Just finished Shinsekai yori...and I really didn't expect that it will be so so...I can't even explain...I started to watch it about a year ago but I really didn't immerse in the story so I dropped it...and two day ago something compelled me to try to watch it again...and now I'm shedding tear how much it stunned and touched me...from the story till art and sound...the story left me thinking about not just an anime, but the life and choices we make ourselves and outcome that blossom from our decisions...

*sobs*

Anybody else who has watched it?

Ye, another Shinsekai Yori fan! It's my favorite anime by far ^^ I just think it was so amazing how the story made a postmodern, fantastical world into an allegory for the present-day human society. It definitely gave me quite a bit to think about, so much that I couldn't sleep at night after watching particularly significant scenes in the anime! I can safely say that it's an anime that has changed how I look at the world in both a positive and negative way. that ending though that permanently messed me up but it was great
What I found interesting is that while I disliked Squealer, learning about the motives behind his actions made me question whether he should be considered the tragic hero or depraved antagonist of the story. In a lot of ways, the things that he did were completely justified.
spoiler-
especially considering that the monster rats could be seen as slaves oppressed by the humans. i thought it was terrible that the humans had manipulated the genetics of the ones that couldn't use magic in order to make servants for the new society.

I wouldn't consider FMA and Soul Eater oldies just yet. I only know Guardian of the Spirit as Moribito, but that's from 2007. I consider animes before 2000 oldies or at least before 2005.

Carnage. wrote:The main problem I face with older anime ( as in 80s- 90s ) is that they're mostly meca or some robot like thing involved with them.
I like more of the early 2000's

There are also:
Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind 1984
Castle in the Sky 1986
My Neighbor Totoro 1988 and Grave of the Fireflies
Kiki's Delivery Service 1989
Nadia and the Secret of Blue Water 1990
Only Yesterday 1991
Sailor Moon 1992
Porco Rosso 1992
Ocean Waves 1993
Pom Poko 1994
Whisper of the Heart 1995
Detectiv Conan start 1996
Princess Mononoke 1997
Kamikaze Kaito Jeanne 1998
My Neighbors the Yamadas 1999

So apart from the Ghibli movies I recommend Nadia and the Secret of Blue Water and Kamikaze Kaito Jeanne. Detective Conan is still ongoing and great.
I used to be online a lot here, but I became bored of this site and I don't like some of the rules here.
Now I'm pretty busy as well. You can still try to message me though, I might be online again now and then : )

Outlaw Star is one of my favorite anime <3

lol too many kids these days don't go back to watch the oldies, and they're missing out on some truly awesome anime, honestly!

Is it just me, or is nearly every anime that came out this decade really shiny?

it's quite different from the 2011 version, but it's rather interesting in its own way
several plot details are different and slight changes have been made to characters
but i would highly suggest it, i personally enjoyed it

the only anime from the 90's that i've seen is evangelion, if you don't count the ghibli movies. to be honest, i prefer p modern stuff

also ive been playing persona 4!! i love teddie and kanji a lot but should i watch the anime or nah. i also really like sayoko uehara, even if she's really minor so if the anime barely shows her i might destroy california
i understand all

Persona 4 is one of my favorite things. I have figures all over my room. I have Dojima and Adachi keychains and a Junes sticker on my car. I have cosplayed multiple characters from the series. WITH THAT ALL BEING SAID - the anime is pure garbage. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. The animation is awful, which is a shame because the cutscenes in the game are SO pretty y'know? And the pacing is just so awkward. P4A isnt TERRIBLY PAINFUL i mean its bad but you wont die. But I think The Golden anime could kill someone.

P4A is probably the most disappointing anime I've ever seen

(Btw Teddie and Kanji are my faves in P4 as well ^_^ )
