!Contest ratlet!
Username:Wolf's Spirit
Why do you want to adopt? I love this little ratlet and think she's totally adorable. I need a little companion for Rae and I think she's perfect. I have been looking for a female rat. Also, I want to have more than three rats, and I know contest rats don't go towards the limit.
Rat Name:She looks like a... Miranda. Usually, I don't name animals human names, but I think it just fits perfectly.
Personality(Likes, dislikes, how they react to people, other rats, etc.): Miranda isn't very girly, even though she hoards pretty objects. She doesn't mind getting into a fight, and is quite a tough little cookie. She doesn't care what others think of her all that much and just has her own style. Miranda gets along with guys better than girls. "Most females are just so girly and ugh. They always just find something to gossip or be dramatic about." Miranda says. (with an eye roll.) Miranda is rather spunky, and doesn't let others push her around. She was a street rat most of her life, and acts like it, too. Most people find her annoying or mean, but she just has a really tough outer shell. On the inside, she's soft, loyal, and protective. She tries to be really nice to her friends, and that "special someone" in her life. She is Very sneaky and smart. That's how she's stayed alive out in the streets so long. Miranda is also very competitive. She always wants to be the best at everything possible. Her motto is kind of like "What you can do, I can do better." She can get over competitive though, and get stuck on all the little details when really, all in all, it's just to have fun. She cannot stand losing to males, and she also hates it when people think boys are better than the females. Miranda loves to see the surprise on people's faces when they see her kicking some serious male butts. Miranda is rather mistrustful of humans, especially when she first meets them. She is weary of them because they set traps to kill her kind, send cats after them, and even a couple dogs. (true story, my dog catches mice, rats, moles, and just about anything else that is small and moves. He's a Rottweiler Labrador mix.) "And humans just hate rats in general. Why would I associate with them?" Miranda comments. Miranda likes glass, jewelry, her necklace, orange juice, canned dog food leftovers, pizza, gummy bears, cotton candy, popsicles, oranges, apples, pie (especially apple pie), noodles, macaroni and cheese, and different sodas. She dislikes humans, cats, dogs (except for Rupert), any annoying or arrogant creatures (not including herself), rat/mouse traps, and spoiled food. She can't eat spoiled food.
Quirks(Little things like "Enjoys sleeping on her back", "Loves hoarding candy wrappers", etc.): Miranda loves collecting broken glass. She has a broken glass collection, and every time she sees a share of glass, she can't help herself but to grab it and stash it away. Sometimes she scratches or cuts herself, but even this cannot faze her. She just tries to be more careful next time. Miranda also loves to hoard jewelry and other sparkly or pretty objects. She usually doesn't wear any of it though. She just has it to own and admire. Her two favorite colors are like green and sky blue. She has a couple of silky ribbons that are those colors. She sometimes tied them to her tail. But if she's ever seen wearing anything, it will probably be a menacing looking dragon necklace she found while looking around a renaissance fair. ("of course I didn't buy it, rats don't have money, you silly human.")
Pick one 'quirk' that I will edit into her information: Miranda loves collecting broken glass. She has a broken glass collection, and every time she sees a share of glass, she can't help herself but to grab it and stash it away. sometimes she scratches or cuts herself, but even this cannot phase her. She just tries to be more careful next time.
What do you plan on doing with your rat(Roleplay, Make art of, Hoard art of, etc.)? Love Miranda, create art of her, rp her. (if buttons and whistles doesn't die. They still didn't accept my form to rp Rae)
If you feel you can no longer care for your Rat, will you return it here to find a new home? Well yes, but you see, this will never happen. I love rats, especially the CSR ratlets, and I won't ever want to give them up. They will always be loved!
Story: Miranda raced down the sidewalk. She was running out of luck, and time. Claws scratched the pavement behind her.
"Slow down, RAT!!!" the cat yowled. "I'll get you THIS time!" it screeched.
"Like that's likely" Miranda muttered under her breath. She had yet another trick up her sleeve. She just hoped it would work. Suddenly, she stopped dead in her tracks. The cat hurdled past her, frantically trying to slow itself down. She spun around, and disappeared down a groused alleyway and made for her hole in the wall. That's what she called her home. She clambered inside, and crawled in the hollow space between the two walls until she got to the room she had gnawed out several meters from the entrance. She was safe here. Miranda flopped down on her wood shaving, paper towel, and cloth nest. She was exhausted.
