LONG, LONG AGO,

there lived a vast empire of humans, known and feared by many as the greatest warriors to have ever existed. They prided themselves on their skills in combat and the art of war, and spent their days engaged in spars amongst each other. No one dared to stand up to the then-mighty empire, and as they were left undisturbed, they grew in power tremendously.

From there on, the story is in pieces. The only part that remains clear has boggled the minds of scientists for centuries: every last one of the great warriors was turned into a hybrid of two of the most skittish and cowardly animals on earth. These sheep-deer mixes gained the composure of a deer mixed with the thick, woolly fur of a sheep. Many say the transformation was to punish the empire for their violent ways of fighting and extreme pride. And thus, the species was named Vindicos as a sort of battle cry: they would avenge their great empire.

To this day, (many centuries after the occurrence of the transformation) Vindicos still base their societies on the idea of fighting. If they go for too long without sparring against another Vindico, they have been known to grow incredibly angsty, sad, and depressed. Each Vindico, at birth, is also granted an emblem that represents them in battle, as during spars, Vindicos do not think in words. Rather, they think in images, and these symbols help a Vindico refer to other Vindicos and him/herself. Each Vindico has their specific emblem painted on their shoulder, and it never changes throughout their entire life.

1] Treat all staff members and other users with respect. It doesn't matter if you're longtime rivals, at least have the decency to not bring it into the species.

2] Do not copy any original concepts within the species; they are not free for the taking.

3] You are not allowed to give any adopted Vindicos special powers or edits of any sort.

4] Do not mini-mod or ask to become a staff member; the only way staff will join the team is through invitation or applications.

5] At the moment, you may own up to 4 Vindicos, which you are not allowed to sell, trade, or make your fursona.

6] Please, don't complain about anything within the species. Critique is alright, but plain complaining or whining is not welcome.

7] You may not alter or revamp a Vindico's design without permission.

8] The staff reserve the right to take away Vindicos for any reason needed. (don't fret though, there's not a lot of harshness here)

9] If you are banned from the species, you are not allowed to try for Vindicos, post on any Vindico-related thread, draw art of Vindicos, roleplay owned Vindicos, breed Vindicos, be gifted a Vindico, gift your Vindico(s) away, etc. You get the idea.

10] Do not ask for customs, edits, etc. They will be handed out as seen fit.

11] Do not tamper with or alter your Vindico's battle sprite.

● Both male and female Vindicos have horns, which are used for fighting. However, in rare cases, Vindicos don't have horns. This is seen as a curse due to the fact that it leaves them vunerable.

● All Vindicos have an emblem on both shoulders (it's indentical on both sides); this emblem must be purely pictorial, numbers and words are not allowed.

-Emblems can either be one color or a gradient
●Oddly enough, Vindicos do not have any sort of visible pupil, but this doesn't affect their eyesight at all.

BATTLE IN VINDICO SOCIETY

Sparring between Vindicos is used to determine most everything in the species from petty arguments to large disputes, as well as being a major pastime. Each spar goes until one side can no longer fight without risking serious injury; fighting to the death is incredibly frowned upon unless used as a last resort in means of self defense. As well as happening one-on-one, battles can also happen between larger teams of Vindicos.

SINGLE SPARS

Single spars are as simple as they sound: one Vindico goes up against another Vindico, first left unable to battle loses.

TEAM SPARS

-----
Team spars are fights between two teams of any size; however, Vindicos normally do not "gang up" against other Vindicos. This means that things like 3 vs 1 battles are fairly rare, unless the 1 happens to be of incredible strength. To win in a team spar, every one of the opposite team's Vindicos must be left unable to fight. Teams can be formed and disbanded at practically any time.

BATTLE SPRITES

Each Vindico comes with a battle sprite like the above, colored in to match their design. Occasionally, battle sprites might be animated, or have other rarer qualities to them. You're welcome to use the battle sprites of any Vindicos you own in your signature, on a character thread, etc.

STAT SHEETS

Before any adopters can post forms, CeruleanRush normally claims the second post on each Vindico's adopt page. This is for use as that Vindico's stat sheet; the information on it determines if a Vindico wins or loses each battle they participate in. Each stat sheet is set up as follows:

The 3 stats above the line are what play the biggest role in battles. ATTACK determines how powerful each hit that the Vindico deals is. DEFENSE determines how much damage the Vindico receives when hit. AGILITY determines which Vindico attacks first at the beginning of the battle. Beneath that, there is a place for BONUSES. These add extra advantages to the Vindico in battle. The different kinds of bonuses Vindicos can gain are being discovered constantly.

RAISING STATS

Vindicos up for adoption normally have fairly low stats; helping them raise their stats is up to you! This is done by applying items to your Vindico, which can be gained by purchase with reputation credits, the Vindicos' major form of currency. Being incredibly prideful creatures, their currency was named after such. RC can be obtained through battles, events, currency exchanges, being active, etc. Simply exchange your earned RC for items of your choice in the shop, and then apply them to your Vindico.

RANDOM ENCOUNTER BATTLES

Occasionally, a non-Vindico opponent will show up that your Vindicos can challenge once per day. I won't reveal too much yet, but long story short... there'll be prizes. B)

THE LOGISTICS OF BATTLE

Yes, there is a system of sorts to determine the winner of each battle. If you're interested to see how I go through everything, here you go.


I start by seeing which Vindico has the highest agility; that Vindico attacks first. Using random.org, I generate a random number 1-100. If that number falls in the range of 1-[insert attacking Vindico's attack stat # here], the attack is a hit. However, before I can count it as a hit, I generate another number 1-100. If that number falls in the range of 1-[insert defending Vindico's defense stat # here], the defending Vindico is not hit. The other Vindico then becomes the attacker, and the process repeats. The first Vindico to hit the opposing Vindico 10 times is the winner!

FINDING AN OPPONENT

On the Vindico fanclub, you can advertise the fact that you or your team is looking for battles, or PM others who have stated they or their team are looking for battles. Once you've both agreed, you can post a form on the battle thread. You can check for the results in the battle archives!

The above is the form you have to fill out to set up a single battle; the code form is available on the battle thread. Filling it out is as straightforward as it looks. However, there are a couple things you have to do. In the "Link to Vindico #" section, please link to the oekaki page as a whole, not just the oekaki image. In the "Vindico #'s Stats" section, please go to the stat post on the oekaki page and click the "quote" button. Then copy all of what comes up in the post, and paste it after the "Vindico #'s Stats ::" in the code.

The team battle form requires a bit more work. As teams can be any number of Vindicos, we can't put up a perfect form skeleton. So, you're going to have to piece the parts together.
