thank u to everyone for answering so far!! im glad u guys like the questions, i tried to write them carefully so that there's some flow (related questions going together) but some breaks in between (specific/hard questions and then some easier/broader questions or vice versa), if that makes sense?
i was gonna answer my questionnaire in this post, but im sleepy rn, so i'll save it for next time orz

@squeegi has anyone ever told u the way u type is so cute (T_T also YESSS fable #368 is one of my recent faves too, odalis is so gorgeous that i keep coming back to stare at them.
totally agree w the potential of anniversary fables having one theme! i really like themed fables like the fishing event fables. all the fables artists have unique perspectives that carry into their designs, so seeing them follow one vague idea is always fun to me.
for ur question 14, i got so curious about luciano and giuseppe's relationship, so im glad that u expanded on it in later questions!! even if u wont elaborate on the magic artifact.. omg...
bells and reyes sound so cute together too (T_T
i really enjoy the lore prompt u linked, i loveee second person perspective + i love how much personality you injected in luciano's notebook, he's so funny LOL??

@BlueEyedKite i didnt realize that me referencing u in one of the q's would keep you from answering it, sorry orz
BUT it turned out good for me bc i could hear about the shadow god instead, so tyyyy
what im getting from these answers is that rath is a loser... but i love pitiful guys like him so YAY <3
cian and kleio are getting another set of twins?? WOW... im curious if ur excitement for the new autumn nursery is related to this?? the lore prompts u linked were so good.. my favorite lore prompt from u is the affection one, but the tapestry one is def a close second bc i love cian's inner voice. its pointedness fits the atmosphere of the action scene so well!
also i gasped when the link for nari's relationship led to kimera?? such an unexpected pairing but im so interested in where they go, bc nari is Evil and powerful, but kimera is so bright and clever.

    @hellevi me and u both liking fable m-13/cadere 🤝
LOVE how many mentions of the guardian is in ur answers. it reminds me of me with shuò, bc a lot of my lore hinges on him too. im looking forward to seeing how the guardian fits in ur lore and acts as its own character. im familiar w kvitka and huron's relationship bc i read ur storage before, so im excited to see why kvitka's most defining relationship would be to the guardian and not their son.
also the guardian's design is sooo gorgeous.. one thing i admire about your fables is that they have this consistent soft, nature aesthetic, and the guardian is similar, except it's darker and more mysterious bc of the covered eyes.
also i fee bad bc i love aries' story, but i forgot to mention him in my first questionnaire answers 😭 his story feels so hallow to me, it's def one of the stories i'd like to reread again and again. i tend to avoid rereading unless it's needed, so that means a lot coming from me orz

wahoo~ I will be blathering so, so much; I love lore questionnaires! All fables will link to their character pages whenever they're mentioned so it's easier to scroll through and skip around, I hope :'D I talk a lot...

Melonbread's questionnaire 2 answers ✧
  1. Now that the Summer Solace nursery opened, which nursery has been your favorite? Which reiteration are you looking forward to most next?
Hmm... looking forward to autumn maybe, since I missed it. I do like fishy traits though, so summer's been fun for me :] I wish I was less busy; I wanted to make more fishies!
  2. Have you found any new favorite fables in the time since the last questionnaire?
Extremely difficult to say! Off the top of my head, I can think of these? But every fable I see is beautiful c: my fellow artists work really hard! I'll continue to work hard too~

      Image Image Image Image Image

I'd also note that I especially love seeing RUs get revealed, especially if I won either the original comp or one of the RUs. I don't know how to articulate it specifically, but RU sets are like... not exactly siblings, but connected... relatives, conceptually? I'm explaining it really badly lol but when I see them it's like "oh :D that's my fable's design-sibling!" It feels kind of like when I try to catch up with the owners of my dog's littermates hahaha if you own a fable that's even a little bit related to one of mine, design-wise, 👋! Hello fellow uh... f-fable parent? No, that sounds weird.
  3. Do you think there are any similarities amongst your favorite fables, such as shared traits, colors, themes, or stories?
Hmm, it's really hard to say. I don't think there's any specific design element that I would consider my fave; I really like watching people develop their fables, I suppose? It's nice when people are happy and enthusiastic about writing or drawing and such, so I guess my favorites are just anything that people have put care into! I don't know if that's really a satisfying answer though, ahah. I will say that I'm particularly weak to characters that like to scheme?
  4. What kinds of fable prompts and/or design inspirations do you want to see next, or even repeated? (feel free to include pictures)
      🤐
  5. What would you like to see for the species' first anniversary?
      🤐
  6. Do you have any favorite lore prompts?
music prompt!! I love assigning songs to my characters, hehe
  7. Did you accomplish any of the plans you wrote about in the last questionnaire?
not even close LOL but I'm really happy with what I've accomplished, so I don't mind at all.
  8. Any updates on your fables, plans for fables, MYOs, new art, etc. that you want to share?
I've gotten several new fables since last time! I've really liked writing all of them, and I hope to continue developing them and their world into the future!

Image Image Image Image Image Image

For future plans... hmm, I think there are two? more characters that I'd really like to establish, the leaders of the remaining two guilds in my big central city-state. I'll think about filling out the rest of the world more later. I'm in no rush though, I've got plenty of writing and drawing to do already c:
  9. Do you have any guiding idea(s) or inspiration(s) for your fable lore? (like the abstract idea of gods, or inspiration from other media or your interests)
I feel like I retain a little bit of everything that catches my interest and inevitably amalgamate all of them into my writing 😅 I think in general I like stories about extraordinary creatures in extraordinary worlds having extremely ordinary problems and feelings, I suppose? A lot of my fables are really out there conceptually but at their core they're pretty normal and have deeply mundane beef with each other and such. It's fun to play with c:
  10. What kinds of groups exist in your fable lore? (guilds, herds, nobility, opposing political factions, etc.)
[wheeling out a really big chart] most of my world is smaller groups, like villages, maybe small towns, nomadic herds, even just individuals living out on their own. The big city-state in my lore, Desije, is kind of an outlier in the sense that it's the only place around that's densely-populated enough to really develop complicated factions and elaborate social systems and such. Its main players are four major merchant guilds, each with their own modus operandi and agendas, each ruled by a different noble house! They're all slightly different, but in general follow an organizational structure composed of a main family that authority is passed through, and branch families that are more distantly related lesser nobles. My fables Verela, the Sixth Price, Knize, and Rahma are all related to the Desijian guilds in some way or another!

There's also a region further to the north of the continent, a really dense grassland, where a bunch of small clans hide out and have been warring intermittently for several hundred years. They've kept some form of nobility as well, but it's a lot less stable over there. Yue Chen was the heir to an ancient clan in the region before The Incident, and Liujin was a warrior for the same clan before she caused The Incident.
  11. What time period does your fable world exist in?
Medieval-ish, mostly? There's definitely some technology mixed in that's a bit out of time. It's my fantasy world, so I guess I can do whatever I want with it :p
  12. What kind of technology is accessible to your fables?
Mostly the really classic high fantasy stuff, but Desije has the resources and scholars to come up with some more advanced things, like telephones (but only the wealthy can really afford those; they're mostly used by the upper nobles). I'd like to think about things like little ceramic automata or golems and such too? I don't know, it's really whatever I feel like.
  13. What architecture, landscapes, monuments, ruins, etc. decorate your fable world?
I've mostly only developed one continent, which I still haven't named, oops. There are a lot of landmarks that I've written about in the past, but in general I think of the whole continent as being roughly oval shaped, tapering toward the south, with a huge, dense mountain range covering a good chunk of the north. The mountains swing down and toward the center of the continent in a sort of crooked "C" shape, with the big grasslands in the crook of that curve, and then forests further south. The coast that the city is situated on is pretty far south, right along the southwestern edge of the continent, with the very end of it sticking out like a little curved tooth into the ocean.

A lot of the biggest and most impressive fable-made structures have been destroyed or lost to time, but some of them remain! Lighthouses and watchtowers, keeps both old and new, a couple really crazy temples, etc.. A lot of the ruins around the world are pretty mysterious; many are in dangerous locations, and others are so damaged that it's impossible to tell what they were used for. Due to the history of the world, most buildings are either really old or really new.
  14. What kind of governments control your lands? How involved are they? Do they have regulations on magic usage?
Most herds are pretty self-governing. Desije is once again an exception, because the city is pretty overbearing and extends its authority to the entire coast that it sits on. The government there is mostly composed of the guilds, with input from the local temple and academy. There's a lot of friction both inside and out, but it's worked so far. They're honestly super profit and power motivated and don't care about much else, so there's no real regulations on magic use unless you're destroying other people or their property.
  15. How long-lived are your fable(s)? Can fables obtain immortality in your world? (follow-up q: do fables have any persisting effects after death?)
They live an amount of time that I haven't figured out yet :x pretty long, probably, but not excessively so, and they're not immortal. A couple of mine have had their aging effectively paused, and a few others have had their aging slowed, but it's really rare for either of these things to happen, and they can still die by other means. They don't really persist in death, except in memory.
  16. Are there any common forms of ailments or deaths in your fables' world?
Large portions of the world are steeped in old, wild magic that can easily cause most fables to become sick and eventually die if they stay for too long. The magic makes the weather super unpredictable, and the sickness causes confusion, so it's incredibly dangerous for ordinary fables to venture into these places! Some fables have a mysterious condition that makes them resistant to it, and they're the only ones that can really navigate, study, or live in those areas. Most of them develop a semi-mythical reputation for it! My Perrin, Bellamy, Yeşim, and Satu are among these! Verela too but she uses it entirely for selfish reasons lol.
  17. What kind of taboos haunt your fables' world? (example: BlueEyedKite's lore forbidding blood magic)
None :] or at least, none universally. The world just isn't connected or unified enough for that. A lot of fables frown upon studying or using old magic, for example, because it's believed to be so dangerous. In much of the world it's thought of as something that was not meant to be tampered with, and the reason for the downfall of the ancients. In a place like Desije though, it's more of a mystery waiting to be unraveled, where study of it is encouraged in the hopes that it'll advance progress, etc.
  18. Does your world have an origin story? Does its in-world depiction differ from the actual lore?
Hmm, I'd say there isn't really a specific origin story. It's just always been there.
  19. What other kinds of creatures do fables interact with and/or live amongst in your world?
A mix of ordinary and fantastical animals! Most of them are non-sapient; fables are largely the only intelligent species around. Some animals end up gaining intelligence somehow, and there's the rare dragon or two wandering around, but that's mostly it.
  20. How do others in your fable world perceive your fable(s)?
    • Perrin could probably count on one hand the number of full conversations that he's had in the past decade. He's a recluse, most people don't know him, and the ones that do spot him usually think it's their eyes playing tricks on them, seeing ghosts beneath the old trees.
    • Bellamy is also a loner but paradoxically kind of an extrovert about it. Most others think he's just a ghost story, but meeting him is regarded as good luck. So, even if his tendency to appear out of nowhere at nightfall is kind of scary, he's usually welcomed.
    • Liujin lies constantly: either people believe her and think she's the coolest ever, or they don't and think she's a dishonest person that should be avoided at all costs. Both are honestly correct so it's kind of a win/win somehow???
    • Almost everyone likes Verela! She comes off as really kind and sweet. In fact, most are especially nice to her ever since that whole tragic death of her rich and powerful husband thing...
    • Yeşim's pretty eccentric, so a lot of her fellow fables don't quite know what to do with her, especially if they come from more formal cultures like Desije. She's a nice person though, so ultimately well-liked, or at least intriguing due to how open she is about her experiences.
    • Satu's pretty timid still, but she's been getting bolder over time. She mostly cares for her own herd, but she's not hostile to others or anything. She's seen as a bit strange and rather superstitious, but ultimately reliable.
    • Lefwin's a pretty polite lad that's generally well-liked by others. He's vaguely off-putting in a way that's hard to place though, like he stands too still and doesn't blink quite often enough to seem natural? So others are friendly, but keep him at arm's length, so to speak.
    • The Sixth Price's mask distorts their voice and obscures their expression, and they're a kind of weird fable to begin with. Pretty friendly, but cryptic at times, and it's basically their entire job to know things that no one else does. Inevitably most others are just scared of them, but they're well-liked and widely-supported within their guild.
    • Yue Chen is a good person that is this 🤏 close to their breaking point. They're nice enough to not take it out on innocent people though, so they're usually pretty kind and friendly towards others, with a strong sense of justice. Since they spent so long as a statue, their accent and mannerisms are a bit archaic, however. They're generally perceived as a slightly odd, but pleasant person. Heroic, even, with a melancholy that never leaves their eyes...
    • Knize is tired and would like to go home, but if you need something done they either know someone, or know someone that knows someone. Very polite and thoughtful, pleasant enough, but always seems busy.
    • Rahma is widely regarded as intimidatingly competent. She's incredibly professional and poised. Terrifying.
  21. Do you have any symbols, motifs, or even emojis that you associate with your fable(s)?
I don't, actually! Aside from the obvious, I guess; snakes for Liujin, Yue Chen's dragon and pinned moth, fox and moon for Satu, and mackerel for Rahma. I also more distantly associate Verela with wolves and Knize with sea nettles!
  22. What does your fable(s) consider most precious, materially and/or ideologically?
Wealth and power for the guild lot, regrettably. The Sixth Price are Knize are a bit more nuanced, prizing knowledge and stability. It's a range for the rest. Bellamy strives always for new experiences, despite paradoxically also being ideologically bound to a single location. Perrin lives only to maintain his eternal vigil over a land and people that he believes he failed: the eternal atonement in his mind is not necessarily even duty that he values, but more like... decency, or simply the right thing to do? As a theologian, Yeşim's dedicated to knowledge, or perhaps, more specifically, understanding. Satu and Lefwin both are really motivated by freedom and curiosity, not necessarily knowledge, but the ability to experience the world. The most precious things in Liujin's life are her sword and the snake, her friend. She doesn't actually have a very fancy ideology, though the snake also prizes knowledge, and, importantly, kindness. Yue Chen, like I mentioned, has a really strong sense of justice. I also think the bond that they have (or had) with Liujin remains really precious to them, even after everything that happened between them.
  23. What sizes does your fable(s) come in? (feel free to include heights for human form too)
I actually got halfway through drawing a height chart a while back, and then I got distracted and never finished it, wheeze. I can list them in rough order of tallest to shortest?
      • The Sixth Price is really tall, effectively the largest a fable can naturally be. They've always been large, it's actually not one of their magical mutations! They were kind of a jock when they were young?
      • Liujin is noticeably tall. She actually used to be shorter than Yue Chen, but this ended up being simply because she was a few years younger. It actually caused some fuss when she hit her growth spurt and ended up taller than them; it being improper for one of her rank to be taller than the clan heir and all that, but most of the clan elders would just find anything to criticize her over anyway. She's pretty well-muscled, so she'd actually be kind of intimidating if she ever wanted to show it.
      • Perrin is actually on the taller end, but he's a crinkly old guy and has the world's worst posture so he doesn't look all that tall.
      • On the flip side of the coin, Yeşim is actually only slightly taller than average but she looks way taller because she's got long legs and is kind of gangly.
      • Bellamy is roughly the same height as Yeşim! Just slightly taller than average. It can be hard to tell his true height because he likes to be unnecessarily mysterious, however.
      • Yue Chen is roughly average height, maybe a hair above. They do take up a bit more space due to their horns though.
      • Lefwin is average height, though his horn definitely makes him look taller.
      • Knize is also average height! Just like the other two, his horns make him look a bit taller, though his don't stick up quite as much as Lefwin or Yue Chen's.
      • Yet again, Rahma is of average height. Without the benefit of large horns, she probably looks the shortest of the 'normal height gang'
      • Verela's just a bit shorter than average.
      • Satu is teeny. She's basically the minimum size a fable can naturally be in my world.
  24. Has your fable(s) encountered any life-changing events? How did your fable(s) react to them?
A couple of them have had really dramatic life events! Satu gaining her moonfire, for example, giving her the confidence to forge her own path, or Verela seizing power after her husband's passing. Perrin got locked into a sort of stasis for a long time and by the time he woke up, his entire civilization had been destroyed and everyone that he knew was dead, so he reacted honestly pretty appropriately and dedicated himself to an eternity of mourning.