"A ‘lil run down, huh?" said a husky voice that made Miranda flatten her ears.
"Go home, Rex." She spat. Rex made Miranda's skin crawl. She could never stand him, and especially not at the moment.
"Awww, but Miranda, you don't even know what I want yet." Rex replied in a honeyed tone. "Can't you let a man talk?" he asked.
"You are no man and I already know what you want. And besides, this is where I live, and if you don't get out, then I'll make you!" she growled, raising her voice as she spoke. Oo, oo, oo echoed quietly through the I closed space.
"Why won't you just give me a chance? We could be so happy together. Don't you want a little love in your life?" Rex pleaded. Miranda rolled her eyes.
"I know your type. How many other females have you told the same thing you're telling me right now? And you would leave me defenseless, with little rattlets, and no way to get food or water. We would starve, or I would have to leave them in order to get provisions just to find something ate them or worse." Miranda scowled. "And all of that is just besides the point. I DON'T EVEN LIKE YOU! You are cold, manipulative, untrustworthy, and total scum, even for a rat. Now Git!" She roared. Rex looked startled. He hurdled down the tight space between the walls and kept out of the entrance. Miranda flopped back down. She fell into a restless sleep.
Miranda suddenly woke up. She stayed extremely still. She felt something brush against her. Miranda cracked one eye open. Rex was seaming around her home, and poking at her gem pile! How DARE he?!? Miranda tensed her muscles. She sprang, unleashing a storm of claws that scratched and tore at Rex.
"Get out, Get out, GET OUT!" she screeched. He backed away, a frightened look in his eyes. He turned around and fled , and as he made for the entrance, Miranda lunged out and sank her teeth into his tail. He squeaked in pain, and wrenched his tail free, hurdling towards the outside world. Miranda looked at her jewel pile carefully to see if he had managed to steal anything. Thankfully, nothing was gone. Miranda nibbled on a donut she had gotten from the donut shop from a couple blocks down. Then she curled up in her nest and thought about what to do next.
Miranda decided to peace the following morning. She got into a toy store and stole two of the little handbags for the dolls. And she saw a little pretty green dress that she just had to take along. Plus the Robin Hood clothes along with the hat that came with them . It was more practical for travel. Miranda also took a rope from a cowgirl doll, and her bandana as well. She then left with her "purchases" and went back to her den. She stuffed all her gems and jewelry into the bags. She also packed the rest of the donut. She looked regretfully at her cozy little den. Miranda would miss this place, but she wanted to move on with her life, and away from Rex. She slipped the leggings and tunic on, along with the hat. They fit surprisingly well, especially since they where meant for plastic dolls, not rats. Miranda tucked the green dress into one of the handbags. She put on a necklace, the only one she ever wore. It was a silver dragon on a black cord. Miranda slung a bag over each shoulder and onto her back. Then, she walked out. Miranda decided to head west. She traveled all day, and at night, she found a gap behind a dumpster to bed down. Miranda took off the two bags and set them down. She opened on and took a chunk out for dinner. She ate it, and was still hungry. Not wanting to denimish her resources any more, Miranda climbed up the side of the dumpster to see what she could find. The lid was slightly open, so she slipped in.
After digging around forat least an hour, Miranda dropped to the ground with her findings. She had some slightly hardened chinese noodles, half a corn cob (no mold visible), part of a pizza crust, a jello cup with some jello remains at the bottom, bits of an apple, and some cheese. Delicious. Miranda dug in, and when she was done eating, all there was left was some of the apple bits. Miranda settled in between the two handbags, and pulled out the green dress for a blanket. She fell into a light sleep.
The next morning, Miranda ate another piece of donut and the rest of the apple. She set off again. Miranda headed out of the city out on a country road. She wipped her head arouse sharply. She had heard barking.
"Oi, rat what's with the tiny human clothes?" It asked. Miranda looked around. Finally, her eyes fell on a scruffy brown and white spotted dog, which was rather small, but still about ten times her size, but then again, she was a rather small rat. His ribs were showing, and he wasn’t groomed at all. He was running back and forth along the line of the fence that kept it in.
"Why does it matter to you?" Miranda asked him as she strode up to the fence.
"Just wondering, I didn't mean any offense, sir." The dog yipped.
"I am female." Miranda replied tartly. The dog calked his head. He looked embarrassed.
