This is my first journal entry for my school project, in my science class everyone whom was failing or needed a bit of extra credit was told this; "If you can study a species you'd never seen before, and document it correctly, turn in your research and you will get extra credit." I figured if anything I deserved some sort of extra grade.So, as a result, I started looking; E-Bay, Tumblr, etc. Eventually I had come across a site for these guys Mask Merits. I scrolled through the first few options and this guy caught my eye. After a while i'd decided that I would study this specimen. Now i'm here taking great interest in this species. Apparently there's a contest going on for him. I took little interest in such but more so focused on his appearance for my first day here. So I drew a picture of him, a rough sketch nothing too special.

Today's the day I study his behavior, he's not as bad as his appearance lets on to be, just a moment ago one of the Merits seemed to be limping, and he'd gone over to them for reassurance. I believe by the behaviors of the others he is looked at as an alpha, though I'm not surprised due to his dominance! The male can seem rather over confident at times, and too prideful but, he takes charge when it is needed. If you ask me he could learn to control his temper at certain times, maybe there's some certain subject that bothers him? I'm thinking about entering this contest for him, especially if my interest keeps heightening for him. The species itself has interested me, and I've already gained interest for another Merit as well, a smaller shy male that the Plague-like Merit seems to hang around. I may come up with names for the two of them by tomorrow.

Tamu Hofu That's what I've decided to name him, it means 'Sweet Terror' in Swahili, I studied the language in my freshman year, I could write it much better than I could speak it though. I've decided today only to visit him, unfortunately I think I may have went a bit too far. Me and him where basically face to face only between a set of bars, I had reached in curiosity taking over me, as I thought of what his leathery mask may feel like. Then it hit me, the Merit shrieked and bat one of it's giant paws at me, scratching me down the middle of my wrist. I think I may wait a couple of days before revisiting, but I really just want to get to know him. That's why i'm making a copy of my study sheets and posting them in the contest, no matter if I win or loose, I just don't want to see him go so soon. At least I have a chance, I should probably patch this up before it gets infected, I shall return on the fourth..

97 is an outcast. He never talks to
anybody. he is always by himself,
and hardly shows himself. When he
does speak, his voice is hoarse
and raspy. Because he hardly around
anybody else, his whole personality is
unknown. 97 is also known for being
plague towards others, always taunting
and mocking them with pranks, jokes
and tricks he preforms on the new
moon. 97 is most often active on
the new moon, always being a
creature of shadows and darkness,
not light and good.

He never harms people, unless
they harm him first.

Bad Traits:
He hates anything bright, so
he attacks it to put it out
before it burns him.

Likes:
97 loves the Dark. He never
goes out during the day and
is the most active on a new
moon or when a lunar eclipse

playing dark pranks on people
and harassing them, just like
a plague he is known for.

97 exhaled an airy chuckle as he watched a group of teens ambling around
the forest he lives in. The moon gone. Allowing him to be out and be a plague to the people that wonder into
his forest. The teens laugh and slur. The smell of beer rather strong. 97 chuckles as he follows the teens. He
snaps a twig under a tiny paw, watching the group jerk and shout out, as if trying to act brave. It amuses him.
It really does. In a dark and twisted away. He rustles some branches. The group now getting worried. Their
voices higher pitched as fear fills them. 97 is giddy now. He cackles softly, his voice hoarse and raspy. They
group is in fear as they scream and shout for whoever is out in the forest to come out. Yet 97 knows nobody
will come out and act like it was a prank. These humans are amusing. The drunks ever more so. He laughs
again, voice a bit louder. The group is shaking, whispering to each other as they all twist around. 97 goes
closer on silent paws to the one kid in the back of the group. He brushes against the teen. He jumps, screaming
out as the group turns to see who touched the teen, yet 97 is out of sight before they could react. He chuckles
again, voice now child like. The group screams, pushing and shoving each other in their hast to get out, most
tripping and falling thanks to the drink that courses through their blood. 97 goes silent, watching the group
retreat back to tow. He follows after. Ready to be a plague to the town.

97 is a small creature with odd habit of being a trickster. The mask is something ,I too, find odd. I wonder what
is under that mask of old leather. I hardly, if ever, see the tiny creature that plagues our tiny town. I always wonder
what he wants. I know him as a male because of that low raspy voice. He has spoken quite a few times, yet only
to scare others away. Today, I saw a group of teenagers run back into town after stumbling into the forest. I was
outside, enjoying the cool night. I was frightened. 97 is back. that is what everybody calls him. 97. Others call him
a spawn of the devil because of his cruel jokes and personality. I named him after my cat, who was just the same
way, but couldn't speak. My parents also found it a fitting name, and soon the town started calling him that. I would
stay awake most nights, just to make sure he doesn't haunt me. I think he is a ghost of a sort. Always drifting to
and from, and hardly seen unless he wants to be seen. I only saw him clearly once and that was when I saw him
crouched over the body of a mouse. To me, he looked about the size of a five month old kitten. He seemed so
frail and weak, yet I knew better. This is the monster that has been haunting the town for as long as I can remember.
He scares everybody.....even the mayor. We have tried to block him out, yet he always finds a way in. I'm awake
now, just waiting for him to plague. The mask is so fitting to this creature that is most active during the new
moon, which is tonight. I don't want that monster here anymore. I have tried everything in power to keep him.
A few days ago, I woke up with claw marks down my back. I was frightened. I went to the doctor. It was him. 97
had only scratched those he really hates, mostly the wood cutters and people damaging the forest. To me, he is
a devil protecting souls he wants to eat. Those trees are the souls he keeps. Everybody finds him a plague. Yet
everything about him is so fitting for his actions. Sometimes, I had frightening thoughts of touching him. To pet
him because he reminds me so much of my deceased cat, 97. Maybe he will come around and stop being a plague,
but I doubt that. He will always be a plague, just like his mask symbols.