And uh. Well, Yue Chen and Liujin were inseparable friends from childhood, but a variety of complicated factors led Liujin to er... kill Yue Chen. They both got super cursed (enchanted?) due to it, so they both ended up getting turned into statues and fused with magical reptiles, and they both eventually woke up at the same time. Oops! Some destinies are inescapable, and they are bound to each other, as enemies, friends, lovers?! or both/all? forever now. My beloved trainwreck of a situationship c:

As for how they reacted, Liujin did what she always does with her problems, which is kind of just... run away from the mess and hope it never caught up to her. I've called her a world champion of avoidance before and I stand by it. Yue Chen was a bit more lucid in the time they spent as a statue, so they had the time to think through and process the whole thing. They don't even blame Liujin for it (the dragon that they are fused with. has a very different perspective), but at the same time the ones that they believe are responsible are all long-dead, so there's no way for them to correct the perceived wrongs. It's really frustrating for them, and between that and the whole getting stabbed thing, they did come back different... more bitter, more angry, just a touch cold when they used to be so incredibly bright and warm. They're still dealing with it all way better though; Liujin is afraid of even trying to process what happened really.
  25. What does your fable(s) look at their lowest and/or best?
Continuing to yap about Liujin because I think she's had the most substantial arc so far! She used to be (and in a lot of ways still is) kind of a huge coward, and with incredibly low self-esteem. She got pressured into betraying her best friend because others convinced her that she would never amount to anything if she stayed, so she might as well make herself useful on the way out, and it ended up appealing to her persistent desire to just run away from difficult situations. I think the tragedy of it is that Yue Chen truly believed in and admired her a lot, but because she was never able to believe that for herself she ended up destroying that relationship.

When I was writing the original entry form for Liujin, I had this whole theme thought out about how she liked to brag and bluff a lot, partially because if people believed her she would get preferential treatment, and partially because she just wanted it to be true, but when things got even slightly difficult she immediately prepared to run away. It was the snake that convinced her to stay behind and fight for something that she truly cared about for once in her life, and in the end it turned out she did have the strength and skill to back it up. So when the snake ended up grafting itself to her to replace her shattered spine, it was like a literal signal of the way it figuratively helped her to grow a spine too. Like a mirror moment of folding to fear and uncertainty vs being brave enough to stand your ground, even if or especially if you need help to do it? I hope the metaphor came through to those that read it :'D
  26. What kind of figure or goal guides your fable(s)?
They've all got their own goals and aspirations! I feel like I've blathered about them a lot already, haha, so I won't repeat myself here. I strive not to confirm or deny any deities in my world; I think it makes it more interesting to write.
  27. Does your fable(s) have any kind of work or specialty? (being an heir to an herd, having a special talent for metalwork, etc.)
      All of them do c:
    • Perrin's a necromancer, perhaps the last true master of the art. The knowledge died with the ancients, with him being the only survivor, and he is not inclined to teach it. He's the last of an ancient noble house, but with his herd gone and the empire that they had served collapsed, he thinks of himself less as a lord, and more as a steward to what remains.
    • Bellamy's your friendly(?) local desert guide/good luck charm! His motivations are kind of mysterious, but he's also the sole expert on the desert that he inhabits. He also knows a lot of things that he shouldn't.
    • Liujin has now spent most of her life as a sellsword taking odd jobs for money. She's incredibly skilled with a sword, and her weapon is a masterwork whose crafting methods have been lost to time, but she doesn't like to show it off—draws too much attention. In recent years, she's been spending a lot of time basically ferrying the snake around to help it study whatever it wants.
    • Verela's full-time job is being a mean girl. Verela is the head of Guild Lykora, fourth among the great guilds, making her therefore fourth among the Golden Lords of Desije.
    • Yeşim's a theologian, one of very few in the world, and certainly the most prolific! She's a super dedicated scholar, and a hobbyist poet.
    • Satu been the guide and guardian of her herd ever since the whole moonfire thing. Both for spiritual reasons, as the herd worships the sun and moon as their primary gods, but also because, practically, her bright light is super eye-catching and keeps everyone safe at night.
    • Lefwin's a bit of an apothecary, but he was never really "professionally" trained or anything. His occupation is... explorer? Vagabond? He would probably tell people that his job is "adventurer" and they would go "hm" and mentally note "unemployed" or something. He's actually kind of a weird amalgam of life and death magic due to Perrin making a bit of a mistake, so he's kind of an anomaly? Is that a skill??
    • The Sixth Price is the head of Guild Yaucnal, third of Desije's great guilds. It gets a bit confusing for outsiders—The Sixth Price, the Third Golden Lord? Theirs is a guild that specializes in information-gathering.
    • Yue Chen was the heir of an ancient war-clan on the western cusp of the northern grasslands! Thanks to someone stabbing them in the back a long time ago, they now have a very powerful (and frankly rather disgruntled) dragon's body and soul fused to them. They were and still are a master of the spear; in fact they always synergized really well with Liujin's sword's shorter reach. It's been harder for them to adjust to fighting alone, but they're skilled enough to make up for it. They just miss their bestie.
    • Knize's a bit of a freelance diplomat? He's good at making friends, noticing what people care about and what they like and dislike, and smoothing ruffled tempers when necessary. He does a lot of talking between nobles when they're not entirely on speaking terms. It's a pretty stressful job.
    • Rahma's an envoy of Guild Sarqhir, the largest and most prosperous of the Desijian guilds on account of controlling the sea, which is important for a trading port city. They've always had a somewhat rocky relationship with the land fables and the temple, so Rahma was more or less born and raised solely to keep things calm between them. She's an upper noble of the house.
  28. How does your fable(s) impact and/or interact with the world around them? (feel free to interpret this however way you want)
A bit like humans would in another story, I suppose! They don't have any special connection to nature, and don't to any terraforming or anything, at least not on a large scale. They just live there, and sometimes they build things. Sometimes someone really messes up and makes a fireball that burns down half a forest, but humans do that too, you know?
  29. Does your fable(s) have any connections to their local government? If not, are they loyal to any specific group(s)?
The guild fables do, each to their specific guild and house! The rest are much more independent.
  30. What is your fable(s)' most defining relationship? (one per fable, preferably [evil laugh])
      ou.. ok boss!
      • Perrin has neither friends nor family, not living ones anyway. The skeletons that he animates can't think or feel; memories are his only companion now. In the past, it was probably the captain of the guard at the keep, or perhaps his parents?
      • Bellamy's another eccentric loner. He's commonly called "the friend of travelers"; I suppose he's friends with everyone that travels the desert road. He doesn't have very permanent relationships though.
      • Liujin... no points for guessing genuinely a tie between Yue Chen in the past, and the snake in the present. They've both played huge roles in making her who she is today. Yue Chen was the one that rescued her off the streets and taught her how to fight, but it was the snake that helped her find real purpose. In some way the guilt from betraying her first friend set her up to finally being able to gather her resolve to save her second, but it's hard to say.
      • Verela's most important relationship was the one with her late husband, given she was just a commoner before. He was the head of the house and leader of the guild, positions that he passed to her when he conveniently died :) onwards and upwards, as they say
      • For Yeşim, it'd probably be... her parents? They love and support her, even if they don't entirely get her studies. Honestly this one's a bit weak, maybe she needs a friend :'D or like an academic rival or something
      • Satu's most defining relationship is easily with the moon. She's draws guidance and confidence from Her: it was to the moon that she turned in her hour of deepest uncertainty.
      • Lefwin's is easily his brother! Juno is his lighthouse, the beacon that leads him home no matter how far he wanders.
      • The Sixth Price's is their grandfather, the previous (Fifth) Price of the guild. The Fifth was the one that nominated them to be their heir after a grueling trial out in the wild desert, taught them all they needed to know... and er, got rid of all the competition to secure the succession. It resulted in a really unusual upbringing. Noble dramatics, right?
      • Also no points for guessing Yue Chen. It's Liujin for the most part; the dragon that they were fused with is actually fairly similar to them in terms of demeanor, so they didn't change as drastically over it. The dragon, however, does not have the same context that Yue Chen does regarding Liujin, and absolutely blames her for the whole ordeal. Here's a very rough relationship chart that I doodled up for them a while back! Clear as mud, yes? In a lot of ways Liujin helped Yue Chen to define their values: that they would resist the opinions of their betters to defend their friend, and that status mattered less than skill. Her betrayal highlighted the fact that they had been ignorant to the turmoil in a person that they had cared deeply about, and that there were perspectives out there that they had never considered: they have learned to be more observant and careful going forward.
Fun fact, one of the first things Yue Chen did upon waking was track down Liujin and attempt to return her old sword to her: the one that had been used to impale both them and the dragon, and remained stuck in their body for the long years they spent in stony slumber. Needless to say, she didn't want anything to do with it anymore, and in fact interpreted it as a threat.
      • Knize's got a lot of important relationships and connections, but his most defining is probably also his parents? They overcame their guildship differences to live happily together; it really impressed in him growing up that building harmony was more important than faction loyalties.
      • Rahma's birth and education were tailored by Sarqhir's leadership to fulfill a specific role. She came out sooo normal after having her personality, future, and to an extent form pre-determined for her by others. So normal. I don't have a leader of Guild Sarqhir yet, but when that fable arrives...

Re: ✧ Fable Fanclub ✧ discord pg.23

Postby Woodchip » Sat Aug 23, 2025 8:04 pm

Thank you ruse for putting your time into making this questionnaire, I had a lot of fun answering them!! Helped me get a few more perspectives and potential directions to go in for my lore!

Woodchip's questionnaire 2 answers ✧

  1. Now that the Summer Solace nursery opened, which nursery has been your favorite? Which reiteration are you looking forward to most next?
So far, my favourite has been the spring nursery! I'm just a big fan of most of the themes of the fables from that one! I am super excited for the autumn nursery, autumn is definitely my favourite season colours and themes wise. I and so so excited to see the autumn themes with all of the new traits!!

  2. Have you found any new favorite fables in the time since the last questionnaire?
    YES OF COURSE
There are so many, but I will list some of my absolute favourites- (so hard to choose, I had to narrow the list down by so much aaaa)
    This current comp
    feverrr's calypso
    Ucanthandleme's Lore
    kaisisles' wuyi
    ilya's Kaligo
    Nellas' Calidris
    Waverly's Itaiz

  3. Do you think there are any similarities amongst your favorite fables, such as shared traits, colors, themes, or stories?
For sure, I think I'm drawn to more warmer designs (I see a lot of off white in my favourites haha)? idk I just like whatever colours make me happy (I'm also a very very big fan of iridescence and glowing effects)

  4. What kinds of fable prompts and/or design inspirations do you want to see next, or even repeated? (feel free to include pictures)
I want more bird fable, I love bird fable.

  5. What would you like to see for the species' first anniversary?
Seconding squeegi's idea, I love it!

  6. Do you have any favorite lore prompts?
The void one, I don't know what possessed me to write so much for it.

  7. Did you accomplish any of the plans you wrote about in the last questionnaire?
I said I wanted to fully flesh out my world, I am getting closer, but I am nowhere near close to it. It's definitely something I need to work on long term, but I am at least making some progress!

  8. Any updates on your fables, plans for fables, MYOs, new art, etc. that you want to share?
I've been so bad at actually getting stuff done, so nothing to share, but I have things I want to work on. I really need to get some coding on my fable's profiles, but profile coding is not my thing. Definitely plan to make at least one MYO, but for now I want to refrain from getting more fables until I work on building the ones I currently have. (I AM SO BAD AT THIS, THE FABLES TEMPT ME EVERY TIME HELP)

  9. Do you have any guiding idea(s) or inspiration(s) for your fable lore? (like the abstract idea of gods, or inspiration from other media or your interests)
Honestly, the idea behind my fables is probably an amalgamation of all of the media I've consumed, but I couldn't point the inspiration to anything specific. I think I'm just going with the flow of whatever my brain wants to do.

  10. What kinds of groups exist in your fable lore? (guilds, herds, nobility, opposing political factions, etc.)
They have groups, but the groups really mean little when it comes to relationships between the fables. In my current lore, there are very few fables in this world, so they avoid conflict between themselves.
The Oathbound- Fables who are dedicated protecting the herd through combat (It's more relevant in the beginning of my fable's lore, and they kind of disband but not really)
The Circle of the Ivy Heart- This is where most of the fables will belong, they are the ones who create and restore. (It is also the central part of the fablelands, surrounding an area that I will not mention quite yet since I'm still working on it.)
Oculi Memoriae- An archive containing the history of the fables, maintained by only a few fables.
There are more groups than this, but this is all I have so far.

  11. What time period does your fable world exist in?
I have no clue just yet, it's an issue I've been thinking about. My fable lore is all over the place when it comes to time period, it's because they experience time different from all different creatures. They are magical constructs that don't wear down with age, and I have fables that are created many generations (of humans) apart. It wouldn't make sense for the humans of this world to be stuck in one time period right??? So idk :(( Maybe I'll figure out where they start off and go from there.