“Oh, I’m sorry.” The dog apologized. “I find it hard to tell male rats from the girls, and that’s with the leggings off.” He explained. “Plus, that’s clothes that male humans wear.” The dog added. Miranda rolled her eyes.
“Well, I’m wearing clothes because I’m traveling. Since it’s winter, the clothing helps keep me warm along with my natural fur coat. And, I just want to. My mother told me told me stories of traveling rats that dressed and acted like humans when I was little. They were supposedly very fierce warriors.” Miranda admitted sheepishly. The dog looked at her. She wanted to turn invisible, or for the earth to split open and swallow her up. She should not have told the dog that.
“So where are you going?” The dog said at last. Miranda was surprised by that question. She had expected him to make fun of her or think she was weird. Now he just treated her like she had never said anything strange at all. Maybe I’m just overreacting… She thought.
“Away. Away from my old home, the city, the rats who live there.” Miranda answered. The dog narrowed his eyes.
“Why would you want to leave all you have ever known and just head into the unknown?” He asked. Miranda shrugged helplessly.
“I don’t know.” she simply replied. The dog’s eyes darted nervously toward the house on the other side of the field. “Look, I better get going. I stayed here far too long.” Miranda said. She started walking back towards the path.
“Wait!” barked the dog. “I want to come with you!” Miranda turned around to face the fence again.
“Why?” she asked, baffled. “Don’t you live here? Why would you want to come with a rat like me?” she questioned.
“Because my master is mean.” the dog said in a pleading tone. “He beats me, and starves me, and I cannot get away from him. I have no way to get food myself. I have done nothing to him, and yet he treats me like dirt. I try to please him. Please, won’t you take me with you?” he begged. Miranda looked the dog over.
“How do we get you out?” Miranda asked.
“There’s a week spot further down the fence. Just follow me.” The dog replied. Miranda ran after the dog, struggling to keep up. Finally, he stopped. The fence sagged and leaned, and there were a couple of smaller cracks and holes in the wood. The wood itself was decaying from zero maintenance and long, hard years of being exposed to the elements. Miranda wrinkled her nose in disgust.”Well, this is it.” The dog announced. Miranda got to work. She gnawed, scratched, and relentlessly attacked the fence. Splinters flew. Finally, she managed to make a nice sized hole in the fence. The dog helped by digging out the supporters and leaning into the fence to weaken it. As it crawled through, There was a door slam, and a loud shout.
“Rupert, you stupid dawg, GET BACK HERE!!!!” shouted an ugly man in a southern accent. He stormed towards the fence, brandishing a long, think wooden pole.
“Uh-oh, time to go. Get on my back!” The dog exclaimed. Miranda jumped and clung to the dog’s dirty, worn collar. Miranda swung onto his back. The dog charged away, running as fast as his little legs could carry him. Miranda hung onto his collar for dear life. His gaits were bumpy, and if Miranda let go, she would be flung off. She squeezed her eyes shut. She hoped that her handbags wouldn’t fall, or open and dump all of her supplies. Fortunately, the bags were fine. It was Rupert that got worn out. He ran until he could no longer. Then he dropped to the ground like a sack of potatoes. He was breathing really hard, and sweat poured from his shaggy coat. Miranda vaulted off of his back.
“Rupert, are you ok?” Miranda’s voice was thick with concern. Rupert managed a nod. She wrapped her arms around his snout. After awhile, He lifted his head.
“Need… water.” he feebly wheezed. Miranda nodded. She jumped up, dumped her stuff next to Rupert, and hurried away.
Miranda perked her ears. She strained for any noise that could be associated to water. She heard nothing. Miranda looked around. To her left, dense woods grew with little room for light to penetrate the forest floor. To her right, rolling hills covered in tall grasses ruled the land. The trail ahead and behind her split the two sides in half. A couple stray trees grew in ht field.
“Now what?” Miranda asked herself. She had no clue where to go. She figured the woods would be her best bet. There weren’t many creeks in fields, were there now? Miranda started walking, brushing away all the foliage that clung to her. Miranda saw a pretty hawk circled lazily overhead. Wait, what?!? A hawk? It dove for her. Miranda scrambled into a bush. She pressed herself against the slim trunk. The hawk screeched. Miranda heard its wings flapping. Pretty soon, those noises where drowned out by the beating of Miranda’s heart. She sat there shivering for what felt like an eternity. Gradually, she calmed down. Miranda was about to crawl out, and suddenly, there was a huge crash. Something was wading towards her. Miranda cowered behind the stem of the bush. There where terrifying sniffing noises. Miranda was sure she was about to die. A large, wet nose poked through the bush.
