Ratlet Number: 1
Why do you want to adopt?
I would love to adopt this cute little fellow because he is absolutely adorable! I have been looking for the perfect little ratty to finish off my three rat adoption limit, and I think this guy is perfect. Rae has been needing a buddy, since he has been surrounded by girls, and sometimes they drive him crazy, so this guy is great for him.
Rat Name:
I call the name Anubis XD. I think this name suits him because he is a mummy, and he is all Egyptian and stuff.
Personality: (Likes, dislikes, how they react to people, other rats, etc.)
Anubis likes to boss others around. He is used to getting what he wants (from a previous life, perhaps?) and hates it when others say no. Anubis gets along with Rae fine, because of Rae's easygoing nature, but not so much with Miranda. Miranda and Anubis are always trying to boss each other around, and neither really likes to back down. Miranda is used to being the leader of my little ratty gang, but when Anubis comes along, things really start to change. Most of the time they can't stand each other, but eventually Anubis and Miranda will learn to get along. Under all of his gold accessories and strips of cloth, Anubis is caring and lovable. He just can be too proud to show this side of him very often.
Quirks: (Little things like "Enjoys sleeping on her back", "Loves hoarding candy wrappers", etc.)
Anubis loves to stick his head high in the air and just his chin out when he walks. He truly acts like a pharaoh sometimes. Also, once he found that amulet (mentions in story), then he never let it out of his line of sight again. It must be really important to him…
What do you plan on doing with your rat? (Roleplay, Make art of, Hoard art of, etc.) Make art of, love, ferffle (of course!), and display the ferffle in my siggy next to Rae
If you feel you can no longer care for your Rat, will you return it here to find a new home?
You would know my answer by now XD. I will return him if I really feel like I can't care for him, but this won't happen. I'm positive.
Story:
Way back, at the dawn of time, before the time of the dinosaurs, the rats ruled. They had the earth to themselves. They had a pharaoh, and the humans later discovered this wonderful way of ruling and stole it from the rats. Each pharaoh ruled with wisdom and peace, until the dark times came. Famine, plague, and war spread throughout the land. Humans were created. The young rat pharaoh Anubis was overcome with all these horrors. He perished from the diseases that the humans spread. The world thought he was gone, wiped from the face of the earth. Until now…
Miranda and Rae clutched to their mistress’s hair as they sat on her shoulders, surveying the airport around them. Nola peeked out of her front pocket. They had just gotten off the airplane, and were spending the summer in Egypt. Miranda was thrilled, because she loved to explore new places and see new things. Rae didn’t care where he was, as long as he had food in his stomach, and new where his family was. Nola was mortified of new places, because she really didn’t like change. But as long as Miranda and Rae were at most a foot away, then she would be ok (more or less). Their mistress started walking towards the car rental. She got a car, got in, and started driving towards the hotel they were staying at. Miranda hopped onto the front windshield and stared outside in awe. There was sand everywhere, and it was like nothing Miranda had ever seen before. Nola climbed to the back seat and curled up. Rae sat next to her.
When they pulled into the parking lot, Miranda was the first one out of the car. She ran around, looking at everything there was to see in awe. It was actually similar to a hotel you might see in the United States. She was a little bit surprised. Miranda ran back to join her friends. They all walked into the hotel, checked in, and went to their room. Their mistress set up a traveling cage for them to sleep in. Unfortunately, Rupert had stayed home, and their mistress’s mother was watching him.
The next day, they ate breakfast in the hotel. They got a couple waffles and muffins to munch on, and then off to see the pyramids they went. Miranda saved a piece of muffin for later. Upon arrival at the pyramids, everyone bundled out of the car, anxious to see the world famous slabs of rocks. They gazed. They gawked. And Miranda leapt off her mistress’s shoulder and raced towards the pyramids with glee.
“No, Miranda! Come back!” Their mistress called after her in a distressed tone. Rae launched himself after Miranda, and Nola was quick to follow. Their mistress watched them disappear into the pyramids, where tourists were not allowed to go. She hoped they didn’t set off any traps. With a sigh, she headed around, looking around and waiting for her precious ratlets to return.
When Miranda made it into the pyramid, she turned around and waited for Nola and Rae to catch up. She looked around in awe. The pyramid looked even more mysterious inside than it did on the outside. It smelled damp, and cobwebs clung to the walls of rock. A drop of water fell from the ceiling and hit Miranda in the center of the forehead. She shivered. Finally, Rae and Nola ran in, panting.
