I have an easier time understanding my German friend's accent over Ventrillo than my own father's southern accent that comes through whenever he gets on the phone. ;_; Why is it so hard? I don't get it. Does my brain just reject the southern accent even though it's still English?

I'm also really irritated at the number of people that literally can't tell my mother's voice from mine over the phone. We really don't sound alike at all -_-