“Miranda, is that you under there?” Rupert asked. Miranda shuddered with relief. She ran up to Rupert and hugged his snout. She clung to him. “Uhgmrrghf.” He muttered in surprise. Miranda was smothering him. She finally let go. “Where were you?” Rupert asked. He sounded rather annoyed. “I thought you were trying to get rid of me.” Miranda looked startled.
“Of course not!” she exclaimed. “There was a hawk, and it wanted to eat me. I’ve been here most of the day. You have no idea what it’s like to be afraid that almost everything that moves wants to eat you, get rid of you, or steal something from you.” she squeaked. Rupert looked at her, astonished.
“I am truly sorry. I didn’t mean to falsely accuse you of something so horrible. It never occurred to me that something that you could be in trouble.” He bowed his head.
“Wait, where are my bags? I left them next to you!” Miranda asked frantically. They were her only possessions, besides the clothes on her back.
“Don’t worry, I brought them. I just had to set them down to get my muzzle in this bush.” Rupert replied. Miranda sighed with relief.
“Can we get going now? Miranda asked. Rupert nodded. Miranda crept out of the bush. She found both of her bags, slung them onto her back, and climbed onto Rupert again. They made it safely back to the path. They continued on their way.
After a while, the sun began to set. They decided to go to the side of the road with the tall grasses. Miranda helped Rupert make a comfortable nest out of the grass. They were completely hidden from sight by the tall grass that surrounded them.
“I’m hungry.” Rupert complained after they were finished. Miranda fished what was left of the donut from her pack. She offered it to Rupert.
“You deserve this” Miranda declared. “Without you, I would be moving a quarter of my pace, and on my own two feet. You deserve all the food I have to offer.” Rupert looked taken back.
“Nn-n-o. I couldn’t . It’s all the food we have. You would starve. You should have at least half.” he insisted. Miranda rolled her eyes.
“Puh-lease. If anybody is starving, it’s you. You’re the one who probably hasn’t eaten in days. And this discussion is over. If you don’t eat it, then nobody will. It will rot in my handbag.” Miranda stated. Rupert looked at her. He saw that she was serious. He shrugged, and with a gulp, sir donut was no more. Shortly afterwards, they both fell asleep. Rupert was curled up, and Miranda slept nuzzled up to his stomach.
The next morning, the trek was uneventful. They walked/rode all day, and stopped that night to sleep again. Without food or water.
Miranda woke up first. She was starving, and her mouth felt like a dessert. Rupert wasn’t doing much better.
“We.. have… to.. find… water” Miranda gasped. They continued walking. Both of them. She didn’t want to burden Rupert, so Miranda walked as well, instead of riding. For once, Rupert didn’t object. Miranda perked for her ears. She heard a strange bubbling sound. She walked faster. There. Up ahead, a bridge led the path over a gurgling stream. Miranda dropped her bags and quickly undid her clothing. She cannonballed into the cool, clear water below. Miranda gulped mouthfuls of water until she thought she would either sink, explode, or a combination of the two. Rupert landed beside her. He made a huge splash.
After a while, Miranda got cold. She climbed out of the water, followed by Rupert. They dried off, and continued on their trip.
Two days later, a very tired and highly underfed rat riding on a dog in an even worse condition wandered around the outskirts of a small country town.
“Now what?” Rupert asked.
“We find a place to live. It has to have a food source nearby so we can eat, and fresh water we can drink.” Miranda replied. She hopped off of Rupert’s back. Rupert nodded. They explored the town. It was relatively small, so it was hard to find a suitable place. Finally, they came across an abandoned house. It had ivy growing all over its walls. The door hung slightly ajar. The lawn was very overgrown, with weeds sprouting everywhere and the grass that was there was over four feet tall. The bushes by the front of the house covered up every visible wall and made it slightly hard to get to the door. Perfect. Miranda and Rupert crept in cautiously. Nothing happened. They crept around, and found that the house had a kitchen, a small bathroom, two bedrooms, and two closets. They decided to make their main living area and sleeping area in the smaller bedroom, since it was the driest, and the carpet wasn’t moldy yet. Miranda discovered that there was a leak in the small back yard. She wasn’t quite sure where the water camp from, but it pooled up in a small, deep puddle. Miranda couldn’t see the bottom. It smelled fresh, and when she drank some, it tasted fine as well. The water problem was solved. Excited, Miranda told Rupert what she had found. He was thrilled.
