standing and the mountains rose dramatically in the distance. Nick's eyes scanned the feild, before coming to rest on the small herd of horses. In the centre stood Jess. King and Hustle grazed nearby as she stroked her beloved mustang mare Nyx. The horses had been pleased to see them. Both Nick Valentine and Jessie Yates were co-owners of two equine establishments; a ranch here in America and a stud farm in the North East of England. They lived bi-monthly between the two locations and were rarely both in the same place at the same time. This summer was going to be the exception. Nick cupped his hands to his mouth and took a breath before yelling, "She's here Jessie - we're unloading her now!"
