Freya's paws pounded against the grassy forest floor. The black plastic pot that she had stolen whacked against the underside of her jaw. Freya carefully listened for the sounds of footsteps behind her as she ran. She thought she might have heard something, but it was very faint. She kept running just in case.
Freya's legs ached from running. She was still in the forest, weaving through the trees, marveling at the strange color of the plants. They were green! Green! Back on Quartan3, the plants were purple. When she first got here, she wasn't even sure that the green stuff everywhere was plant life. However, it smelled so much like plants that Freya decided they must be as such. She was tiring out. The green Zver tried to keep running, but she collapsed on the ground, dropping her pot. She panted, trying to regain her breath.
Please don't let them catch me, she mentally pleaded. I can't let them catch me!
It had been several minutes and Freya still had not heard any other footsteps. She was laying in a patch of small, identical plants with three leaves. There were a lot of them. Slowly regaining her energy, Freya stared at the plants, and began to count them.
Fifty-six, fifty-seven, fifty-what!? That plant has four leaves! Freya had always liked collecting strange things, although she had had to leave her collection back on her planet when the blue creatures came. She stared at the plant, turned to stare at the black pot that was laying on its side, and reached out and nipped the four-leafed oddity from its stem. She stuggled to her feet and carefully tipped the pot back onto its three short stumps. Freya opened her mouth, and let the plant drop into it. She picked the pot back up and, without the strength to run very fast, she set out into the forest to find something to stave off her hunger.
