Now that it's December c: It's the end of the challenge and time to do a check-in with those of you who were brave enough to attempt the challenge in this year of uncertainty. How did everyone's NaNoWriMo projects go this year? I've made myself a promise that I am going to definitely do it next year as this year my life was in too much chaos ahaha.

I ended up finishing at a little over 50k words. It's definitely not great, and I'm definitely not going to go back and edit, but it did show me that what I'm capable of accomplishing!

This year will be my second NaNoWriMo, last year I only managed about 15k word but I'm hoping to do all 50k this year! It will certainly be challenging between the rest of life.
I almost finished my daily word count for today.

This year I'm writing a queer ya coming of age & romance story, so let's see how this goes. I didn't really get around to plotting this year but I have my major plot points standing, luckily.
In case anyone wants to be my buddy on the official website, I'm kattostrophe over there.

I want to do NaNoWriMo this year, but I have no idea what to write about. How does everyone come up with ideas? I need inspiration.

Think about the things you like to read about, get inspiration from your favorite books, music, video games, movies... media in general. Think about things you know about or experienced and how you can combine them or add them to a story. Basically mash up all the things you love and your experiences.
Or if you don't know if you could write original fiction just yet, maybe try some fan fiction! Fan fiction is always a great start to get into writing! Reimagine your favorite stories!

Last year I didn't join nanowrimo even though I probably wrote a little almost every day throughout November 2020 ... I had quite the flow to say the least and I was sad afterwards that I didn't join ...
Because of that I decided to join it this year even though I won't be writing during the weekends due to me most of the time being away from my computer and either restoring my cottage or simply hanging out with my partner.

I decided to stick with my story that I've been writing on and off on throughout the entire year. I figured it was no need to leave it since the inspiration hasn't left me yet. (:
I already used it once in nanowrimo a couple of years ago when I was still writing the previous version of it ... And a day late, I started at the 106 000 k words that I had been writing up until October, meaning my goal is 156 000 k words in total (though I will still only aim to write 50 000k words anyway, since I truthfully haven't been able to reach the 50 000 k wordcount during the three times I joined nanowrimo before). Though I only have four chapters remaining in the story, so I shall wait and see if those four chapters will cover that amount. If they don't, I shall simply go back to the beginning and start working with the proof reading, re-write the parts I know already that I need to go back and do some final edits on and so forth.

I'm looking forward to see how close I can get to 50 000k this time. (: At least I managed to almost catch up to what I missed during the first day by writing 3100 words yesterday.

hey y'all! this is my first year trying to do NaNoWriMo. i pretty much only ever write fanfic, and I'm awfully inconsistent, so writing an original novel is going to be a real challenge for me. I've been thinking about doing this all year, and even though i work in retail and my life is really hectic, i really want to give it my all. chickensmoothie really helped me practice and improve my writing skills more than i can even really appreciate. i joined in 2011 and have been roleplaying on and off on this website for a decade, my writing style evolving with me as i grew up. it's always been my dream to write an actual novel, but it's hard to motivate myself. i hope this challenge is the thing that finally lights that fire under me. feel free to dm me if you wanna talk about our wips or the challenge in general!

hey, I didn't know about this, it sounds really neat! was just talking to a coworker about how I used to be really into creative writing and I sorta fell off of it over the years because of school, jobs, lack of muse, etc. I gotta read up on the requirements and if there's a place to share and read other's work, I'd really love to try my hand at it.

Its exciting to see people just finding out about nanowrimo! It's my... 12th? year participating (though I haven't won since like 2014 lol) but I'm trying again this year.

I'm working on a brand new project this year which is quite the change for me as I've been working on my previous book for the past 5 years or so, but it's fun to be coming up with new characters again!
