word count ;; 578xxxxit started in fifth grade, when she went through the first process. she didn't even know what she had become, not until the craving for blood had filled her mind. nothing but the thought of having the sweet, red, metallic liquid from a warm body would fill her thoughts. nothing else satisfied her.
xxxxit had been seven years since then, but it had only been four years since she had found shadow falls. at this place, she felt safe, she felt wanted- by others like her, by others of opposing species. all of them came together in one boarding school to meet what they thought wouldn't be possible. but now that she has seen it with her own eyes, that a place as accepting as this, she believes that there's more than just that of the normal world.
xxxx"they care about you, you didn't have to go through with that."
xxxx"but i did. they stopped calling, texting, i'm pretty sure they stopped worrying."
xxxx"madison, that wasn't a good-"
xxxxshe covered her face more with the black hoodie that was placed above her head, and she stared directly at one of the missing person's photo's on the wall. the fourteen year old girl in that picture looked so lively, so energetic, yet so dead. her skin was pale, her hair had gone black, and her eyes were unsettling. her lips were curled into that happy, teenage girl smile, that brought back so many terrible memories. she looked nothing like that, no one would identify her, as this young girl that was printed onto this paper and hung up somewhere. everywhere.
xxxx"maddie, if they hadn't cared they wouldn't have put the papers up."
xxxxthe argument that her friend played was a nice one, but it wasn't enough to convince her at this point.
xxxx"you're wrong, 'lyssa, they only put it up because the want to find me, and then tell me how terrible of a child i am, and how i deserve to go to rehabilitation. they convicted me of doing drugs before i found shadow falls. they don't care about me as much as your parents do. it's better to simply let them believe, instead of letting them find out the truth about what i am, and what i can actually do. they don't need to know where i am. call them, i will know. i'm done trying to be their 'oh so perfect child' that they want. i'm finished with it. done."
xxxxalyssa looked down at the ground shamefully, and then the two girls turned away from the poster and began to walk away, right back towards fallen.
xxxxmadison was hurt inside, not just by the fact that her parents already believed she was some crack head, but by the fact that she had to pretend to go missing in order to get left alone for good. if no one knew who that girl in the photo was, then she would be safe. she didn't want her parents finding her at this point, she only figured that it would end badly, not only for her, but for her friends at fallen, for her newfound family. she had lived there for three years, refusing to return home. refusing to see her sister. refusing to go see her little brother in the hospital after her tried the unthinkable. she was finished trying to keep in contact with people outside of shadow falls. that was her home, that's where she belonged.
