General Rules

1. Do not use any mercats that don't belong to you. This includes my custom and mascot, Poseidon. (the blue striped mercat above)
2. Do not rush me to end contests, finish customs, or add to your tank. I am busy and can't draw every day.
3. Please don't steal any art... From me or other adopters.
4. Do not try out for any more mercats if your tank(s) is/are full.
5. Please don't ask to be staff... If I am looking for any I will make an announcement. c:
6. Do NOT re-sell or give your mercats to anyone else! If you don't want them, let me know and I will put them in The Pound for re-adoption!
7. Please do not spam up the thread with random comments.

Mercat Adoptions operates on a '3 strikes and you're out' system. You can, however, be banned immediately for art theft. Once you are banned you will lose all your mercats. They will be put into the pound for re-adoption. My Moderators, A Wandering Tiger and Mr.Sandwich, will be helping me with this.

7/4/14 I have set up a small 4th of July Event! This includes opening customs for a day. *wink wink*
6/14/14 The flooring in my room and the rest of the downstairs is getting redone! This means everything has to be moved out. So, while I will try to keep up on art and everything, I'm not promising I will have time to sit down and draw. Just letting everyone know, things might be a little slower. c:
5/28/14 Customs are closed. I don't know when, if ever, I will open them again. I have also added a limit to the number of mercats you can own: 36. This means you can have up to six tanks. This is still a lot, but perhaps it will mean some of you will be more picky about which mercats you get. c:
4/21/14 The Mercat Egg Hunt is now over. Also, I will be unable to do art starting from this Thursday until Saturday, because of orchestra. So don't expect me to be on much! And wish me luck, it's a competition. c:

Mercats are a strange hybrid, with a dolphin-like tail and the upper body of a cat. They are small enough to fit in a goldfish bowl. Mercats can be an infinite number of color and pattern combinations, but it is extremely rare for any sort of physical mutation to occur.

Mercats are omnivores, though they tend to sway more to the carnivorous side. They will eat water plants and small bugs that fall into the water. Sometimes a group will work together to catch and then share a fish. They are slightly territorial towards other mercats when they have young babies, but otherwise move freely around.

Mercats are generally a social species, in the sense that they live in small, tightly knit groups. However, their personalities do vary, so you might find one that is a bit more of a loner. They are active and playful, and also quite intelligent.

Mercats are not exactly magical creatures. They don't have powers. Also, as another note, mercats cannot be changed into other species, nor can the opposite occur. Normal cats are a completely separate species.

Sometimes mercats are born as PPS-- This means they will never grow up. I will put occasional PPS mercats up for regular or event adoption, and there is also a chance of getting a PPS during breeding! PPS mercats also can't, and will never be able to, breed.

Most mercats don't wear any clothes or accessories. Occasionally there will be one up for adoption with them(But usually only for events) and customs can now be bought with accessories too, if enough is payed. However, the majority of mercats see no need for petty things like jewelry.

Adopting a mercat is simple. All you need to do is find a mercat that still has the "Adopt Me!" sign and fill out the form. Sometimes it will be very simple, with only basic information, but more often it is a bit of a competition. Depending on how many people are trying out, judging may not start until a week to a month, possibly longer in certain circumstances.

Adopting a mercat this way is completely free, and there is a limit to the number of mercats you can own: 36.**

**Read below about tanks, since you can only have six mercats per tank.

Tips To Winning
Having difficulties getting a mercat? Try these tips. c:

~Put effort into your form. It is possible you aren't winning if you only write a sentence or a couple words where other people are writing multiple detailed sentences.
~Don't make up crazy stuff. This doesn't mean you can't get creative, but if you are writing about magical fairies or making your mercat seem all powerful, I am less likely to choose you.
~Show me how much you want it. I can usually tell who will look after the mercat the best, just by the emotions/tone/word choice in the form. Prove to me you'll take care of it!
~I probably won't pick you if you list part of the mercat's personality as depressed. I've had a couple minorly traumatizing experiences with depression and suicide and I dislike it when such topics are brought up.
~Keep trying! Seriously, if you give up, you have no chance.

Tanks are a place where you can keep your mercats in a little group. It is basically just an easier way for you to find all your mercats and see them all together. A tank can hold up to 6 mercats, and the names and links to all the mercats in the tank will be in the first post underneath the drawing.

Everyone who adopts a mercat will have a tank. Mercats don't have to be in the same tank to breed.

The first tank is free, but if you want more than six mercats you will have to buy another tank. The cost for your second tank and onwards goes up exponentially. The second tank is one uncommon, the third tank is two uncommons, the fourth tank is four uncommons, etc.

As of 5/28/14, you can only have up to six tanks.

You can breed your mercats, but you must have at least one empty spot in your tank.

When mercats breed, they will have one to four babies. If a mercat with a mutation breeds, that mutation will probably not be passed down(But there is a small chance). The color of the mercat will be a combination of the parents'. Custom mercats can breed with other customs or normal mercats. Breeding is free.

Mercats will not breed with their brothers/sisters/parents, but all other family relationships are fair game.

You can breed one of your mercats with someone else, but if you two start arguing about who gets what baby I will put them both up for regular adoption. So I suggest you be civil when deciding. There will always be at least two babies when the parents are owned by separate people.

Customs Are Closed

You can order a custom mercat, however I will warn you: These are expensive. Also, no mutations will be added to customs, so don't ask for any. You can pay extra to add accessories, BUT it must be quite a bit extra-- I will look at each case separately.

The cost of a custom is now a rare, from years 2010-2008. I will no longer accept equivalents in other rarities of pets. C$ and items are still accepted, but I will check on the Fair Trade Thread to make sure they are equal to a rare.

Welcome to The Pound! Here, any mercats that are no longer wanted will stay. Also, mercats that nobody ever tried out for will come here to attract a little more attention.

Mercats that are up for re-adoption may not be renamed or given a new personality. You also must pay a small fee(equivalent to a common pet) to ensure the poor thing won't have to change homes again.

Mercats that have no entrants are just there to attract attention, you will still post forms on their threads.