“Why did you run away like that?” Rae demanded when he was a couple feet away from Miranda. She shrugged.
“I wanted a vip tour of the inside of a pyramid, but humans aren’t allowed in here. So I figured if I went by myself, I could see all this place has to offer.” Miranda replied. “And besides, you didn’t have to follow me. If you don’t want to be here, then by all means leave.” She added. Rae nodded grudgingly while Nola’s eyes flitted around the pyramid, watching all the different the shadows and entrances fearfully. Mirada started walking forward.
“Wait, how do we know how to get out once we’re done exploring?” Rae asked. Miranda looked back at him, a strange twinkle in her eye.
“We’ll figure it out when we need to.”
About an hour later, the trio was hopelessly lost.
“Ok, so now we definitely need to. Now what, Miranda?!?” Rae asked her, thoroughly annoyed, a slightly scared that they would be trapped in a pyramid the rest of their lives.
“I don’t know.” Miranda answered simply.
“Great. I don’t really want to be a shriveled up skeleton for the rest of eternity, so get us out!” Nola shrieked, starting to freak out as claustrophobia caught up with her. Miranda jerked her head to her left. She could have sworn that she had seen something move. As Nola babbled on, Miranda slapped her tail across Nola’s mouth. Nola looked at her, shocked. She stopped immediately.
“Be quite” Miranda mouthed silently. She turned her head to face the shadow again. There was a glint of red. Red eyes. Miranda bared her teeth at the shadow. She moved towards the creature slowly. Then she leapt at it, claws outstretched. A surprise grunt came from the creature as she landed on it. The creature rolled, knocking her off. She turned, and kicked him square in the chest. The creature was pushed back into the dim light. Nola and Rae gasped, surprised. It was a rat. And it looked like a mummy. It raised its head. Nola shrieked, and shied away. Miranda peered at him in wonder.
"What are you doing in my home?" the rat asked. His voice had gritty quality like someone who hadn't spoken for years. Rae stepped forward.
"We are lost" he glared at Miranda for a split second "and we are looking for a way out of this place." Rae answered. The rat looked at the thoughtfully.
"Would you mind if I came with you?" The rat asked.
"Sure, if you want to." Miranda replied. "Oh and by the way, I'm Miranda, the line apple rat is Rae, and the rat cowering behind him is Nola." She added.
"I'm Anubis." The rat said with obvious dignity and pride.
"One problem. We're lost. So do you know the way out or what?" Miranda asked. She hated being told what to do, where to go ect.
"Ok, let's go then." Anubis said, taking the lead. He waltzed down the corridor and picked one of the many entery ways to proceed. Miranda caught up with Hume and tried walking in front of him. "Miranda, where are you going? We're turning left." Anubis stated from somewhere behind Miranda. Grumbling, Miranda turned around and walked back in the direction she had heard Anubis. She walked sullenly behind Nola. Rae slowed down and walked next to her.
"Miranda, what's wrong? It's ok to make a mistake once in awhile." Rae told her. Miranda kept walking, a moody look on her face. Rae peered into her eyes. "Ahhh, I get it. You hate bing told what to do." Rae said a couple minutes later, an amused twinkle lighting up in his eyes. Mirbada narrowed her eyes, but again said nothing. Rae picked up his pace, and started walking alongside Anubis.
"What's her problem?" Anubis asked, nodding in Miranda's direction. Rae shrugged.
"She really doesn't like being told what to do." He answered, glancing back at her. Anubis nodded. Then Miranda let out a yelp. She had stepped on a circular engraving in the stone, and it had pressed down. The triangular runs glowed an eerie blue. Greenish smoke hissed from cracks in the stones around them.
"Run!" Anubis yelled. The group of rats took a quick gasp of air, and then raced away as if the devil where chasing them down the corridor. Suddenly, the floor wasn't under Anubis's feet anymore. The others tried to stop when they saw the stone floor fall away, but momentum and the smooth, slippery floor got the better of them, they were dragged them after Anubis into the pit of darkness. They landed hard on a dusty surface a while later with a quiet "oof" on too of each other in a tangle of limbs and tails. Miranda was the first one to pick herself up.
"Everyone ok?" Miranda asked, realizing she had blood dripping down one forepaw. Not a soul stirred. Miranda dropped to all four paws to investigate her friends, and winced when jolts of pain shot through her paw. Miranda poked around, and untangled Rae from Anubis and Nola.