  12. What kind of technology is accessible to your fables?
My fables are the technology. But also they don't have much outside of that, just the magic that they have. This magic is however capable of whatever they want as long as they figure it out.

  13. What architecture, landscapes, monuments, ruins, etc. decorate your fable world?
I am not great at imagining landscapes, so I will need to eventually figure it out and draw it. My fables don't really have architecture, they live in the nature, but these places are also created by the fable's magic. They kind of just take inspiration from the real world and put it in theirs. Fables are a lot larger than the other creatures of this planet, so they distorted some space to make it larger than it really is. If something were to make their way into the fablelands, then they would be in awe at how big everything is.

  14. What kind of governments control your lands? How involved are they? Do they have regulations on magic usage?
The fables swear an oath when they are created, those are the rules they follow. They kind of just... can't break these rules, it's ingrained into their being to not break them. These rules are a safeguard from the original creator, new oaths can be added on, but it won't be as strong as the originals. The additional oaths are decided by the fable community as a whole. (got to remember that there's not a lot of them, and they have similar goals) I can see them creating some kind of government later down the line, so we'll see when I get there!

  15. How long-lived are your fable(s)? Can fables obtain immortality in your world? (follow-up q: do fables have any persisting effects after death?)
They live forever as long as their core is intact. If they die, then they return to the material they were created from. This material actually retains the memories of the fable that it used to be, fables can use their magic to read these memories. These memories can also deteriorate as the structure breaks down. (For example, Ena my bread fable will probably keep the memories for like 3 days lol)

  16. Are there any common forms of ailments or deaths in your fables' world?
Mostly just physical trauma, they don't get sick or anything. There are probably rare cases of fables malfunctioning or something? (haven't written anything about that yet tho)

  17. What kind of taboos haunt your fables' world? (example: BlueEyedKite's lore forbidding blood magic)
Creating a fable with dead fable's body is a big no no (in Odalis' case it was an accident), it's confusing to the resulting fable and just generally avoided because of that.

  18. Does your world have an origin story? Does its in-world depiction differ from the actual lore?
I actually touched on the fable's origin story here! It's definitely not a real depiction, and the real story is similar, but also different and more complex. (I will also proceed to not write what the true story is because I'm lazy)

  19. What other kinds of creatures do fables interact with and/or live amongst in your world?
All kinds of creatures! Fables can speak to other creatures through magic, but the creatures need to have been around fables for a while to be able to communicate anything complex. Fables find companions all the time, and a companion can be any living creature :)

  20. How do others in your fable world perceive your fable(s)?
Okay so imagine a deer the size of a house walks up to you...
Most creatures don't actually know fables exist (after Ayoka did her thing), but when they did know of the fables, it was mostly fear of the big scary creatures that came out of nowhere.

  21. Do you have any symbols, motifs, or even emojis that you associate with your fable(s)?
mmm I do have some for specific fables like eyes for all of my eye fables, spiders for Century, flowers for Ena.

  22. What does your fable(s) consider most precious, materially and/or ideologically?
They consider bonds between eachother to be the most important thing. Would kind of suck to have a bad relationship with another fable you need to be around for thousands of years.

  23. What sizes does your fable(s) come in? (feel free to include heights for human form too)
I'm glad I figured this out right before artfight!
Using human measurements (from the very bottom, to like shoulder height)
    Ištaran & Nirah - 4.6m
    Century - 3m
    Odalis - 4.9m
    Ayoka - 1.6m
    Wyn - 5.6m
    Ophir - 3.5m
    Ena - 3.3m
    Osiris - 3.8m
    Imara - 4.8m
    Kova - 2.4m
I don't even have a fable that's truly large yet! (I will create city fable some day)
All of my fables here if you want to see their info

  24. What kind of figure or goal guides your fable(s)?
Mu (the origin of all of my fables) is the main guide, her original plans is what the fablelands became, and they continue to follow her direction. They think of her as kind of a mother figure?

  25. Does your fable(s) have any kind of work or specialty? (being an heir to an herd, having a special talent for metalwork, etc.)
Yes! They're all created with a role in mind, they will not always end up following that role in the end, but normally the magic they unlock after being created is centered around that specific role. It's 100% possible for fables to evolve and change their specialties though.

  26. How does your fable(s) impact and/or interact with the world around them? (feel free to interpret this however way you want)
Very specific interpretation, but my fables have a big impact on magic in this world. Fables can essentially convert any type to magic to fable magic (also referred to as old magic). When my fables entered this world, they entirely shifted the balance of magic. Most living creatures passively create magic, while fables consume magic. Other than a few surviving immortal magical creatures, there have been no more born since Mu entered. (Magical creatures are born randomly when magic accumulates in an area, they can originate from any species)

  27. Does your fable(s) have any connections to their local government? If not, are they loyal to any specific group(s)?
Nope! My fables have no loyalties outside of themselves.

  28. What is your fable(s)' most defining relationship? (one per fable, preferably [evil laugh])
Trying to answer this question made me realize how terrible I am at actually writing relationships into my lore. I'll try to do more of the in the future haha
Ištaran & Nirah - Themselves ofc (and is the closest to Mu)
Century - There one spider that she's friends with (all the other ones are the spider's kids)
    Odalis - Maelin... and Ayoka
    Ayoka - Her human friend
    Wyn - His mentor/creator
Ophir - Has a close relationship with Wyn's mentor (they used to travel together)
Ena - The humans by the flower field, even though they don't remember her :(
Osiris - Used to be friends with a magical beast who later on cursed her
Imara - Haven't written about her much yet, but I plan for her to have a companion who was apart of the Oathbound.
Kova - Has a companion he does everything with. (not a real fable yet)(His name is Dmitry)

Also thank you for the kind comments on Odalis, I love them so much too. I know this is silly, but I'm feeling so intimidated about drawing them since I don't know if I'll be able to translate the design well enough

questionare time yayyyyy! Thanks Ruse!

(I still have to do my #400 entry and I have a new fable to develop, but questions are fun, can't resist hehehe)

[ylesia]'s questionnaire 2 answers ✧
  1. Now that the Summer Solace nursery opened, which nursery has been your favorite? Which reiteration are you looking forward to most next?
Both Autumn and Winter. Autumn because spooky, Winter because big and fluffy.
  2. Have you found any new favorite fables in the time since the last questionnaire?
ImageImageImage and I'll stop here, but there are many many many more I love
  3. Do you think there are any similarities amongst your favorite fables, such as shared traits, colors, themes, or stories?
It is mainly just the design that speaks to me. I'm not a fan of overly complicated designs so if it's simple and possibly inspired by nature I'm in.
  4. What kinds of fable prompts and/or design inspirations do you want to see next, or even repeated? (feel free to include pictures)
I love lore prompt that help me develop geography and history of my world. Landmark, biomes, important events of the past...
  5. What would you like to see for the species' first anniversary?
Oh, first anniversary, I didn't realise... Maybe a small mini event like the fishing one (that was super fun by the way)? I love guessing games so something similar but with a birthday cake whose ingredient are unknown and we have to guess
  6. Do you have any favorite lore prompts?
I kinda answered above, but I also love the long prompts. The sea adventure one fit perfectly with a part of a story I am (still) working on so it was a very nice surprise.
  7. Did you accomplish any of the plans you wrote about in the last questionnaire?
Devon is REAAAAAL. I didn't write it in the questionnaire, but I also wrote about Fenix rebirth which was something I really wanted to do.
  8. Any updates on your fables, plans for fables, MYOs, new art, etc. that you want to share?
So... My Herds are definitely bigger now. I have 9 Herds mainly based on biomes and so far all but 2 (Island and Woodland) have a fable in them. My plan is to 'find' at least one fable for each of the missing Herds, but I'm using my MYOs which are very simple designs (I0m doing them and I'm nowhere near good as fable artists) to 'fill the holes' in my lore with characters I need for relationships. I also want to make human refs for all my fables, but that's along way to go.
  9. Do you have any guiding idea(s) or inspiration(s) for your fable lore? (like the abstract idea of gods, or inspiration from other media or your interests)
Not that I'm aware of. My fables are sort of guardians that had to bring peace after a very cruel war that almost destroyed all living creatures, but I have no idea of where I took inspiration for it.
  10. What kinds of groups exist in your fable lore? (guilds, herds, nobility, opposing political factions, etc.)
9 Herds! (Plains, Peaks, Desert, Woodland, Swamp, Beach, Hills, River, Island). They don't have strict hierarchies, but the elders are respected and are usually the ones that takes decisions.
  11. What time period does your fable world exist in? Many periods. I plan to add fables that don't live in the same time as the ones I have now. Adding to this, Fenix is almost immortal (he was a third gen fable in my lore, all the others are after the tenth generation) and Oisin (Devon) was a third generation fable as well but came back in the recent time.
  12. What kind of technology is accessible to your fables?
    No technology, just **magic**.
  13. What architecture, landscapes, monuments, ruins, etc. decorate your fable world?
Oh, Ruins! I have The Ruins, a place in the Arid Desert where once rose magnificent building destroyed after the Cruel War (the one after which fables were created). It's a place permeated with magic and I'm quite obsessed with it (It's the location of all my milestone fables entries).
  14. What kind of governments control your lands? How involved are they? Do they have regulations on magic usage?
Non government, but magic usage is strictly regulated by ancient creatures called the Ancients (lmao, yes, please, don't comment). Some of the third/fourth gen fables abuse the illimitate magic powers they had (ehm Oisin ehm) and for a while fables were powerless. Now their magic is restricted to just one ability and achieved through their live once they prove worthy of it)
  15. How long-lived are your fable(s)? Can fables obtain immortality in your world? (follow-up q: do fables have any persisting effects after death?)
They live more or less a thousand years, but years are 800 days. Almost immortal, yes. However, when they die they go to the Otherworld, a place bound to Draeridia. There are fables (2 in my herds so far) that can reach/communicate with that dimension, so fables from the past wouldn't be lost forever.
  16. Are there any common forms of ailments or deaths in your fables' world?
Feble can die of old age, illness, accident, all that stuff. They are very mortal indeed. There are no big predators in Draeridia, but some super tiny fable (like B) might be scared of small carnivores that could potentially eat them.
  17. What kind of taboos haunt your fables' world? (example: BlueEyedKite's lore forbidding blood magic)
After the Fall that deprived fables of power for a period, anyone suggesting abuse of magic is punished. There's no real taboo though, nature is a huge part of their lives and if something exists there's no shame to talk about it.
  18. Does your world have an origin story? Does its in-world depiction differ from the actual lore?
As far as we know, Draerida always existed and forever will. But this is something I should think about, I mean, the Ancients are the first ones to live, but they must have come from somewhere.
  19. What other kinds of creatures do fables interact with and/or live amongst in your world?
Well well, I have the Ancients (there's a dragon, a leviathan, a crow and other creatures) I also included in the world one of my ocs, Balboig, but I didn't write any interaction of the fearful boy with my fables yet. The story of Niben and Pebon is something I'm quite proud of. I also have fairies, nymphs and all the real world critters you can think of (I have a lot of biomes, so name something and probly there's room for them).
  20. How do others in your fable world perceive your fable(s)?
Fables are (generally) kind and wise creature, they are guardians of world peace and all other creatures respect them. The Ancients are more powerful though and treat them as their own creation (which is true, fables were created by them, especially the wise Crow).
  21. Do you have any symbols, motifs, or even emojis that you associate with your fable(s)?
    Well...
    - B: 🦋
    - Abhean: 🎵
    - Blodewuedd: 🦉
    - Elise: 🌼
    - Everett: 🪨
    - Fenix: 🐦‍🔥
    - Iacuna: ⚕️
    - Nereus: 🐋
    - Nimue: ⚰️
    - Devon / Oisin: ⚔️
    - Umina: 🌿
    - Yarra: 🐁 (I have to work on her lore, but she is similar to Umina, just replace plants with small cute critters)
  22. What does your fable(s) consider most precious, materially and/or ideologically?
    Tradition, their loved ones, peace.
  23. What sizes does your fable(s) come in? (feel free to include heights for human form too)
They range from pony (Umina is as big as a shetland pony, Nereus is bigger but still pony size) to huge draft horse/deer (Everett is massive, Oisin almost as big) . In their human form they are just normal humans.
  24. Has your fable(s) encountered any life-changing events? How did your fable(s) react to them?
    - Oisin literally died and then was reborn after he acknowledged his mistakes.
    - Nereus and B built a very strong friendship during an adventure (it's not complete yet) and Nereus acquired a new form (whale) to which he can shape-shift.
    - Blodewuedd lost her wings to save a life.
    - Fenix was chosen as the companion of the Dragon and is now basically immortal (phoenix style: he rise from his ashes).
    Not developed yet but...
    - Iacuna once loved but her lover betrayed her.
    - Abhean was the victim of lies told by someone he trusted blindly.
  25. What kind of figure or goal guides your fable(s)?
They all basically want to get better at what they most love in order to help their herd mates with their abilities. Most of them are super altruistic.
  26. Does your fable(s) have any kind of work or specialty? (being an heir to an herd, having a special talent for metalwork, etc.)
Each of my fables has a special power granted by magic (It's all on their pages).
  27. What is your fable(s)' most defining relationship? (one per fable, preferably [evil laugh])
    - Nereus and B are adventure buddies and best friends.
    - Umina and Yarra are lovers
    - Nimue and Oisin are lovers (Well, Oisin loves Nimue madly, the lady's feelings are not that deep though)
    - Iacuna has few friends and Umina is one of those. Iacuna once loved someone but her lover abandoned her.
    - Elise and Everett are that kind of friends that love to spend time together doing fancy stuff
    - Fenix has social anxiety and lives with the Dragon on a deserted island
    - Blodeuwedd has a pet barn owl and she has given up her wings to save him.
    - Abhean looks like a cheerful Casanova, but he doesn't trust anyone and his heart truly knowns only vengeance.

    Kett's questionnaire 2 answers ✧
+ link to my first questionnaire

    1. Now that the Summer Solace nursery opened, which nursery has been your favorite? Which reiteration are you looking forward to most next?
🐇🐇 spring was still my favourite but I'm looking forward to autumn!! I don't really want a halloween themed baby, but it's arguably my favourite season vibes-wise, and I was also born in October. c: I'm looking forward to fables with falling leaves, branch-like horns, and cloudy/foggy colours and patterns 💛

    2. Have you found any new favorite fables in the time since the last questionnaire?
big big fan of the sharp lure fishie, melon's knize, and vel's bells. little bunny baby I'm absolutely obsessed
      ImageImageImage

    3. Do you think there are any similarities amongst your favorite fables, such as shared traits, colors, themes, or stories?
currently, all of my own fables have horns, I think I naturally gravitate to ones that do since they come in so many cool and creative shapes! I like a little contrast in colour (ex/ muted colours + saturated colours, analogous colours + one accent colour) and longer tails!

