LumiBean? wrote: Similar to Axolotls, these amphibians can live both in water and on land. Lumis despite being able to live on land spend most of their lives in the water within different depths. Lumis collect air in their necks air sac, sealing it by scrunching their faces into their necks and can stay underwater without surfacing for air for up to 3 days! With bright color patterns and friendly attitudes these beauties often get kept as pets for show. Lumis that live or came from their natural habitat often release a blinding light from within their air sac when frightened, a defense mechanism used in the wild to escape predators.

Habitat and Traits
- << Surface/Coral: Lumis that live in the sufaces of most bodies of water, or in Coral reefs are the most commonly seen type. They also often end up in ponds, streams, lakes and rivers. These Lumis often express bright colors and palettes, and are commonly people friendly and are the most well known in discussion. Because of their beautiful coloration, surface and coral dwellers are often taken as show pets. Lumis who live towards the surface often have thin skin and enjoy the suns heat. Surface Lumis feed on common surface plants, algae, and occasional baby crabs and will eat shrimp if given. Because they are so far from the sea floor they never get a chance to experience the rare glowing sea grass, an uncharted plant that only grows on the sea floor. Often grow from 5 to 9 inches long without tail length.
<< Center/Canal: These Lumis live in various ranges between the surface and floor of the sea, and are occasionally seen i rivers and streams. Though some of these Lumis may prefer higher up to the warm surface, or lower to the darker depths they can not handle going too far into the ocean as the pressure becomes too much for them to bare. Often found to be travelers, making their way around bodies of water from place to place, these Lumis often move in large groups making their own underwater paths called 'Canals'. Some move alone in the currents left behind. Mid Lumis commonly feed on smaller baby fish and stray vegetation, occasionally catching a piece of glowing sea grass, a luxury, that has detached from the sea floor and been missed by the bottom dwellers, often telling tales to the surface Lumis bragging about how great the stuff is. Grow from 5 to 12 inches long without tail length
<< Bottom Dwellers: Not often if ever seen, 'bottom dwellers' surf the depths of the ocean floor and trenches. Specially bred through lines of nature to sustain the level of pressure from the water above these dark colored Lumis are one of the few species that can handle the oceans pressure and can live so deep below. Because of their preference to deep water bottom dwellers in captivity always die in less than a week if not released. Those who live on the ocean floor dive deep into trenches and feed mostly on glowing sea grass. It has been acknowledged that over years of adaptation bottom dwellers have actually developed gills to allow them to live deep down without ever having to surface for air. It is almost never heard of to see them on land or in the surface but some say when they do reach the top they tend to have a slimy glaze over them. Can grow to be 15 inches long.
More Facts
- >> Of the amphibian origin, and Ancestors of the Axolotl
>> Meant to live on land but spend most time in water when awake
>> Lumis hold air in their necks airsac, and scrunch their faces down to plug their nose and mouth so no air escapes.
>> Their collected air can last them anywhere from 1 to 3 days
>> Lumis have natural lights in their throat that flash brightly when feeling fear. This is a defense mechanism used to blind their enemies and make their escape.
Quirks
- << Lumis are often referred to as night bobbers, as many of them sleep floating on the surface using their necks as floating pillows so they will not sink. They often forget that the sun can not warm them when it goes down, and no longer wish to leave the temperature they had adjusted to.
<< Lumis when on land commonly scavenge for fruit, but never actually eat it. They prefer to drink the juice from them and leave the rest to rot.
<< Because of their different living habitats, while surface Lumis tend to be attracted to shiny things, bottom dwellers fear them.
