I found the name "Rochelle to be fitting not only because it sounds a little like shell, but because she shared it with her mother and grandmother alike.

She believes her lucky charm is the Jewelbox shell. RTeason being is that her grandomther used to tell her fables of finding various necklaces and pearls inside these wondorous shells, and often took her out to try and find them herself (to no success). When her grandmother passed, she left her granddaughter a single box, inside was a shell and within it the moth beautiful pearl necklace she ever laid eyes on. To this day, she keeps the shell and necklace, them being her prized possessions she often thinks of having the ability to bring her luck.

reason for name;; Being based on the ocean, Kaia is a Hawaiian name. The name itself is the feminine form of the unisex name Kai, both meaning "sea". I thought the name really suited her and the meaning described her looks pretty well.

lucky seashell charm;; Kaia's lucky seashell charm is a sand dollar.
The reason for this is that her mother always took them to the beach, and occassionally they would find chunks of sand dollars. It had always been well known in their family that sand dollars are good luck. It had always been a dream of Kaia's to find a whole sand dollar one day, and to cherish its luck forever. And one day, a couple years ago, Kaia was out playing in the waves. The water was extremely clear and see-through. She just happened to look down and catch a glimpse of what appeared to be a pure white sand dollar. A wave was approaching quickly though, so she covered it up with one paw, hoping she had protected it from returning to the sea. When the wave left, Kaia took her hand off the sand. Her face brightened up when she saw a large white sand dollar lying before her. (Sand dollars are actually known to be good luck in my family too, so I am not making this up)