    4. What kinds of fable prompts and/or design inspirations do you want to see next, or even repeated?
      🙇‍♀️

    5. What would you like to see for the species' first anniversary?
      🙇‍♀️

    6. Do you have any favorite lore prompts?
the music prompt was my fave just because I love anything music adjacent, it was fun to have the freedom to get creative!

    7. Did you accomplish any of the plans you wrote about in the last questionnaire?
uhhh uhhh I'm still not done the art 😭 I did at least set up a code + human form in everyone's toyhouse profiles though, so that's something! and maigue has a proper human ref! baby steps
      Image

    8. Any updates on your fables, plans for fables, MYOs, new art, etc. that you want to share?
Ciron and Hanshen has joined the roster since my last post! Ciron's my pseudo-Byronic hero unicorn prince, and Hanshen is a wip but I'm thinking he'll be the charismatic and handsome new advisor of Herd W——, Gong Wu's birth herd. as for future plans, I don't really have any? I test out designs when inspiration strikes but often time don't end up keeping them if I don't spawn any character ideas. I've been trying to make a bunny fable but I'm not sure what I want really 😭😭 I prefer getting surprised but I also want new characters to develop with my friends ^^
      ImageImage

    9. Do you have any guiding idea(s) or inspiration(s) for your fable lore? (like the abstract idea of gods, or inspiration from other media or your interests)
usually I get inspiration from whatever media I've consumed lately, and I have a playlist of art inspo songs that I sometimes assign theme songs from! Hanshen is still a massive work in progress, but his starting ideas were inspired by When I Can't Make You Mine, the vibes of the intro and the lyric "do I stink of jealousy or pride" hueheue
there exists group(s) of deities who can interact with mortals (think moon knight and mortals being avatars of gods?), though their appearances are becoming rare.

    10. What kinds of groups exist in your fable lore? (guilds, herds, nobility, opposing political factions, etc.)
I use the term herds, (nobility) families, and houses interchangeably! there is also the merchant guild, where travelling fables from all types of herds gather.

    11. What time period does your fable world exist in?
an odd mix of medieval and 19th-20th century where some technology exists?

    12. What kind of technology is accessible to your fables?
electricity, some vehicles, and maybe some messaging systems equivalent to the internet but powered by other sources??

    13. What architecture, landscapes, monuments, ruins, etc. decorate your fable world?
Herd W——: moorlands, rivers, some historical ruins from the time this herd was established
Herd A——: mountain range and canyons, lakes, and close-ish to llyr's enchanted forest

    14. What kind of governments control your lands? How involved are they? Do they have regulations on magic usage?
I'd imagine it's mostly noble houses governing their own territory (usually nothing bigger than a set of mountains for size), but there are greater forces like previously mentioned gods. currently no solid laws for magic usage since my fables have miniscule amounts of magic :> but like my other OC world, the electromagnetic fields of the land probably naturally set any magic limits (in which there's ways to circumvent it but would require much effort)

    15. How long-lived are your fable(s)? Can fables obtain immortality in your world? (follow-up q: do fables have any persisting effects after death?)
I haven't figured this out yet x-x but none of them are immortal, though there's probably some way to bring about it. I like to think of the fables world as running alongside my other OC world(s) (collectively the Kett Cinematic Extended Universe or whatever LOLL), so they may have some overlapping magic standards - including the ability for mortals to gain immortality, though it's rare!

    16. Are there any common forms of ailments or deaths in your fables' world?
on top of regular maladies, there's probably some magic-borne illnesses that fables with a certain type of magic can catch, as well as illnesses that can only be treated with magic. some forms of magic can also manifest as life long curses. I'll have to figure this out later

    17. What kind of taboos haunt your fables' world? (example: BlueEyedKite's lore forbidding blood magic)
none because my fables don't possess enough magic to seriously cause danger, but generally it's discouraged for anyone to pursue magic not researched about as it could be volatile and harmful. I'd think some territories also use less "technology" but they'd have their alternatives. since my fables are connected to others I'm pretty flexible with this side of worldbuilding!

    18. Does your world have an origin story? Does its in-world depiction differ from the actual lore?
haven't thought of this yet 😭

    19. What other kinds of creatures do fables interact with and/or live amongst in your world?
skojares! possibly other "species" that have humanoid forms I develop them in. besides ordinary animals, there's also some made-up ones to show we're not exactly on "Earth" (to differentiate from my urban fantasy world) and some standard mythological creatures like dragons (Herd W—— origin story) and big scary birds.

    20. How do others in your fable world perceive your fable(s)?
      • Gong Wu is very extroverted in public and has a good reputation among his customers - make sure to rate him 5 stars on the merchant guild bulletin board!
      • Ciron has a bit of a weird reputation; his parents think he's reckless and too ambitious for the wrong reasons, but he's very popular with the knights and the general public
      • Llŷr was kind of a loner growing up, but since picking up the role of ambassador for his forest he's slowly becoming more sociable, even finding a partner in the process (he is liked for his shivering wet cat energy)
      • Maigue and her sister are not very well-liked after the semi-collapse of their birth herd (not that they'd say it to their faces since they're still nobility), after the fallout they've since become relatively notorious for different reasons, but the two sisters are closer to each other than ever!
      • Hanshen is quite well-liked though a bit mysterious (in actuality he's a little deranged and odd but maybe you can fix him)

    21. Do you have any symbols, motifs, or even emojis that you associate with your fable(s)?
absolutely! outside of their design inspirations, my fables each have certain aesthetics and elements I try to introduce in their art:
      • Gong Wu: opera masks, black cherries, fire
      • Ciron: tassels, shimmer of silver, longhair cats
      • Llŷr: pebbles, ballet, sunlight reflecting off waters
      • Maigue: dense forests, streams of light, red accents
      • Hanshen: blue birds, white guava, deep waters

    22. What does your fable(s) consider most precious, materially and/or ideologically?
interestingly the current noble fables of my roster are all oddballs of sorts so their ideologies tend not to align with their herds, with the exception of hanshen who does seek ruling power and wealth. Ciron seeks the thrill of life and "greatness", whatever that means / Maigue has a strong sense of justice but it's a bit warped, so she seeks vengence / Gong Wu's thoughts are a little conflicting and he's currently actively avoiding his feelings, but resolve and knowledge is quite important to him (out of my fables, he's also the most in touch with finance so I guess money too, but doesn't strive for wealth) / Llŷr highly values the forest he resides in, and wishes to protect the nature and its inhabitants

    23. What sizes does your fable(s) come in? (feel free to include heights for human form too)
interestingly I imagine some fables to be taller in human form than feral form and vice versa, just going off vibes! but here they are (human height / feral size)
      • Hanshen: 181cm / the current tallest fable but not by a lot; he's about the height of an elk with a slightly longer body
      • Ciron: 180cm / your average unicorn, he's noticeably tall with an air of royalty, horse shaped???
      • Llŷr: 180cm / in feral form he's the standard size of an adult deer. being my first fable, his size is most accurate to the fable reference!
      • Gong Wu: 178cm / he's actually taller than llyr and ciron in feral form! draconic fables are generally taller and slightly longer than regular (deer vs elk difference)
      • Maigue: 167cm / in feral form she's a bit smaller than average, deer-like and noticeably slender

    24. Has your fable(s) encountered any life-changing events? How did your fable(s) react to them?
Llyr, Gong Wu, and Maigue have all had pretty life-altering events. Llyr was abandoned in the forest ➡️ he turned out okay (I think) but still has weird dreams speculating about his old family / Gong Wu lost someone special to him ➡️ he's still trying to resolve that grief, but thankfully a certain noble curious about his journey might help with that... / Maigue's herd was dismantled and she was forced to deal with the fallout at a young age ➡️ she became a ruthless heir, having completely altered her personality - perhaps fate had it another way, perhaps not.

    25. What does your fable(s) look at their lowest and/or best?
Maigue probably has the biggest difference between lowest and best so: the things she knew in childhood- the earliest senses she remember- were sunshine, bright meadows, and peace, until all were taken from her when her herd was preyed upon. now that she's forged by her upbringing (with the cost of some lost sanity and learned ruthlessness), she has regained the power of the herd and reunited with her lost sister; their bond is stronger than ever, but no matter what they do to try and relive the childhood memories, revisiting that meadow, it wouldn't be the same.
which one is the lowest and which one is the best is up to your interpretation

    26. What kind of figure or goal guides your fable(s)?
      kind of answered in #22!

    27. Does your fable(s) have any kind of work or specialty? (being an heir to an herd, having a special talent for metalwork, etc.)
Maigue and Hanshen are both heirs to their herds by definition! Gong Wu was technically royalty too, but chose to work as an apprentice for the master of the royal court, then became a traveling merchant. Ciron is a prince, but being the youngest he likely doesn't need to bear responsibility of the heir, so he's gone off jousting with the knights. I keep thinking Llyr is unemployed but speaking for the trees is very important I promise 😭

    28. How does your fable(s) impact and/or interact with the world around them? (feel free to interpret this however way you want)
my current fables can only really affect what's in the mortal realm and mortal relations! some families are more powerful than others, but there's not as much conflict between them as of yet, so things are currently pretty peaceful. maybe it's time to introduce some deities that are capable of bigger changes >>

    29. Does your fable(s) have any connections to their local government? If not, are they loyal to any specific group(s)?
they're quite loyal to their respective herds, but leaving their territory isn't taboo or anything, as many noble houses are in good relations with each other.

    30. What is your fable(s)' most defining relationship? (one per fable, preferably [evil laugh])
      • Gong Wu: his magical donkey Isolde, and as much as he wishes to distance from it and find resolve, his deceased partner from years past.
      • Ciron: his girlfriend 😍 and also the knights.
      • Llŷr: I think he treasures everyone he meets equally, since he's seldom able to maintain longterm relationships growing up in the forest. he's found to find love and beauty in everything, the birds, the aquatic creatures, his childhood friend, and his partner.
      • Maigue: her sister.
      • Hanshen: the leadership of Herd W——, though he's not too keen about staying longterm.

Re: ✧ Fable Fanclub ✧ discord pg.23

Postby kyeza » Sun Aug 24, 2025 7:03 am

aaaa hi! i didn't get to answer the first questionnaire, but i'm here now and here are my answers !!

    kyeza's questionnaire 2 answers ✧
    1. Now that the Summer Solace nursery opened, which nursery has been your favorite? Which reiteration are you looking forward to most next?
probably spring, though i've loved them all! autumn is the most nostalgic to me since that's when i got my first fable, but spring takes the cake on floral/fairy-related traits <3 summer has been really fun with all the fishbles and full bases though. i think i'm most excited for winter's reiteration for reasons unknown ;)

    2. Have you found any new favorite fables in the time since the last questionnaire?
i didn't get around to doing the last one, but here's some of my all time belovedest fables !! (prepare yourself it's a lot. but really not that many when you consider that it's been a whole year's worth of fables KFHDS)
Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image

    3. Do you think there are any similarities amongst your favorite fables, such as shared traits, colors, themes, or stories?
i think softer palettes/pastels tend to catch my eye the most and i have to admit there's something so special about custom traits, like. that's That fable and only that fable's trait and it will never be done the same exact way for any other <3 makes them super recognizable imo and i love that about them! though the regular base traits are all sooo enchanting too and i absolutely love all of the ones shown above and more

    4. What kinds of fable prompts and/or design inspirations do you want to see next, or even repeated? (feel free to include pictures)
i absolutely adore moodboard/song design inspo comps !! and guessing comps are always so much fun (though i'm not very good at them haha). i would also love to see more partner comps, they really get the whole community working together to create stories and i love to see that. on that note, themed designs are always a treat, i love seeing how different artists interpret a prompt!

    5. What would you like to see for the species' first anniversary?
      😏 don't look at meeee

    6. Do you have any favorite lore prompts?
i honestly think i love all of the worldbuilding prompts equally, it's always my favorite section >:) the prized possessions/what's in their bag prompt was also a lot of fun! in terms of completed prompts, i still think about these (forever soft for fiore and alcyon my beloveds) and these (sireyaaaa u hurt me) every so often

    7. Did you accomplish any of the plans you wrote about in the last questionnaire?
i didn't answer the last one but i think having 13 fables each with their own lore and coded profile is a success in itself haha

    8. Any updates on your fables, plans for fables, MYOs, new art, etc. that you want to share?
i have quite a few new fables that i've acquired recently that i'm still working on nailing down lore for, but i've got a spreadsheet going to keep track of what each one is missing! i have quite a few plans for fables here,, lèoryth will be real some day i swear it. they were my first real fable entry and have Such a special place in my heart <33 little guy with their big ole amalgamation friend :,)

i do also have some recent art i've received that i'd love to share! vi's pixel of ardenne from artfight has my heart for forever and ever i swear it, and then there's these absolutely insane duo pieces of melui and aella (by krumbs on  ) and calypso and delphi (by bezel) that i will genuinely never recover from. and then this piece of rhuya by adheline that captures their personality so beautifully and lorien's whole gallery that i love and adore

    9. Do you have any guiding idea(s) or inspiration(s) for your fable lore? (like the abstract idea of gods, or inspiration from other media or your interests)
lord of the rings is definitely one of my bigger inspos for naming, many of my names come from elven languages like sindarin or quenya. honestly the majority of our worldbuilding is original stuff, all from the power of shoving together multiple brains and grinding out lore for months on end!

    10. What kinds of groups exist in your fable lore? (guilds, herds, nobility, opposing political factions, etc.)
present day faerendell has eleven noble houses, all of which have their own standings and inter- and intra-house politics. virellian, for example, has a rather complex political climate: leona is the head of house, and has a very... unique way of running things. virellian used to be a house of pacifists focused on their forest and not much else, but with her leadership it has since been vying for even more power than it already has as a major house. anesse is her very dedicated ambassador slash Hound who has kinda been taken under her wing despite being feared/ostracized by the majority of her house due to her fire magic. fiore is a minor noble politician old lady who was raised on the way virellian Used to be and wants that back. she's leona's direct adversary (though not really much more than a nuisance) and has hired alcyon as an informant, who she sends to keep watch over anesse's actions in myrmourn and basically is her ghost. get haunted idiot. so yeah, messy.

thalorian vs maravil is another ongoing political issue, one which has been dividing the continent. both factions used to be under the name of house maravil, but ambition and innovation has since divided them and brought an upcoming war to their doorstep. we have a little chart here on each house's stance on the issue hehe

there are also different tiers of noble houses, as i mentioned before: major, mesial, and minor, in order of influence. some houses, like albion, have different guilds within them too. albion has a bunch of merchant (and theives!) guilds vying for power within it, as the most influential barons of trade are the ones in power in their house.