"What happened" Nola groaned faintly when Miranda moved her.
"I'm not sure." Miranda replied. Soon after, Rae woke up as well, and then Anubis joined the world again. There were no major injuries, but Miranda had her hurt paw and a couple bruises, Anubis had a couple scrapes and was bruised as well, Nola had scrapes, cuts, bruises, her jaw looked a little swollen, and Rae had a slightly bent claw.
"Now what?" Miranda asked.
"Let's poke around and see where we can go. There has to be some way to get out of this mess." Anubis replied. Miranda snorted.
"It's a trap inside of a pyramid. Of course they're going to have an exist designated for all those who enter without permission. Oh, and we can't forget the neon lights, now can we?" She said ironically. Anubis narrowed his eyes at her.
"I'm just trying to get us out of here." He replied tartly. Nola sighed.
"Just focus, you two, will you?" She asked quietly. Miranda started limping towards where they thought the wall might be, and Anubis headed off in the other direction.
"Uh guys, we need to stay together, remember?" Rae called as he watched Miranda and Anubis. Miranda looked at Rae over her shoulder.
"Then stay with me." She replied. Rae shook his head and planted his feet in the dirt defiantly.
"No, we should all stay together." Rae said, a little louder this time. Miranda snorted.
"Who needs an annoying ball of decaying strips of cloth? Besides, he's the one who got us in this mess. I doubt he really knows his way around the pyramid." Miranda hissed. Anubis whipped around and glared at her.
"I didn't run around poking my tail in all the possible traps. I'm not stupid, despite your various beliefs." He spat.
"Anubis, please be sensible. Come with us, and follow Miranda. She doesn't really mean all that she is saying." Nola pleaded. Anubis's eyes flicked between the three rats. Miranda glared back. He sighed.
"All right, but only for the sake of you two." Anubis finally replied, looking first at Nola, and then at Rae. Miranda marched forward into the darkness. She yelped when she ran face first into a wall. Why hadn't her whisker felt anything? Anubis snickered.
"You won’t get out of the pyramid that way." He taunted. Miranda turned to face him, and in the proffers, accidentally smacked her tail across his face. Anubis load his ears back, and tackled Miranda. She rolled to her stomach, and kicked out with her back legs, catching Anubis in the stomach. He roared, and scratched Miranda across the back.
"ENOUGH!" Rae bellowed. "Stop fighting this instant! I am sick and tired of you guys disagreeing about everything, and fighting all the time. We can't let this happen, or we'll all die. You two have to work together, and get along. NOW!" Rae scolded. Nola peered from behind Rae with a scared look in her eyes. Miranda gave Anubis a dirty look.
“Fiiiiiinnne” Miranda groaned with a sigh. Anubis glared at Miranda, but gave a slight nod. Rae turned around, and walked forward carefully. When he got to the wall, he walked along it, looking for any breaks or cracks. Eventually, he walked a full circle and was back where he had started. The others watched him with dismay.
“What do we do now?” Nola asked. Miranda walked the diameter of the hole they were in, spiraling around a little closer every time she finished a circle.
“What are you doing, Miranda?” Anubis asked as he got out of her way.
“I’m looking for breaks in the floor.” She answered simply. “If they made a trap, then there’s probably a way to get out of it.” She continued walking, and then felt a small bump in the floor. Miranda tried to dig it out, but the earth was packed around it tightly, and only a little bit of dust fell off. The other rats crowded around her, and soon there was dirt flying everywhere. Miranda felt something cold, smooth, and hard with her paw pad. “Stop!” She ordered. The other rats immediately ceased digging. Miranda breathed in, and then blew on the ground to clear it of the dirt. A shiny blue crystal pocked out of the ground. It was identical to the ones that Anubis wore. Miranda carefully dug around the edges of the polished gem, and uncovered the rest of an amulet. It was made of gold, with various Egyptian hieroglyphs swirling around the blue jewel. The amulet was attached to a plain brown string. Anubis leapt up, and snatched the amulet away from the ground, and Miranda. A smile played across his lips as he read the all the strange symbols. “Hey, give that back! I found it, not you.” Miranda fumed. Anubis frowned at her.
“But it belongs to me.” He replied, and then looked surprised he had said that, and a little embarrassed, too. Miranda looked down at him, crossing her front paws.
“You haven’t even ever seen it before. I just dug it up. It looks like it has been here for centuries. So how can it be yours?” Miranda said angrily.
