Flitter and I have a new headcannon I'd like to share with you, if you don't mind. It's about Spike.
I believe Spike was genetically engineered by Celestia.
Now before you guys freak out at me and everything, I'd like to present to you the information that makes me think this.
First off, we do not know the origin of Spike's egg, besides the fact that it was used in her entrance exam, which was for Celestia's school. This means Celestia would have given the egg to the people running the exam.
Second, Spike has no sign of wings. Before people say things like 'oh, well, he's just a baby, he can grow wings', I'd like to say he can't. It's not possible for his bone structure to change to accommodate wings. If he doesn't have them now, he'll never have them. The things on the sides of his head can't be wings, for the record, because they haven't ever moved and who has wings on their face? It's possible that he's a rare type of dragon, but all the dragons in Dragon Quest have wings. Perhaps Celestia removed his wings when he was still developing so that he would be unable to fly away?
Third, and most important, Spike can send letters using his fire. There should be no reason he can do this, as a spell would have been put on him as a very, very young dragon. Something that would have changed his fire to use as a portal to exactly where Celestia is. This spell would have to change him in some way to make him do this, because, as we see in It's About Time and countless other episodes such As Owl's Well That Ends Well and Over a Barrel, his fire does not always send things. It somehow recognizes that what he is sending is a letter, because in It's About Time, he burns a piece of paper with his fire by accident, and it doesn't go anywhere, it just burns. For the fire to recognize that what he is sending is a letter, he would have to think that it's a letter. This somehow changes his fire into a portal in which the letters are sent to Celestia, unharmed. Somehow Celestia has configured his brain so that his brainwaves connect to his fire in ways that can change what the fire does, not just the amount, like it would if he was a normal dragon. Here's the kicker, though. Celestia can send letter back using Spike as a portal. She can get letter to come out of his mouth, without him even knowing their coming when she first goes to send them. He only knows when they come when he's about to spit them out. She can transfer a physical object mentally or with a spell through another being. We have never seen evidence that another dragon can do this. If another dragon could, why couldn't Celestia send a letter to the sleeping dragon in Dragonshy?
The only logical explanation is that he is genetically engineered.
Now I'm not trying to make Celestia into Trollestia or anything, and I don't think that it was bad she did this. Most likely she got the dragon eggs from somewhere and was smart enough to figure out how to change them to better her kingdom. The dragons don't know they were changed and don't really care, because they're happy. {I assume everyone else who passed got a dragon egg too.} I think that she did generically engineer those dragons, including Spike, but she had no bad intentions in doing it.
What does everyone else think of this, I'd just like to know.
Sorry for the essay.