    11. What time period does your fable world exist in?
faerendell is a classical medieval, semi-feudal society made up of nobility, lords and ladies, and lots of political intrigue

    12. What kind of technology is accessible to your fables?
since they're living in a medieval world, faerendell's fables don't quite have the luxury of many modern technologies. however, with their magic, they're able to accomplish quite a lot that they wouldn't be able to otherwise. one such thing are constructs, a type of fable-made imitation of sprites, the ethics of which is the main issue dividing the continent as of right now.

    13. What architecture, landscapes, monuments, ruins, etc. decorate your fable world?
i've written quite a bit on each noble house township's architecture in the doc in their sections, as well as some little tidbits under the architecture heading itself!

    14. What kind of governments control your lands? How involved are they? Do they have regulations on magic usage?
the main governments in place are the higher-ups of each individual noble house, most of which are rather involved in how their houses are run. the only one that doesn't have any real government in place is lochend. outside of the nobility, though, the rest of faerendell (with the exception of stormire, which is self-regulating via their government of cityfolk) doesn't fall under any particular government. there is no real regulation of magic usage either, aside from the taboo i will talk about later!

    15. How long-lived are your fable(s)? Can fables obtain immortality in your world? (follow-up q: do fables have any persisting effects after death?)
fables in faerendell generally live to be around a century old, with some variation possible of course. very rarely, fables may live to be much longer than a century. however, while fables do not necessarily die of old age, as they reach a certain age they grow more and more susceptible to illness and their magic weakens.

when fables pass on, their bodies do not linger in physical form for long. they remain for a few days after death, until they begin to dissipate into pure magic—their bones the only remaining token of their existence. these bones, if buried, then bring about the growth of boneblooms, a type of flower that only grows atop the gravesites of fables.

    16. Are there any common forms of ailments or deaths in your fables' world?
one such ailment is a dampening of magic that we haven't yet named, which is a rather common and generally temporary illness, but can be very debilitating. it tends to flare up seasonally and can become chronic in rare, severe cases. moira is one example of a fable with this illness and as a result, she can't travel the world like she'd hoped since it left her too vulnerable :(

    17. What kind of taboos haunt your fables' world? (example: BlueEyedKite's lore forbidding blood magic)
magic that influences sprites and sprite hunting as a whole are huge taboos in faerendell. despite being incredibly looked down upon, there is still a black market demand for sprite materials and companionship (no matter how unwilling of a bond it is). abandonment of children is another thing that fable society looks down on others for, save for in stellaris that is. producing a child is a largely intentional act of time and magic, and bringing new life into the world only to disown it is generally disapproved of.

    18. Does your world have an origin story? Does its in-world depiction differ from the actual lore?
not quite! we're still working on faerendell history to that extent, we just haven't gotten there yet! lots of things we're scheming up though so beware >:)

    19. What other kinds of creatures do fables interact with and/or live amongst in your world?
while fables are the last standing flesh and blood creatures in faerendell, sprites are a type of wild creature made out of natural materials that can be found in the world as well. they are seemingly sentient, though do not appear to be fully conscious, and each type of sprite has regional variants based on environmental factors (location, temp, etc).

    20. How do others in your fable world perceive your fable(s)?
lórien — an arrogant young noble heir with frankly alarmingly good control over crowds of fables via his magic
netyissë — once viewed as the most beautiful heir in the land, now seen as a mindless sea monster
sirëya — a perfect heir and daughter who could never do any wrong (haha) (funny)
rhúya — also a mindless sea monster, though for some reason. sadder than the other one. melancholic, even
melui — a struggling mage student and sentient ball of anxiety
cahir — a very, very rich man
fiore — an old lady politician and probably a bit insane
ardenne — a lovely, always very helpful neighbor (though pomona probably sees her as more of an annoyance at times)
delphi — a hardworking girl, though no one is sure why she's so close with the princess
      finlan — a brat
epona — a cryptid professor nobody can ever get ahold of outside of class time (and who Knows if you didn't do your homework)
maddox — a very shady guy who definitely commits crimes
rhodeia — a welcoming tavernkeep for travelers out in the snow

    21. Do you have any symbols, motifs, or even emojis that you associate with your fable(s)?
lórien — gold and riches / soft, silky hair / expensive outfits / fallen leaves
netyissë — ocean depths / sea monsters / whirlpools / drowning / starry night sky
sirëya — snowflakes / icicles / frozen roses / long, flowing hair
rhúya — ripples in water / seaweed / fins / tide pools / omens in the stars
melui — magic / piles of books / crystals / pink-leaved trees / colorful galaxies
cahir — trinkets / wealth / merchant guilds / old books / lots of jewelry
fiore — fairies / pink flowers / shimmering veils / ancient forests / any flora
ardenne — harvest season / autumn / homemade soup / fresh apple cider / fields of crops
      delphi — jellyfish / pearls / saltwater / bubbles / iridescence / moonlight
finlan — wooden horses / barn chores / old money / dirt <3
epona — old parchment / ink and quill / overgrowth / old keys and jewelry / jasmine scent
maddox — weapons / bounties / shady corners / black market / bones
rhodeia — crystal fruit / pomegranates / wine / cozy inns / ribbons

    22. What does your fable(s) consider most precious, materially and/or ideologically?
i think most of my fables prioritize the balance between fablekind and nature/sprites above all else (not. not maddox ofc. but). many consider sprites to be their equals, beings that can teach them more about the world itself and its history. some, on the other hand, view them as something to be exploited and used to better their own lives.

    23. What sizes does your fable(s) come in? (feel free to include heights for human form too)
height wise most of my fables range from deer to pony to horse to draft horse in size, though i haven't thought too much on that front. occasional draft horse jumpscare
smallest to tallest: fiore, delphi, rhuya, melui, rhodeia, sireya, lorien, netyisse, finlan, epona, cahir, ardenne, maddox

    24. Has your fable(s) encountered any life-changing events? How did your fable(s) react to them?
i'd say becoming a sea monster was a pretty traumatizing and life-altering event for netyisse and rhuya 😭😭 lorien also gets sent to stormire as a rite of passage for entering lysandor adulthood, so there's that as well. he's pretty happy to represent his house and work towards becoming the most successful heir he can be

    25. What does your fable(s) look at their lowest and/or best?
i think melui has the biggest contrast between her lowest and best! her best was definitely before the split, when she was whole and went by the name of alouette. she was the best in her class and all her professors adored her, but then she attempted to split her soul using magic to help keep up with all her workload. this resulted in aella and melui, two imperfect halves of a whole. now, she's at her lowest, suffering from crippling anxiety and wishing to be whole once more, despite aella's distancing of herself. but then again, at her "best" she had no friends and was drowning in schoolwork, and now she has company in kyrios and sylvaine while drowning in said schoolwork, so it's really up to your interpretation which is which.

    26. What kind of figure or goal guides your fable(s)?
each noble house kind of has their own typical way they face the world. lysandor and albion want to wring all they can from it, eldemar and soloron want to learn as much about it as they can, faeloren wants to leave it more understood and beautiful than they found it, virellian and lochend want to work in harmony with it, myrmourn wants to protect it, maravil and velastri want to keep it the same, and thalorian wants to change it, for better or for worse.

    27. Does your fable(s) have any kind of work or specialty? (being an heir to an herd, having a special talent for metalwork, etc.)
lórien — heir to house lysandor
netyissë — ex-heir to house velastri (now she's . great at swimming 👍 KJDHF)
      sirëya — gaslight gatekeep girlboss
rhúya — good at being the most anxious guy in the room
melui — being sad. also used to be good at magic when she was whole but No Longer </3 she issss also a full time student
cahir — very influential in the commerce community if that counts for anything (it does). one of albion's top barons of trade
      fiore — queen of politics
ardenne — pro farmer and like 50 times stronger than me
delphi — also being sad. i haven't really developed who she was on her own yet so i'll have to come back to this one
      finlan — being a brat
epona — philosophy! she's a professor of it and she loves pondering the meaning of fable life <3
maddox — sprite hunting/energy containment and navigating the black market :)
rhodeia — idk yet i just got her HJDFS probably inn management, i feel like she's good at cooking too

    28. How does your fable(s) impact and/or interact with the world around them? (feel free to interpret this however way you want)
i kinda answered this in #22, but most of my fables tend to interact cautiously with the world around them, very respectful of sprites and nature as a whole, as well as how they use their magic

    29. Does your fable(s) have any connections to their local government? If not, are they loyal to any specific group(s)?
each of their noble houses! or if they're unaffiliated, their town/village/home
      lórien — lysandor
      netyissë — ex-velastri
      sirëya — velastri
      rhúya — ex-soloron
      melui — faeloren
      cahir — albion
fiore — virellian (but specifically the old virellian not leona's virellian)
      ardenne — lochend
      delphi — lost to time
      finlan — velastri
      epona — eldemar
maddox — unaffiliated, lives in vinbonne
rhodeia — unaffiliated, lives just outside of soloron
(why do i have the majority of house velastri. my bad)

    30. What is your fable(s)' most defining relationship? (one per fable, preferably [evil laugh])
      oh boy let's see......
lórien — his mutual hatred with nedrin for sure. stuck up noble heir vs snarky courier who will win
netyissë — her sister and her betrayal </3
      sirëya — #betraying her sister #girlboss #slay
rhúya — the noble house they were born into. small innocent ill-omened baby child vs the world
melui — aellaaaaa how she misses aella. let her be whole again pls
      cahir — his guild!
fiore — either alcyon (informant slash girlfriend) or diluvian (old married couple core), though leona (political opponent) takes a close second
ardenne — pomona, her lovely (not so lovely) neighbor <3
delphi — calypso ohhh my god calypso. tragic. friends to lovers to enemies real
finlan — the horses in the stable he's been forced to work at bc he has no friends yet
epona — ummmmm her books. or her students ig
maddox — nobody (and he likes it that way). but also technically the sprites whose souls he reaps
rhodeia — her brother and their messed up relationship bc fev and i can't have any Normal dynamics
      .

thank you so much to ruse for making this second questionnaire !!
so much of this is going to be similar to kyeza's bc we share a world but i really enjoyed filling it out <3

fev's questionnaire 2 answers ✧ (+ my answers to questionnaire 1 can be found here)

    1. Now that the Summer Solace nursery opened, which nursery has been your favorite? Which reiteration are you looking forward to most next?
spring reverie my beloved!! i'm a sucker for plants and the colour pink, so i was in love with it <3 i think i'm most looking forward to seeing this year's winter nursery >:3 (or maybe next year's spring nursery, but that one is still a ways away!)

    2. Have you found any new favorite fables in the time since the last questionnaire?
yes. SO many. i'll include some of my all time favs below:
Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image

    3. Do you think there are any similarities amongst your favorite fables, such as shared traits, colors, themes, or stories?
i loveee soft colour palettes, and i'm a huge fan of natural-ish designs with unnatural accent colours (or vice versa) <3 also hair apparently??? a lot of my favourite fables have really pretty hair edits!

    4. What kinds of fable prompts and/or design inspirations do you want to see next, or even repeated?
i love prompts that involve lore and development but with small writing/art limits !! it's fun to practice getting a character idea across concisely rather than having thousands of words of space to ramble (which is how i usually do it lol)

    5. What would you like to see for the species' first anniversary?
      ;)

    6. Do you have any favorite lore prompts?
i think i had the most fun writing for the tapestry prompt !! other favs include the field guide, identifying species, and expressions of love <3

    7. Did you accomplish any of the plans you wrote about in the last questionnaire?
LOL my main goal was to have all my fables profiles fully coded and filled out. which. i have not quite accomplished yet! but i'm actually much closer than i would've expected, to be honest. i tend to put off filling out character profiles basically indefinitely for every species i'm in because i feel like any writing on the page has to be perfect (which is impossible). but !! i've got almost all of their basic information filled out, and all of the relationships for most of them :D

    8. Any updates on your fables, plans for fables, MYOs, new art, etc. that you want to share?
i have a few new characters in the works! one of them is in the process of being made through a custom, but for the most part i'm just waiting adopts to come around that feel right! knickknacks and i have been working on a duo (avalon and merrow my BELOVEDS) for a bit and i'm very determined to eventually make them real <3
i'll share a few art pieces i've received of my fables recently-ish as well: calypso/delphi by bezel, calypso pixel by hellevi, lps-ified aella by nio, human aella by kett, leona enjoying a hotspring by ethium, leona slaying by molotov, and abstract renāte by waverly! i'm literally so obsessed with every single one of these :')

    9. Do you have any guiding idea(s) or inspiration(s) for your fable lore? (like the abstract idea of gods, or inspiration from other media or your interests)
not anything in particular, honestly!! i feel like my lore usually does start as being heavily inspired by something (my other Big Worldbuilding Project™ at the moment is very warrior cats inspired) but i think faerendell has been mostly from me and my friends' brains >:3 i know kyeza has taken some inspo from lord of the rings, especially for naming fables in our world, which has been very fun!

    10. What kinds of groups exist in your fable lore? (guilds, herds, nobility, opposing political factions, etc.)
the big ones are the 11 noble houses, but there are also little unaffiliated townships scattered around the continent!

    11. What time period does your fable world exist in?
since it doesn't occur on earth/in our universe it's kinda hard to think of what this means for faerendell, but it's VERY much inspired by classical medieval time periods as we know them! lords and ladies and magic aplenty

    12. What kind of technology is accessible to your fables?
they don't have advanced technology in the form of phones or vehicles or anything like that, but there is magic that allows fables to communicate across vast distances!

    13. What architecture, landscapes, monuments, ruins, etc. decorate your fable world?
each noble house tends to have their own motif for architecture (eg. virellian's structures are largely built around/integrated into the trees of the forest they reside in, eldemar has a huge dark academia vibe going on, velastri architecture is very ornate and fancy, etc)! there are also a LOT of different natural landmarks, including mountain ranges, seas, lakes, and funky forests dotted around faerendell's map. in terms of ruins, the big one is mystkeep !! what was once a vibrant and flourishing city, now reduced to crumbling ruins </3 also mystkeep may or not be kinda. alive. in a way

    14. What kind of governments control your lands? How involved are they? Do they have regulations on magic usage?
the noble houses! the houses vary in terms of political involvement (eg. virellian is VERY involved, while certain houses prefer to largely stay out of it and exist in peace), size, and importance, with the different categories being major, mesial, and minor. no regulations currently exist in terms of magic usage, but that could be a very interesting addition to the political landscape we have going on!