“I don’t know… But I recognize it. I am positive that it belongs to me.” Anubis told her after some thought. He slipped the pendant around his neck. It fit perfectly, and looked like it had been there the whole time. A surprised look crossed Anubis’s face, then one of pure hatred.
“Anubis, what’s wrong?” Miranda asked him. Anubis just looked confused now.
“I-I don’t know.” he said, frowning as if he were trying to remember something. “Sometimes, I have these flashbacks, as if from the distant past… I don’t think I’m from around here. I just appeared here one day, and sometimes I remember… only to have my memories slip away.” Anubis looked sad, as if watching the memories run from him with smiling faces, taunting him that he couldn’t catch them. Miranda looked at him thoughtfully.
“Maybe you’re from the time before.” Miranda said casually. “You know, the great rat pharaoh Anubis, who was the pharaoh during the dark times. He was surrounded by war, plague, famine, and the humans who had just emerged from the Waters of Sjukii. You could be him.” Miranda said slowly. Anubis looked at her.
“But how would I get here?” He asked.
“Maybe you were prepared for the afterlife, but instead of making it to the After-realm, your spirit came back to your body. You had unfinished business.” Miranda answered with a shrug. Rae looked at Anubis with newfound awe.
“Do you want to go back?” Nola asked quietly. Everyone turned and looked at her. “I mean, to the afterlife.” She said in a rush. “Because I would miss you an awful lot.” She added quickly. Anubis looked at the rats around him.
“No.” He replied. “I would miss you guys too much. Besides, there’s a whole world for me to see out there. If we get out of here, that is. It’s too early to go looking for the After-realm.” Miranda, Nola, and Rae all smiled at him.
“Now, let’s get back to the task at hand.” Miranda commanded. “I think that Anubis’s amulet is some sort of a key out of this place. Now we just have to find the keyhole.” Rae nodded.
“That sounds about right.” He answered. Nola walked to the center of the pit, where a dim beam of light hit the center. She started digging. Miranda joined her. Together, they uncovered a gold inlay in the floor. After digging around by the gold dip in the floor, they discovered that the whole floor was made out of marble, and dirt that had fallen off of the walls and ceiling had over time caused a thin layer of dirt to cover everything. Or maybe the Egyptians had caused this to happen on purpose. The center of the dip was the eye of the Egyptian symbol of life, and the symbol itself was made out of the same blue stone that was imbedded in the pendant. Carefully, Anubis laid his pendant with the gem facing down in the dip. There was a whoosh, and the floor around them lurched open, like a hatch. As they fell, Miranda looked up and saw it close again. Whoever got trapped there again wouldn’t be as lucky as they had been. They hit a diagonal slope, and started sliding down a chute of some sort. A wall appeared before them. Just as they were about to hit it, it seemed to vaporize. Magic, Miranda thought. They burst through the “wall” and into the sunlight. The bunch of rats shut their eyes and groaned as the sun seared them. Miranda opened her eyes as they adjusted to the bright light. Miranda looked around and saw that the sun was setting.
“Nola, Rae, get up! Our mistress must be worried sick, who know where she is!” Miranda said, shaking them. Anubis was already on his feet.
“Who?” He asked.
“We have a human that cares for us, and very much so. She must be worried sick!” Miranda replied, speaking fast. Anubis wrinkled his nose in surprise and disgust when he heard the word human. Nola and Rae got up quickly.
“Which way’s the car?” He asked. Miranda and Nola looked around.
“That way.” Miranda said, pointing with her tail the in the direction of the car once she spotted it. “Are you going to come with us, or stay here?” Miranda asked, turning to Anubis.
“With a human?” He asked. “I’m not really sure I like humans… I don’t know.” He replied after a moment of thought.
“You’ll like this human. I know you will.” Rae said, the conviction shining in his eyes, and present in his voice. Anubis nodded.
“I’ll come, but if I don’t like it, then I can always leave.” Anubis said at last.
“Ok, then let’s go!” Miranda said, bounding off in the direction of the car. The other rats followed her.
When they got there, Miranda jumped on the front windshield. Their mistress looked up. With a cry of joy, she threw open the door and let her ratlets run in. Anubis stayed outside of the car door, looking up, a little awkwardly. Their mistress saw him at once, and scooped him up in her arms.
“Who would this be?” She asked quietly and happily. Anubis looked over to the three other rats.
“I’m definitely staying.” He mouthed to them silently, and then snuggled against his new mistress’s cheek.
