Are the calculations the same as feeding a dog a raw diet?
And would prey model work best?
I have been seriously considering this, but I'm not even sure where to start. How should I convert the ferret over to raw? What kind of side effects will I have to deal with at first?
Ferrets actually have some VERY serious health problems if not fed the correct diet (kibble mainly). They really really suffer from not having a raw/really high meat content food. Insomia (I really fail at the spelling EVERY TIME but its basically cancer in the pancreas) is sssooo common in kibble fed ferts. Diabetes also runs ramped and dental diseases. </3 Our dogs and cats can tolerate a kibble/canned diet, but these guys fare nearly as well.
I'm not sure the amount daily, but I wouldn't think its be over 4 oz a day.
The calculations are the same, but awesomely a ferrets main diet is just fine being rodents like mice and rats. Small rabbits can be given along with quail and chicks. Ground mixes are varous kinds can be bought such places as reelrawdog.com, mypetcarnivore.com, and saddogsushi.com. Stella & Chewys makes good ground mixes and so does Prime and Natures Variety Instinct.