    15. How long-lived are your fable(s)? Can fables obtain immortality in your world? (follow-up q: do fables have any persisting effects after death?)
they tend to live for around a century, but some can live a lot longer if they're lucky (or shorter if they fall severely ill or are injured)! in terms of persisting effects after deaths, boneblooms are a species of flower that only grows in the soil above gravesites. they're very spiritually important and taking them from the gravesite of someone you weren't close to/treading on them is considered very distasteful

    16. Are there any common forms of ailments or deaths in your fables' world?
we haven't really developed the specifics of the illnesses in faerendell, but i think that's one of the next things we need to work on for sure!! i do have one fable, moira, who became ill with a sickness that is usually pretty harmless and temporary, think a common cold that temporarily reduces a fable's magical strength, but in rare cases (such as hers) can cause long-term magic dampening :( rip my girl she just wanted to explore the world!!!

    17. What kind of taboos haunt your fables' world? (example: BlueEyedKite's lore forbidding blood magic)
basically anything that involves using magic on sprites is considered pretty taboo (depending on what noble house you're from, i guess, bc thalorian is ALL for it)! they're seen by many as equals to fables, despite not being true flesh-and-blood living things, and despite the true depth of their sentience/consciousness being unknown. using magic to imitate a true bond between fable and sprite, or even to kill a sprite, is highly frowned upon by the majority of fables

    18. Does your world have an origin story? Does its in-world depiction differ from the actual lore?
not yet! but i think an origin to the world would be fun to think about, so thank you for putting the idea in our heads!!

    19. What other kinds of creatures do fables interact with and/or live amongst in your world?
sprites !! wild creatures formed from a variety of natural materials, some of my favs being gembeetles and stonedogs :D

    20. How do others in your fable world perceive your fable(s)?
      • calypso - she had aura manipulation magic that allowed her to shape the way others perceived her, so very positively for the most part! there were definitely a select few who saw through it and saw her as snobby/self-centred, though
      • aella - for the most part, she's polite and keeps to herself, so probably pretty shallowly but positively! there's definitely some curiosity from those who know about her split from melui, though, as a fable splitting themself in two as alouette did is completely unheard of. she isn't a fan of this attention, preferring to blend in to her environment
      • caelith - they don't tbh, outside of occasional weary travellers who appreciate the respite his tavern provides
      • irissë - probably pretty beloved by the soloron community!! they LOVE their daily horoscopes and she's the one heading that department of the local newspaper, so i imagine while she's not hugely social or influential, she's probably well known around town and well-liked :)
      • leona - i feel like there are two very polarizing POVs that other fables might have of her. they either see her as this trailblazer leading the conquest of constructs, advancing technology and ushering faerendell into a new age, or as an arrogant, power-hungry figurehead of a movement that's sure to crash and burn. neither is right or wrong
      • pomona - surface-level, probably as a bit cold and rude. she's not one for chit chat or pleasantries, but she's also not outright mean or anything. just a bit reclusive and doesn't really care how others view her
      • moira - as long as it's not with pity, she doesn't mind. she's held in a rather high regard within stormire, i feel, because of her artistic talent and proximity to various nobles
      • sylvaine - as a sweet lil thing! so polite and shy and a bit naive
      • renāte - once an heir to house myrmourn, now a cryptid haunting the local forest, the wyrmwood. her family believes her to be dead, and she's remembered as this tragic helpless little thing who was taken too soon </3
      • mireu - while she was,,, napping in mystkeep,,, she was seen by some as a saint of sorts? in reality she was just a missing kid, and now that she's back i'd imagine some fables would eye her and be like. hmm. you look kinda look like that figure of folklore i read about one time. weird coincidence lol!! and then some, like lusan, actually recognize her and regard her with a lot of curiosity. maybe even a lil reverence
      • alcyon - not often! basically being a spy, alcyon possesses relatively strong illusion-based magic that allows her to blend into her environments quite well. her main goal at all times is basically just to be perceived as little as possible

    21. Do you have any symbols, motifs, or even emojis that you associate with your fable(s)?
      • calypso - opalescence, the ocean, seashells, pink sunsets, shiny fish scales 🐚
      • aella - flowers, spring rainshowers, stars, backyard gardens, bouquets 🌷
      • caelith - untouched snow, a lonely cabin, frozen lakes, the scent of pine ❄️
      • irissë - constellations, horoscopes, stars, iridescent glitter, telescopes ✨
      • leona - roses, thorns, gilded thrones, dense forests, humid summer days 🌹
      • pomona - apples, red gingham fabric, wicker baskets, summer, pastries 🍎
      • moira - tapestries, magic, untamed wilderness, maps to burried treasure 🗺️
      • sylvaine - feathers, crop fields, cloudless blue skies, leather notebooks 🪶
      • renāte - swords and daggers, faerendell's moons, thorns, eldritch horror 🗡️
      • mireu - a starry night sky, opalescence, fairytales, sleeping in, dark alleyways 🌌
      • alcyon - shiny green beetles, spring, foggy meadows, long trailing plants 🪲

    22. What does your fable(s) consider most precious, materially and/or ideologically?
hehe i liked my lore prompt that answered a similar question so i'll just link that here for funsies >:3

    23. What sizes does your fable(s) come in? (feel free to include heights for human form too)
ranging roughly between the sizes of a deer and a moose i think??? the vast majority of my guys are on the smaller side, and even most of my taller fables are still pretty slenderly-built. the biggest (literally) outlier is leona, who i imagine as being BIG. like the size of a very, very large horse. from smallest to largest, i think it would be: renāte, irissë, sylvaine, mireu, moira, aella, alycon, pomona, calypso, caelith, leona

    24. Has your fable(s) encountered any life-changing events? How did your fable(s) react to them?
the main things that come to mind are a) alouette's split into melui and aella, and b) renāte's twin's death </3 melui and aella reacted VERY differently to the split: melui immediately tried to cling to aella, desperate for them to come back together again, while aella became very avoidant very quickly, kind of unfairly leaving melui to live what used to be alouette's life while she went off on her own. renāte (as one might assume) did not handle her twin's assassination very well. she felt far too guilty for being unable to save her and ended up retreating further into the wyrmwood, refusing to return to her noble family and truly acknowledge what had happened

    25. What does your fable(s) look at their lowest and/or best?
well. mireu was literally a statue for a while so i'll consider that her worst LMAO. her real form is stunning gorgeous beautiful (thank you again, bezel) so i'll consider that her best <3

    26. What kind of figure or goal guides your fable(s)?
i feel like this differs broadly by noble house, and then even MORE broadly among individual fables

    27. Does your fable(s) have any kind of work or specialty? (being an heir to an herd, having a special talent for metalwork, etc.)
      • calypso - noble heir
      • aella - market florist
      • caelith - tavernkeep
      • irissë - astrologist for the local newspaper
      • leona - head of house virellian
      • pomona - farmer/horticulturist (runs an orchard)
      • moira - tapestry weaver
      • sylvaine - currently a student
      • renāte - cryptid
      • mireu - she just woke up from a multi-century nap so she's kinda still figuring it out
      • alcyon - informant (spy >:3)

    28. How does your fable(s) impact and/or interact with the world around them?
some of them, like caelith, are pretty passive and like to leave as little trace as possible as they go about their lives. others, like leona, are here with the sole purpose of causing as much change as possible

    29. Does your fable(s) have any connections to their local government? If not, are they loyal to any specific group(s)?
lots (but not all) of them have allegiances to certain noble houses!!

    30. What is your fable(s)' most defining relationship? (one per fable, preferably [evil laugh])
      • calypso - her best friend, lover, and enemy all in one, delphi
      • aella - her other half, melui! and i mean that so literally because they used to be one fable
      • caelith - his sister, rhodeia! they run a little bed-n-breakfast tavern together, just outside of stellaris. unfortunately, he's way more reliant on her than she is on him, which eventually leads to some problems for the two of them when rho realizes she'd kinda of like to live in a real community </3
      • irissë - for now, i think it'd be mensa! irissë is a bit younger, but the two attended the same soloron academy for a short time. irissë grew pretty attached to mensa, in a please-be-my-mentor kind of way, and mensa was a little taken aback and a little flattered, but ended up slowly drifting away. now that she's the head of house soloron, irissë has probably placed her on an even higher pedestal. #parasocial
      • leona - probably anesse? leona isn't one for getting close to others, but she has a soft spot for her most loyal diplomat and closest confidant
      • pomona - i think it's a toss up between sylvaine, her beloved daughter, and struma, her Ex From Hell™ <3 while she and sylvaine have a somewhat strained relationship, with pomona being very reluctant to show affection, they both love each other sooo much. struma and pomona's relationship is, in contrast, not at all loving! they were only together for one summer in their youth before they split (because struma realized she valued being noble over being with pomona), but not before having the twins. i think their relationship shaped both of them very significantly
      • moira - her bestie and (unbeknownst to her) unrequited crush, eriyn <3
      • sylvaine - ooo it was actually difficult to pick one for her. i feel like each of her immediately relatives (mama pomona, other mama struma, and twin brother kyrios) are all just about equally influential on her life right now
      • renāte - her deceased twin :( who is not a real fable (yet)
      • mireu - saora, who is also not a real fable (yet)!! i won't leak kyeza's lore for them but it's probably the saddest dynamic we have going in faerendell yet, it KILLSSS me
      • alcyon - fiorenza! a political opponent of leona's who enlisted alcyon to surveil her diplomat, anesse. their relationship was originally all business but has slowly been turning into a bit of a will-they-won't-they romance

HIII i come back with more replies AND my own answers.. big post ahead...
again, thank you everyone for taking the time to answer and share your lore in the questionnaire. it's fun reading everything and following links!!

@Melonbread HIII melonbread, big fan of u and ur blathering 🤩 also appreciate that u linked to ur fables for ease, but unfortunately, since i'm a big fan, i already knew all of ur fables and didn't need to click on these links 😭 (also 👋!)
agree on enjoying stories where extraordinary creatures in extraordinary worlds have ordinary problems and feelings!! this is why knize is one of my fave fables rn (how many fave fables do i have. haha, well. lets just sayr. i don't know how to count 🤩)!! the way u talked about his parents' influence on his priorities + his character storage post detailing his living space are both so beautiful in their mundanity. i really like how knize, the sixth price, verela and rahma are connected through the desijian guilds so far too. and perrin's eternity of mourning totally checks out 👍
and the way you wrote about your continent is so vivid.. i have trouble visualizing written imagery sometimes, but i could imagine how the mountains swing down the center, and the appearance of the piece of land that's a little tooth.
lovee your answer for question 22, there's so much nuance that idk how to choose what i want to comment on specifically. hm.. i like the distinction between knowledge and understanding for yeşim's ideological goal, because it speaks so much to her conviction and meticulousness, the kind of meticulousness that has her counting grains of sand...
also yue chen tracking down liujin to give her back her sword but the meaning being misrepresented by liujin is so good, bc it reflects both their characters so well, how yue chen was blind to liujin's internal turmoil and liujin's inability to believe in yue chen 😭 (also the relationship chart is so funny orz)

@Woodchip i'm glad my questionnaire could help you iron some stuff out in your lore :D i enjoyed reading your answers a lot, your passion is contagious orz
also i ended up reading ur void prompt since you mentioned it, and omg i'm obsessed with the tension you've created, i can really feel kova's anxiety and desperation as he's trying to find a way out, grasping at whatever his magic can locate in the boundary between worlds. i also liked the dynamics between him and your other fables, especially ištaran and nirah! and that last line was KILLER.. "[Kova] realized now, the darkness he once feared was not something to escape, but something to understand."
i read thru ur answers a couple days ago (im slow at responding), so ena the bread fable whose memories will only stay intact for three days has been in my head for DAYS!! one more day and i will outlast her in her hypothetical post-death form, trust..
also i loveee how you interpreted your fables' heights! because of their large physical impressions, it's totally feasible why other creatures would fear fables coming from nowhere. i will be waiting for your city fable btw
also your art style is to die for.. i actually think about this piece of ištaran and nirah a lot!! the first work i saw from you was the one you drew for #200, so when i saw the ištaran and nirah piece, i was so surprised because of their differences. i think you have a gift for capturing emotion and magic in art, so whenever/if you draw odalis, i believe you'll do them justice! (also the yu drawing in ur gallery, hi fellow arknights player 🤝)

@ylesia your idea for the first anniversary with the birthday cake?? OMG?? love it.. i also really liked the fishing event, so a reinterpretation with cake is more than welcome!!
DEVON IS REAL??? help it feels like it was just yesterday i was reading about him in the void lore prompt omg.... big congrats on making him real and bringing his relationship with nimue to life!
i'm intrigued by how you envision your fables' time periods, since it seems like a lot of work, but very fulfilling work, to flesh out the past, present, and future generations of ur world! and i like that how you have fenix, the ancients, and the fables who can connect with the otherworld as the firm existences in the passage of time!
also really cool that all ur milestone fable entries have a consistent setting in the ruins, it makes me want to make some time to look for your entries and see if i connect them. and the ancients is also neat in that they have so much power in your fables' lore, despite not being fables themselves.. and i like how u distinguished the crow as wise!
nimue is the fable that interests me the most, for her connection to oisin/devon and the deadwood, because i feel like these two have darker concepts that contrast nimue's curiosity and peacefulness, but she makes her relationships with both work somehow??
also ty for appreciating shuò! i think i'm engulfed by my thoughts of him, so it tickles me when i find out that other people like him too orz

    @Snowflakette fellow knize liker 🤝
MAIGUE!!!!! she's gorgeous in the ref you just linked, and the new piece u submitted for the lore prompt, man...
hanshen's projected role sounds really interesting!! i can imagine how he'd get on the nerves of nobility as an advisor LOL
ohhh, like you and melonbread, i get inspired by music too! "when i can't make you mine" sounds like it'd hit soo hard as the background music of whenever hanshen opens a door, idk?? him being in an advisor position is also interesting because of the "do i stink of jealousy or pride" lyric, because an advisor position has to be socially connected to nobility, so i feel like he could oscillate between jealousy and pride a lot LOL
"he is liked for his shivering wet cat energy" i like llŷr for that reason too, omg..
what..💔 gong wu is getting close to nobles other than shuò???
maigue's life-altering events give me the vibe of a really unlucky eldest sister's life?? 😭 i sympathize with her.. also her desire to relive the past is saddening, because it's like she has most of the elements she needs to go back (her sister, their bond, the meadow), but she's missing an important one: her past self. so i would say that she's at her lowest now, if what she prizes deep down was her long-gone purity.
"maybe it's time to introduce some deities that are capable of bigger changes >>" scary! i would love to see this!!
every time i see that llŷr and ada art i go 🥺...

