Furideer are ultra friendly, ultra fluffy creatures that have many traits of a deer. They're rather canine-like, but are only linked to dogs, wolves and foxes by a little. They are quite baffling, as most of their DNA is similar to deer and its relatives, but with a hint of dog.
They have an omnivorous diet of mostly fruit, bark and leaves, though they do eat the occasional lizard or bird. They make a sound just like a deer, though it is slightly cropped like a 'woof'. Furideer are super social and friendly, loving to snuggle with their family or owner. They are easily tamed and adore attention, having no vicious bone in their furry body. They come in all colours, and despite their first appearance, can get very colourful. Their patterns aren't usually that complex, mostly consisting of two to five different coat shades.
Can you win the heart of one of these Furideer? Once you do, they'll be loyal to you and you'll become friends for life.

Adult: Fallow Deer
Basic Appearance
Furideer are slightly large and canine-like in their build. They have a long tail that is furry along the bottom and ends in a big tuft of silky fur. They are slim but can appear stocky, and are extremely elegant and run very fast and quiet. They have antlers on their heads that don't shed like deer antlers do, and rather large ears that pick up most sounds. Their species is quite safe from hunters and other animal predators, due to their size, speed and quiet. They're not overpopulated, however, due to the fact they only have one fawn at a time and don't breed all that often. Their paws have quite short claws, but they are perfectly capable of climbing trees and commonly reside in them. Depending on the herd's beliefs, Furideer can be either nocturnal or diurnal, so their eyes adjuct easily. they have tufty feet and locks of fur on their front paws, as well as a fluffy mane on the backs of their necks.
Spots
All Furideer, like the fallow deer, have spots. They run along their back from the base of the neck to the thigh, and are always a colour slightly lighter than their main colour. Sometimes these can be very colourful, and really rainbow Furideer love to show off their beautiful spots! Sometimes there may be more or less spots, but every Furideer will generally have them. The case where they have no spots at all is in most rare of rare occasions; No Spot Syndrome, or NSS.
Antlers
Every single Furideer ever has had a set of deer-like antlers. They will never EVER be bred out of their DNA, and there's no medical condition that can provent them. Fawns are born without them, but sprout from their heads at very young ages. The type of antler can vary within families, so it's completely random. They can grow to any different length; some will continue to grow forever, and some will stop growing before adulthood. Furideer enjoy decorating their antlers.
Beads
Just like with antlers, every Furideer will get a set of three large beads that they wear around their tail. They can receive them at any time, but usually when they're very small. In some families or herds of Furideer, it becomes a special ritual for fawns to receive their beads. They always have three, always on their tail, and are always three different shades of their eye colour.
Fur
How can you be called a Furideer without being super furry? They are a species all about being fluffy; the fluffier the better. They cannot have less fur than normal, so if they're going to have different fluff it's going to be more! They have very fluffy tails and feet, as well as a long mane on the backs of their heads. Their hair is very silky and ever so soft; all the better to cuddle them!
Medical Conditions
FLS - Fawn for Life Syndrome, or FLS, is the fairly uncommon medical condition that prevents a Furideer from growing to full maturity. They can either reach teen or child age, but never adult. They still receive beads and of course antlers, and it's not serious.
NSS - No Spot Syndrome, or NSS, is the extremely rare condition that prevents a Furideer from getting any spots whatsoever. Furideer with this syndrome are often gazed upon like very special beings, being so absolutely rare.
STG - The Short Tail Gene, or the STG, is another very, very rare condition where the Furideer has a gene that makes their tail very short. Because most have long, fluffy tails, this gene can make them look quite odd. It's extremely rare, however, so most Furideer will end up with lovely, fluffy tails!
DCC - Drab Coat Condition, or DCC, is the condition that is very similar to Albino in other animals. But Furideer with DCC have no other colours! They are one complete colour; their mane, coat, eyes, nose, and tail are all the exact same shade with nothing else. The only things that are different are the spots and antlers. This is rare, but not very rare. It's not pleasant for a Furideer to have, though, because they are ones to adore being colourful.
Life Cycle
A Furideer is brought into the world through birth, just like most mammals. A mother will only have one fawn at a time, and can only breed once every two years. They have a gestation of seven months.
When a young fawn is born, it has its eyes open and a full coat of fur, but it not quite ready to run. After a week, they can stand properly and jump around, and that's when they'll develop antlers. When their antlers are established and growing healthily, a common custom for most herds is to present the young with their beads.
After around a year, the young Furideer will enter his or her teen years. They are a teenager for roughly two years, and this is the period where they get longer legs, extra fur, a growth spurt in their antlers, and they eat a LOT. They can get mood swings and snappy, but this passes.
After three years, the young Furideer becomes more mature and ready for the world. They are accepted officially into their herd and settle down to take responsibilities, and at this age they are able to mate. Most Furideer start their own families and settle with their life-long partner, and Furideer live to be twenty years old.
