These creatures are lovingly known as Mask Merits! Each one is unique! Merits will often find a human to befriend, though avoiding large crowds of people is a must. Albeit somewhat solitary they have been seen traveling in packs with similarly colored masks. Merits seem to randomly show up on earth, stealthily finding a mask to wear. They choose a mask based on their fur color and personal preference (Merits love matching colors). Acquiring a mask causes a mysterious event to occur, which includes bands growing out from under the fur as well as a odd tail expanding out; all of which seem to be made of the same material as one's mask. Once this event happens a mask can never be taken off again.

Mask merits to not eat.

Merits generally speak English, but can learn new languages rather quickly.
Voices very, but always have a metallic tang.

Merits can be any gender or sexuality. Genders make no physical difference, and such are mainly for pronouns. They do not have to mate for life, and cannot have children.

A merit dies when it's mask breaks; so theoretically one could live forever. Some merits pick a sturdier mask because of this. A merit with say, a glass mask, might die before an iron clad one, as well as a clumsier merit may have a shorter life span then a sure footed one.

Merits can be anywhere from the size of a wolf to the size of a cow.

Due to having thick fur, Merits can be found all over the world wherever it is cold.

Marking, I'm probably waiting for some creepier mask merits; I'm not really into cute ones. Animalistic ones might be nice. Some of my suggestions would include Balinese masks.