@kyeza (me ignoring your suspicious answer for question 1) the way you came in with a whole stampede for question 2 oh mein gott??? 😭
so trew about custom traits.. i think they're like tabubu labubus or the 24k gold one, except i like custom trait fables more.. i like it a lot when custom traits are combined with template traits, like it relates them back to other fables, even though they have the same base and pose already? idk orz
sirëya is such a fun character to read about, because she's malicious but struggles with the guilt that her malicious actions brought her. her guilt makes me want to sympathize with her, but looking closer, it's clear that her guilt is born of her selfishness like her maliciousness. but i like that soo much too.... like in the lore prompt you linked, what comes to sirëya's mind isn't how her sister might feel about the transformation, but sirëya's past and current memories of netyissë's appearance.. omg.. sirëya....
anything about melui and aella's relationship is always so heartbreaking and tasty, thank you for the gift <3 and i love lórien's horns in his human form!!
the lore grind does pay off fr.. this is coming from someone who's rereading you, ethium, knicknacks, literal.swag. and feverrr's google doc. i keep finding new things to appreciate and take notes on (T_T
i like that the unnamed illness can flare up seasonally, because of its relatability and how it can cause problems in your fables' lives, like with moira.
ohhh the way u answered question 18 makes me wonder if the big thing you talked about before with knick is the history.. NICE... (if true)
finlan a brat who is associated with dirt... hm...

@feverrr your answer for question 4 is YEAHH!! i know i have a tendency to ramble, so it's fun to practice being concise. but only sometimes.. also agree about wanting character profiles to be perfect, even though it's impossible.. orz
getting the basics down at least is good bc basics are the least likely to change, so they're close to perfect, imo!
LOVE that u came in with so many art pieces of your fables. leona in a hot spring is so cute to me, because so far i've seen her be strong and powerful, so seeing her at peace is sweet. also aella lps OMG.. so cute orz
    YAY!!! mystkeep mention! 🤩
yw for putting the idea of an origin story in your heads!! excited to see if u guys do anything with it, on top of ur preexisting mysterious big plans :o
calyspo using magic to influence others' perception of her, wow <3 love it because it contrasts her sweet image!
love how u answered question 21, very pretty and informative! mireu's makes a lot of sense to me based on your entry for #200, specifically the dark alleyways..
the lore prompt you linked?? "in whispered stories, passed from apothecary to tavern-keeper ... woven into a wreath, a plea for confession." what the hell... another beautiful written work from feverrr....
caelith just being born in real life last week and now having problems with his sister because she wants to live in a real community.. faerendell is full of these difficult sibling relationships LOLLL you guys should add a family therapist next for all these overly dependent siblings 🙏
irissë having a parasocial relationship with mensa, i get her... me with my favorite idols orz
gonna pretend i did not read about mireu and saora so i can preserve my sanity until saora comes out <3

@Smokyskies good luck on finding a partner for the partner competition! i've seen some people have trouble looking for partners in the discord, so maybe they'll look for someone on here and contact you?
sorry that the recent questionnaire posts' possibility of lessening the visibility of your post though (T_T

    ruse's questionnaire 2 answers ✧
    1. Now that the Summer Solace nursery opened, which nursery has been your favorite? Which reiteration are you looking forward to most next?
spring reverie and summer solace have been my favorites so far :o
im looking forward to the next autumn one bc there's a lot of new traits now, but for the winter nursery, i'm curious if there will be more wintery traits added.. i think we have enough traits as is, but imagine if there were more fluffy bases, and each page of the winter nursery was full of fluffy fables. walk with me here..

    2. Have you found any new favorite fables in the time since the last questionnaire?
i just answered the last questionnaire, so orz
      but i like:
Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image and more!!!

    3. Do you think there are any similarities amongst your favorite fables, such as shared traits, colors, themes, or stories?
hmmm vague but i like when there's contrast in a design!! normally i like when there's two conflicting colors but theyre balanced w each other in mind, or if the fable is simple but the way theyre accessorized is what stands out. for character aspects, i like morally gray characters, or characters who have contrasting elements in their personality, like the combo of egotistic but self-conscious, intelligent in academics but dense in social situations. so what i'm saying is that i like gap moe.. (all roads go back to jumin han..)

    4. What kinds of fable prompts and/or design inspirations do you want to see next, or even repeated?
hm.. a fable with a missing wing or horn template trait, so the entries can choose between if they want the fable to have a specific type of horn or pair of wings (maybe just one wing, even)?
and for another idea, a competition with a prompt that asks for a moodboard, AND a name playlist where each song's first letter corresponds to the fable's name. idk if there should be a personality section, bc a part of me is curious how much personality you can squeeze from these two components alone, but ik that's evil thinking (T_T
my silly idea for a fable comp is a hunger games style comp, where the first six entries are guaranteed a slot in the raffle for the fable. all the entries after that get put into a randomizer for 18 ppl, and then the total of 24 people are put into a hunger games simulator LOL. i think it would turn out so confusing but funny.
also speaking of confusing but funny, i would love to see another fcfs questionnaire LOL
also i would like to see more fable series/themed fables!! i agree with melonbread (👋👋👋) that seeing runner ups is so cool bc theyre like design siblings or conceptual cousins.. on this note, i would like to see a partner comp with the questions "what are they hiding from their partner?" and "what does this fable think their partner is hiding?" also the new partner comp is delicious TYYYY
but for actual designs, i would like to see more asymmetrical traits like bellamy.. begging like the beggiest beggar in all of beggardom...

    5. What would you like to see for the species' first anniversary?
1 red fable made by each artist for kite?? 😭 or maybe a raffle or competition for a full custom myo made by an artist? idk, but i hope it's a lot of fun for everyone involved!! a nice celebration for the staff and community orz
seeing fable staff respond to this question with emojis is so funny, but at least it's clear they're working on it or even already finished? 😭

    6. Do you have any favorite lore prompts?
i wish so badly that i knew about lore prompts when "an old story known within your world" was released!! but i also really like kite's tapestry prompt.. the prompt itself scares me because idk how to approach it, but i like kite's interpretation of it + how she incorporated it into her lore!! i also like the jams and recipes prompts in general </3

    7. Did you accomplish any of the plans you wrote about in the last questionnaire?
yesss it was just getting shuò tho orz

    8. Any updates on your fables, plans for fables, MYOs, new art, etc. that you want to share?
shuò met someone who brought back his curiosity in life!! i think shuò has matured into a secure presence, but is stagnant in his social relationships. so shuò having gw (hiiii) is a blessing. and, in a way, i think that shuò is the earth the fire can rest on orz

    9. Do you have any guiding idea(s) or inspiration(s) for your fable lore?
      1. what i like <3
      2. something i saw randomly and decided to like
hm.. my magic stones were loosely inspired by jewel mages in "the accidental heiress"! and the slight connections between chinese and other asian languages also inspire my lore, bc i think it's really neat.. part of my lore explores what if the connection between these languages was more present in the people's dna, culture, language, etc. also i'm quite fond of the idea that humans' power lies in their size and individual capacity to endure, but their size can be detrimental in that a majority opinion can silence individual voices.
and i also like the idea that humans are meant to create art, so shuò funds the arts. but this is important to him personally as well, because he's always been tied to art, from his historical records to his sculptor's wishes to his own vanity. i like to read a lot, so random things i encounter also guide my fable lore.
and i like fables' name as a species a lot too, so i loosely tied the word "fables" into my lore as myths or stories with the ability to empower fables' magic.
if this looks messy, yeah it looks like that in my brain too (^_^

    10. What kinds of groups exist in your fable lore?
i have shuò's empire which is kind of a group? but i also have herds (placeholder title) that i'm slowly fleshing out.. they have vastly different cultures, even tho one is descended from an already existing herd. in my lore, stories have a lot of importance for fables bc they strengthen fables' magic, but one herd (i'll call them herd 1 for now) was split on whether or not they were allowed to benefit from human stories. so one group decided yes, and the other decided no.
but the one that decided no also banned all stories, so they (herd 2) rely on their own magic and are a disconnected group of fables because they don't have stories to share with each other. herd 3 is majorly religious and artistic; they might like shuò if he ever crossed the veil of the mirror world. and then there's a herd (herd 4) that exists at the edge of shuò's empire, but they hate him <3
oh, and i intentionally had herds 1 and 2 kinda mirror seitō and samchawon, in that herd 1/seitō chose magic, but herd 2/samchawon didn't choose magic. but, the mirror world (which houses these herds) doesn't have a shuò, so when shuò reconnected seitō and samchawon, samchawon didn't stagnate like herd 2 does post-separation.

    11. What time period does your fable world exist in?
19th to 20th century!! i like exploring this time period bc globalization hasnt yet set in completely, but u can see it starting in certain cities, such as shanghai in the 20th century. i think shanghai's haipai culture will influence shuò's empire some, once i write more abt it. my world is largely inspired by asian countries (mostly east asian for now, but southeast asian countries are also in my brain plans), but i think that there’s been slight western influences for hundreds of years. these influences started mostly from shuò's sculptor who was an artist who trained abroad in a european-inspired country (note shuò's wings).
in my form for #200, i implied that the sculptor was an individualistic person, so i think that came from their learning and privilege as a rare artist with a wealthy background. so the current culture of shuò's empire builds on these influences; i imagine there's a small population of european-like people (the first generation were mostly artists, but following generations branched out) who immigrated because of shuò's sculptor, and ended up building their own lives and small community there.

    12. What kind of technology is accessible to your fables?
i think of my fable world as a mirror to our world, so most things available in the 19th to 20th centuries are also present in my fable world. but with magic added!!!

    13. What architecture, landscapes, monuments, ruins, etc. decorate your fable world?
shuò's palace is a major landmark! it resembles wat rong khun! it's sat close to the center of the two countries that make up the empire, but more situated in seitō. i like to think that shuò's birth jade deposit is classified as a protected ruins, but no one really visits it besides shuò (he goes there to meditate). i think the right side (seitō again) of shuò's empire is flanked by sparkling beaches.. very pretty...
samchawon, on the left of seitō, has a mountain range on its left, where herd 4 and small farming villages are located. the continent samchawon and seitō are on has a river (the jìyìlì river) that runs almost completely from south to north, formed by an ambitious human mage in a war two hundred years ago. there's another country outside of samchawon's mountains that's also part of shuò's empire, but i'm still fleshing it out, along with the architecture of the different countries.

    14. What kind of governments control your lands? How involved are they? Do they have regulations on magic usage?
shuò's empire is the major power in the continent and there are nobility that act locally but ultimately answer to him, but it took shuò hundreds of years to get to this point. initially, nobles were very reluctant to give their power to who they simultaneously saw as their god and threat to their own power. so shuò tried to appease them by entering political marriages with partners the nobility chose, but these partners often schemed with the same nobility to try to kill shuò and take the emperor position for themselves/their own family. shuò unfortunately didn't die to any of those attempts, but the last attempt scarred him.
the assassination attempts also acted as proof of shuò's power, so as he reformed the empire's government, the nobility became more accommodating, especially as the major dissenters were already dead. as an emperor, shuò is very involved in his government, because he feels like it's his job to be, and because he feels like it's connected to his image and story.
as for magic regulations, shuò established a magic academy and built up its prestige over the course of more than a hundred years in order to softly control mages and how they use their powers. shuò is very into the idea of using soft power (also extends to his management of his image in art) to consolidate power, whereas in the past, he primarily used force to get what he wanted. a life-altering event changed his thinking!

    15. How long-lived are your fable(s)? Can fables obtain immortality in your world?
i think normal fables in my world naturally live between 100-125 years.. i think the numbers are nice because fables can experience 100 of each season. fables can extend their lives with magic or stories. i thought i knew how to answer the immortality question, but idk for certain. ik that gods have a lifespan that correlates to the continuation of their stories, but that's not immortality, because they die when their stories die (T_T
shuò has a type of magic that keeps him alive as long as he has magic within him. as soon as he doesn't have magic in his body, he'd crumble into small pieces and his soul and memories would return to the earth. he'd be immortal in the sense that a new version, with scattered memories and soul, would return one day, but that's not really him imo.
fables do have persisting effects after death in my world; they leave behind magic that flows down to the earth and reemerges in magic stones. but for more powerful, godlike fables, they leave behind their corpses that also have magic stone properties (their corpses may even become magic stones).

    16. Are there any common forms of ailments or deaths in your fables' world?
kind of? fables become ill when they have too much or too little magic. a fable with shell horns is better at guarding against having too much magic, but they feel weak and empty when there's too little magic in their horns. a fable with branch or any horn(s) that extend outwards is better at guarding against having little magic, because they're used to moving magic quickly through their horn. but they have trouble with too much magic; the failure to defend against too much magic isn't always a sickness, sometimes it's an unhealable horn breakage. i think fables with horns extending outwards are the most powerful and suited to combat, but they have drawbacks to their power, like horn breakage or worse cases.
solitary fables can become sick if they don't connect with someone to share their story, but herd 2 has immunity against this ofc. and i think the most common form of death is old age!