“Now, how will we get food?” Rupert asked. Miranda looked at him.
“We ding in dumpsters, get food from restaurants, bakeries and Look around for food humans leave behind. Rupert wrinkled his nose. “We’ll bet more food than your master ever fed you.” She added. Rupert nodded.
“Let’s go then. I don’t want to starve any longer.” Rupert said. Miranda jumped onto his back, and they left. The sun was beginning to set. “Shouldn’t we wait ‘till morning? It’s going to be dark out soon.” Rupert asked.
“No, that’s when we want to be looking for food. The humans hate it when animals like us get in their dumpsters and their practically blind at night. It’s a much better time to be foraging for food. Trust me, I have experience.”Miranda explained. Rupert cocked his head. Miranda looked back at him.
“I didn’t know that.” He said at last. Miranda laughed. Rupert started walking down the sidewalk. He certainly didn’t want to get hit by a car.
In about a mile, they came across a Chinese all you can eat buffet.
“Oh goody!” Miranda squeaked. They have the BEST foods at Chinese buffets. And since it’s all you can eat, they’ll be throwing out lots of food since humans always get more than they can eat. We’ll never go hungry.”Miranda said happily. She did a little happy dance, and fell off of Rupert’s back. She landed in a giggling pile.
“Miranda, are you ok?” Rupert asked, concerned. He’d never seen Miranda like this in his life.
“Oh I’m fine.” Miranda assured. “But think of all the food!”
Miranda and Rupert walked around the restaurant to the back. There was not one, not two, but three whole dumpsters. Miranda dove into one. She pushed out bits and pieces of food onto the ground. Rupert ate whatever landed there. Soon, Rupert was full. He didn’t touch any of the food that fell down. Miranda hopped down, and ate her fill. Then, she climbed back into the dumpster. She rummaged around, and tore off a big hunk from a trash bag and brought it with her. Miranda wrapped up the leftovers, and climbed onto Rupert’s back.
“I have tomorrow’s breakfast.” She announced.
Days passed like this, and then weeks. Sometimes they would eat Chinese, or they would go a little bit further to the ice cream shop and eat some of the hamburgers or other fried foods that even ice cream shops sell. Eventually, Rupert’s worn collar fell off. The seasons changed, and spring set in.
One day, a young girl walked down the path of the abandoned house with an adorable pineapple rat riding on her shoulder. She pushed the door open gently.
“I haven’t been here since last fall.”She thought. “I wonder if it’s all the same.” Miranda perked her ears. Then she tensed. She had heard footsteps. In her house! Rupert growled. The girl poked her head into the room. “Oh my.” She gasped. “You look sooo cute, in your little outfit.” She said, looking at Miranda. She reached her had towards Rupert. “Good boy.” She said softly. Rupert whined and rolled onto his belly. She scratched it. The rat that looked like a pineapple jumped of the girl’s shoulder. He walked up to Miranda.
“Hi, I’m Rae, who are you?” He asked.
“Miranda” She replied. “What are you doing in my home, Rae?”
“Well, me and my owner used to come here all the time. The winter set in, and we’ve been staying indoors most of the time. We didn’t have a chance to come here until now.” Rae explained. Miranda nodded. She was crestfallen. Where would she live now? This place didn’t really belong to her. The girl fished a piece of rope out of her backpack. She gently tied it around Rupert’s neck. He tried to shy away, but she had tied the knot. Miranda was up in a flash. She rat up Rupert’s leg, and started gnawing on the rope. The girl laughed. She picked Miranda up and set her where Rae had been sitting. Rae climbed up next to her. “Don’t worry, she won’t hurt you. My master will take care of you. She’ll love you, and feed you, water will be plentiful, and she’ll provide shelter. You should come with us.” Rae advised. “You won’t be sorry.” Miranda looked at him. She wasn’t sure if she should jump, or come with the girl and Rae. Miranda wasn’t sure what to do. She couldn’t abandon Rupert. She stayed on the girl's shoulder.
