Characteristics
This equine species is build like a normal draft horse, but they are far from a normal equine. They are large and muscular, heights reaching from sixteen hands to nineteen. They have feathering on their lower legs that doesn't get long. They live in a secluded area of forest and plains, with a large water source. Their coat patterns often range from solids, pintos and paints. You will rarely see Appaloosas and roans, and albinos are basically unheard of. Gianrhins have feather along their backs near the base of their tail, a known characteristic for the species. Their tails are not like equines but more feline and agile, breaking into a fork at the end with an extra path of feathering before the break. Another characteristic is their ear feather and horns. The ear feathering helps protect their ears from harsh cold winter months and blizzards. The horns are only found in males, often used during mating season to fight other stallions and also impress the mare. The three horns are made of ivory and found in many colors, mostly the shades of the stallion's eye color. They also have chin feathering.
Mares are often larger than the stallion and sometimes more aggressive. They are known to attack without being provoked and are very unpredictable. The species is small in numbers due to the fact that mares seem only able to have four foals in their lifespan. These equines live up to twenty years in the wild, though the stallions often times don't reach their full lifespan due to injuries and fights. Stallion are able to breed six times. Their manes don't get long, though there is no reason why they just seem to stay short throughout their lives.
Behaviour
Gianrhins aren't friendly towards many animals other than themselves. The females tend to be more aggressive than the males and are known to kill anything that comes too close for their comfort when they have a foal with them. The males tend to avoid each other until the spring when the females are ready to breed. Males tend to show off their horns and fight to impress the mare, but in the end, the mare is the one who chooses her partner since they are very picky with stallions.
This species loves water along with the forest in which they inhabit. Stallion's use the trees to sharpen the three horns on their heads and the mares like the secluded area. The Gianrhins are sometimes found in herds but they mostly stick with pairs and family groups, unlike regular horses.