    17. What kind of taboos haunt your fables' world?
all of these are for my fables herds, not shuò's empire though.
herd 2 also has a specific taboo of not sharing their first name with other fables. herd 2 fables are given two names at birth, and their second name is their public name they use everywhere. by using this second name, they give themselves another defense against the power of stories, since stories cant be attached to a false name. their second names are usually words that have no meaning; when they die, their second name dies with them, being replaced with an anagram of the letters of that second name.
but tbh some herd 2 fables probably have first names that have stories attached to them, especially if their parents wanted their children to be stronger than their peers, but no one can really accuse another fable of that unless they want to commit a taboo LOL

    18. Does your world have an origin story? Does its in-world depiction differ from the actual lore?
ohh yeah i wrote this q thinking about my own lore :o
since my fictional humans are egotistical, they see the world's beginning coinciding with their god (shuò)'s beginning. shuò was imagined by humans as a dragon who protected humans against other dragons. he never actually existed outside of the collective imagination.
however, the people of the empire think that shuò is the actual god they worship, as does he; when the sculptor was working on shuò's sculpture, they convinced shuò that he was that god.
of course, with the people's worship and his diligence as a god, shuò did become that fabled god. but if he found out that he wasn't originally that god, he would be mentally shattered LOL

    19. What other kinds of creatures do fables interact with and/or live amongst in your world?
humans with magical abilities are the major species in my world, and shuò interacts with humans the most. in my lore, he doesn't really know about fables because fables tend to avoid humans! shuò's affection for humans is why herd 4 in samchawon's mountains hates him LOL. there are other fable herds in the world, but they don't have connections to shuò's empire.
also there are some dragons!! just some because they're long-lived and solitary + shuò already hunted and killed some (^_^

    20. How do others in your fable world perceive your fable(s)?
humans are somewhat scared of or on edge around shuò when they directly meet, but from afar they idolize him for various reasons (him being a god, his image in art, his role in the government, and even just for his beauty). when speaking to him for a good amount of time, shuò's audience typically feels he's dismissive and cold. while the more dense people will feel threatened by shuò's lack of respect for them, the more intuitive people will sense that shuò is testing them.
i touched already on what other fables in my world think of shuò. dragons probably feel a different range of emotions for shuò, (which is totally his fault). some may feel eager for the day they meet him, others may resent him for killing a mate/friend, etc.

    21. Do you have any symbols, motifs, or even emojis that you associate with your fable(s)?
motif for shuò: jade (the stone bc he's made of jade), blood, weaknesses (and the lack of them), humanity (and the lack of it), warmth/coldness, heart, beauty
word: jaded (he keeps distance from ppl after being betrayed by his spouses and advisors. also i love wordplay 🤩)
      emoji: 😑, 🗿, 🏛️, or 🧩? (i don't have a definitive one yet)
imagery: snakes, a defensive cat, a cold room, stones (in general but especially jade), seashells, empty beaches

    22. What does your fable(s) consider most precious, materially and/or ideologically?
shuò considers himself most important, as his creator spent countless hours crafting shuò based on their subjective ideal of beauty, and since shuò is the major god of the whole empire. his experiences with other people only strengthened his desire to protect himself.

    23. What sizes does your fable(s) come in?
shuò is 3.3 meters tall as a fable, from the top of his head (not horns) to his hooves. i based his fable height roughly on the real life statue he's inspired by + my favorite pokemon LOL
as a human, shuò's 181cm! by comparison, the taller humans of his empire are about 1.77m. i think it's funny if shuò is taller than everyone else so he can look down on them, i know he'd enjoy it 🤩

    24. Has your fable(s) encountered any life-changing events? How did your fable(s) react to them?
there's three or four life-changing events for shuò.. first one was his rise as a living god, because he could finally move around and be close to people. but the first thing he did when he could move was kill someone so, yeah..
shuò is like an empty canvas, so he learns from whatever people show him (his first concepts being godhood, beauty, and violence), and he learns quickly. while he was a statue, what impressed him most was the coldness and warmth of war. very normal reaction imo
the second life-changing event was his first ex-husband trying to kill him, but shuò was half-expecting it. what this event really does is set the course for the next 30 years (more betrayal), and the third life-changing event.
the third event is his last wife's death, because she was the one person he thought he could trust. after this event, he stops accepting political marriages. and the fourth life-changing event is becoming friends with gw (hiiii). this event reignites his interest in the world around him as a living being, rather than a god.

    25. What does your fable(s) look at their lowest and/or best?
at his lowest, shuò was cradling a dead woman (who he cleaned and redressed), waiting for the sun to rise so it could light up her face. he had wished that the sunlight could make her look alive again. but at his best, hm.. i think that was shuò when he first stood. he was at his most confident and most pure (this second attribute is debatable).
the other time i think that could be shuò's best hasn't happened yet; it''s when he accepts his feelings for color=transparent (sorry LOL, i'm having too much fun)/color, because this is shuò having fully moved on from his past, and looking toward a future he can reach. i think this version of shuò would be closest to an ideal god out of all of his iterations, because the confession would also trigger shuò's realization that he has loved his people the whole time. (love has always been there. if love hadn't been there, how could he have endured all this while..)

    26. What kind of figure or goal guides your fable(s)?
shuò's major goal is to live and endure!! the figure who guides shuò is himself, but sometimes he'll see his wife when he looks at himself, especially because the scar on his neck is her last gift to him. his secondary goal is to provide stability for himself and his empire.

    27. Does your fable(s) have any kind of work or specialty?
shuò works as an emperor, but i think his specialty helps him a lot. shuò's specialty is being a genius; he's a quick study for academics, politics, art, and combat. (but he's also 50/50 on understanding his own feelings)

    28. How does your fable(s) impact and/or interact with the world around them?
this whole questionnaire is me hyping shuò up </3 love it tho, that's my guy 🤩
shuò's impact on the world can be seen most clearly in the prosperity of his empire. i feel like it has a lot of ideal qualities, such as lucrative work for many trades (prominently painting, sculpture, metalwork, jewelry craft, and magic trades), stable economy, a decent leader, and a peaceful and protected environment.
but it's pretty funny that the "decent leader" is a god who's been ruling for more than 200 years, and he was really violent at first so he seemed like a dictator, which contrasted with the image of the god you worshiped since human history began. but he suddenly mellowed out ~170 years ago, so yay!!
shuò's actual interaction with the empire is limited, by his own choice. he really just likes to observe his people and draw his own conclusions based on what he sees. sometimes he reads newspapers for supplementary information, but he obviously lacks that nuance of truly connecting to people. usually if he talks to someone, he's just telling them to do something; he doesn't really enjoy talking because he thinks it's unneeded.

    29. Does your fable(s) have any connections to their local government? If not, are they loyal to any specific group(s)?
shuò is the emperor of his continent who retains a lot of power, so he deals mainly in directorial work. when he's not working officially, he often patrols his empire and watches the people to get a sense of what he's protecting + what kinds of things he could realistically help them with. but shuò would say he's loyal to himself </3 which is true in shuò's head, so whatever (i hate this dude)

    30. What is your fable(s)' most defining relationship?
shuò's most defining relationship is his relationship with the sculptor!! i imagine it originally was a frankenstein + the creature dynamic, with shuò playing the role of the creature. but now it's subdued because the sculptor was a human who died long before shuò could meet them. but shuò's motivations and basic character traits are based on what the sculptor murmured to themself while they were working on shuò's statue.
the sculptor had talked about how beautiful shuò was primarily, but also about how he should be the light of the two countries. the sculptor meant that as more as their belief shuò's beauty should light up the empire, but shuò now takes that idea to mean that he should be the guiding light for the empire (made up of the two countries that existed during the sculptor's time). and a word shuò really loves is "endure," which the sculptor also used often!
shuò doesn't realize it, but one of the reasons why he focuses so much on the art in his empire is because he's subconsciously filling the space in his heart where the sculptor should've been.

OBLIGATORY POST BC TWIN POSTED W/ A FIRE QUESTIONAIRE

Hello I'm Tanjiro!! I'm mostly a lurker + like to write & draw when I can + admire everyone's writing & art. It's really nice to meet you all!

    I have 2 girlbosses!!!
    Poppy & Marin
      ImageImage
Whomst I have drawn them as humans, as I am a humanoid artist one-trick T-T
    Image Image
I'll be answering the questionnaire with them!
My PMs are always open for relationships + lore building but fair warning I basically turn off all technology after I'm done w/ the workday, but I always make sure to get back to my messages!!

    Now the questions!!! ------------

    questionnaire 2 answers ✧
    1. Now that the Summer Solace nursery opened, which nursery has been your favorite? Which reiteration are you looking forward to most next?
I didn't know of the nurseries til now whoops :"")

    2. Have you found any new favorite fables in the time since the last questionnaire?
      ImageImageImageImage
Some quick ones that caught my eye - I really do love all designs the designs, every artists' style is so unique <333

    3. Do you think there are any similarities amongst your favorite fables, such as shared traits, colors, themes, or stories?
I love blended color palettes! Also a sucker for nature themed designs. Story-wise I loveeee reading lengthy lore, I enjoy reading everyones writing <3

    4. What kinds of fable prompts and/or design inspirations do you want to see next, or even repeated?
My fav prompts are the storyline lore prompts such as the adventure prompt. & piggy-backing off of everyone else, the tapestry prompt seems really fun too! I tend to develop my characters best when I'm storytelling so I find these prompts the most inspiring! I also love these kind of prompts as you can simultaneously develop your fable & the world.

    5. What would you like to see for the species' first anniversary?
Anything,, I am here for the ride (I'm so lame at answering these question's sorry T-T)

    6. Do you have any favorite lore prompts?
The June ocean adventure one because I wrote a NPC story and then gave up on completing it & was going to just let the NPC story fade away as a one-shot. I ended up winning that raffle, so that NPC ended up becoming Marin! With a more fleshed-out lore ofc.

    7. Did you accomplish any of the plans you wrote about in the last questionnaire?
Yesss I wanted to finish the CS pages for my fables!

    8. Any updates on your fables, plans for fables, MYOs, new art, etc. that you want to share?
      > ONE DAY I will finish toyhouse codes! But knowing me I'm gonna procrastinate that forever orz
      > I also plan on drawing Poppy & Shuo as they have a fun friendship, the thought of drawing anatomy & angles daunts me a lil bit,,
      > I struggle w/ balancing my irl hobbies w/ my online hobbies, so consistent writing & art are not my strong points unfortunately... I hope one day I'll crochet an outfit inspired by my fables tho!

    9. Do you have any guiding idea(s) or inspiration(s) for your fable lore? (like the abstract idea of gods, or inspiration from other media or your interests)
I have 2 main established AU's that aren't Fables related, but I'm really attached to them. One is a futuristic/cyberpunk world that's loosely based off of my favorite shows (Arcane, Mr.Robot, etc), & one that's fantasy based. I've been building these worlds for the past 3 years now so it's kinda hard for me to start a new one w/fables so I'm loosely taking inspo from my worlds. (Basically I'm taking inspo from my inspo's inspo,, inspo-ception).

As for fables + sometimes the lore prompts, I base their personality based off of what the prompts are. (for example Poppy's original prompt was about being mistaken for a potion-maker by an impatient customer, so Poppy's personality is that she's a shady saleswoman who sells fake potions)

    10. What kinds of groups exist in your fable lore? (guilds, herds, nobility, opposing political factions, etc.)
I'd imagine opposing factions! Nobility definitely exists as Marin is born into nobility, but I haven't had much thought about the rest. Also my fables exist in the same lore as Shuo's world (magic, so I'm kinda mooching off of Ruse's worldbuilding (thx btw <33) so magic is directly associated with Fable's horns

    11. What time period does your fable world exist in?
*Points at Ruse* Same as theirs (thx btw <33)
I'm also pretty vague on the details so that they can fit into any time period

    12. What kind of technology is accessible to your fables?
Marin's family has some kind of fuel that powers ships, but also that runs on magic more than technology itself.

    13. What architecture, landscapes, monuments, ruins, etc. decorate your fable world?
      *Points at Ruse*
(jk I haven't thought this out yet)
There's a magical island, and 2 cities but the things that exist in my head are hard to put into tangible words -.-

    14. What kind of governments control your lands? How involved are they? Do they have regulations on magic usage?
Most lands are democracy based. Marin is part of nobility but their family only has indirect influence on the government through their inventions. Marin has to involve herself quite a bit to advocate for conservation.
There's regulations on magic usage but not enough regulations to stop Poppy's mortal scams...

    15. How long-lived are your fable(s)? Can fables obtain immortality in your world? (follow-up q: do fables have any persisting effects after death?)
Poppy 'swindled death so hard she was banned from heaven & hell, effectively making her immortal.' As inspired by her involvement in my entry for Fable 300, so immortality can be achieved if you're as infuriating as Poppy xD

    16. Are there any common forms of ailments or deaths in your fables' world?
In my entry for Fable 300, hell gives PTO to their employees, so I'd imagine burnout is also real in my fable worlds </3

    17. What kind of taboos haunt your fables' world?
Buying fake magic potions from Poppy means you're really gullible </3 Or that you're not a local </3

    18. Does your world have an origin story? Does its in-world depiction differ from the actual lore?
My world's origin story is from the lore prompts! The regions itself are accurate to the actual lore, with it existing in Ruse's world too.

    19. What other kinds of creatures do fables interact with and/or live amongst in your world?
Marin can talk to sea creatures! But she tries to avoid conversation with crustaceans, as they tend to be "crabby" & "shell-fish" (heh nice one... high fives self)

    20. How do others in your fable world perceive your fable(s)?
Poppy - shady saleswoman. Some hate her for her dishonestly & some find her iconic as she's a really unique character. Also she's a pretty good listener as she doesn't have the capacity to judge ppl for their immoral actions
Marin - Many see her as controversial for going against nobility traditions, but a handful of people admire her dedication for conservation

    21. Do you have any symbols, motifs, or even emojis that you associate with your fable(s)?
Marin 🌊🌊🌊 Anything ocean related!! (Hobbies yap time) A year ago I crocheted this ocean themed dress, so now I associate it with Marin! I lovingly call it the Marin dress sometimes.

Poppy's is the snake 🐍, I love the term snake-oil bc I can definitely be talked into buying some literal snake oil.

    22. What does your fable(s) consider most precious, materially and/or ideologically?
Poppy loves gold jewelry! It looks good on her & she's pretty in it so it's the most precious to her.
Marin doesn't value material goods, but making the idea of co-existing with nature a reality would mean the most to her.

    23. What sizes does your fable(s) come in? (feel free to include heights for human form too)
I can't decide whether I want to make Poppy comically small or comically big LOLLLL
Marin is average height for the region of Cenones, so around 5'4 in human form.

    24. Has your fable(s) encountered any life-changing events? How did your fable(s) react to them?
    25. What does your fable(s) look at their lowest and/or best?
Marin at her lowest: cynical and tunnel-visioned, working herself until overexertion. Tends to steamroll outside perspective & ideas.
Marin at her best: presents her ideas rationally, able to incorporate outside perspective into her own. Becomes a positive influence on others, like the ocean on a nice sunny day.

      Poppy at her lowest: Image
      Poppy at her best: Image

    26. What kind of figure or goal guides your fable(s)?
Marin looks up to her father, who is influential yet humble & taught her to value her curiosity & knowledge. I thought her having a healthy bond w/ one of her parents would be really cute, & Marin is the type who would want to influence others positively also! She's inspired by people + friends who have been really kind to me during my younger years

Poppy looks up to herself

-cutting the rest out for now as I've ran out of energy T-T but maybe will add later!-
