The Olympics so far.. Well.
Japan and China are doing surprisingly well in competitive swimming. I guess they haven't wasted the four years they had before Rio, huh?
USA... No surprise. They always do well. Although I think team GB are lacking slightly.
I'm looking forward to see Michael Phelps' 200m butterfly! C:
Oh, and did you see the opening ceremony? It was rather.. Interesting. Brazilians sure do have some awesome creativity.
So far I'm just watching the swimming technique and comparing their times to mine. I thinks it a bit too early to compare times at the moment though, but I like to aim high x3.
-
Yep! PB means personal best, which is well.. Your best time c:
-
How do I plan to get there? Well, I'm a dedicated person, and I plan to keep it that way so I can earn my way to the top. I'm a sprinter, but I push myself to do a good long distance every once in a while.. and my coach also highly encourages it, which means the club and I do it in training a lot. Diet, stretching and sleep (even though I'm sorta lacking ) is also something I have to be strict with, even drinking plenty of water helps with performance in training and keeps your mindset focused.
Speaking about mindset, I need to work on it. I'm a very competitive person, and being last in one race can make me become very negative which makes my performance drop for the races ahead. It's a barrier I need to overcome, and I know I'll become so much better when I do.
(Y'know, I wouldn't mind that at all. I'll be like 'hey sola!' Tehe x3)
-
Fitbit? Strangely I've never hear of it.

Oooh. There's a speedo one which I saw not long ago when I was surfing (no pun intended) around FaceBook.
It looks smart, although I personally wouldn't want to swim with it.
Yuh. I’m not particularly active on this anymore.

What you currently do: Swimming (just recreational stuff, although I'm looking to see about competing)
What you have done: I learned to swim in the sea, but I started swimming in a pool last week. I live in Ireland, so I mainly learned to swim over the years I've gone on holidays in Croatia. I can't really swim in my area- I live by the sea but the water is always freezing and there's a dangerous current close to the shore.
What you want to do: I want to learn more strokes and maybe try and enter a few competitions. When I'm an adult I would like to try open water swimming- swimming in the pool is wonderful, but for me it doesn't beat the sea.
What got you into it: I have always swam on holidays and, being a decent swimmer who enjoys the water, considered going to the pool as a habit. It never really became a habit though, until I was diagnosed with scoliosis. Apart from receiving specific exercises, I was encouraged to do swimming by the doctor. Ever since I've started swimming regularly, I've noticed an enormous difference. My entire body has benefited, both physically and mentally.
Advice you'd give to people interested in the same sport(s): I don't have much advice to give yet. I'm not the best when it comes to advice.

Favorite parts: Everything!
Least favorite parts: I don't really have any peeves about swimming.
What do you want to discuss the most on this thread? What interests you best?: Learning more about swimming and hearing people's different experiences with water sports.

Anyway, hello!

Curse: This is the one I use: here. It is quite comfortable and good at getting information back to me. c: At first I thought it would be too much, like extra bells and whistles that you don't really need. But since I've started using it, I've found it's great to have objective data to review after each swim.

I'm so impressed at the age range of the Olympians o: Seeing people as young as 15-16 up there wows me.

apart: Welcome!! =D I was very much in your situation not too long ago; wanting to swim but not really being the "athlete" type. I'll definitely have a lot to tell you if you have questions about anything, and the other members of this club will too. ^_^ Hope you'll stay around for awhile.

I'm a fellow scoliosis victim, haha. What's your curve? Mine is like... almost 30º? I had to wear a Boston brace for it as a high schooler, so fun right? *eyetwitch* Thank goodness I got away with using it at night, I did not want my friends knowing about that... x'D But swimming worked wonders on me! My back, even my lower back with the curve, has gotten so strong! I would definitely make swimming your priority if you want some scoliosis relief. I kind of forget I have it, even, thanks to the mix of treatment through the brace and my ever-increasing athleticism c:

@sola
Wow, surprisingly, it looks extremely easy to use..
I was watching the advertisement for it and it never really caught my eye until it showed the Olympic swimmer comparison, I'm not sure how else to describe it. Anyways, not really a surprise. Anything that mentions the word 'Olympic' I just go crazy for it XD. I'm still not a big fan of swimming with something on my wrist, how does it feel when you're swimming? And is it comfortable when you finish the swim (touching the wall)? I tend to use a lot of force when I'm finishing the butterfly, most of the strength actually comes from my arms. Meanwhile my legs.. They don't do so well. Just means there's plenty of room for improvement, which is great from my perspective.
-
You suffer scoliosis? And you do an intense sport like swimming? A ton of respect to you!
I don't have any sort of injury, apart from a slight rotation muscle problem. But that's very common for an athlete.
It's healing well, but it's nothing compared to the problem you have to suffer.

@apart
A warm welcome to you!
I'm actually a bit of an open water swimmer myself, but I prefer the pool since I'm more of a short distance swimmer. I'm actually going to compete for British open water soon. I came third place in my age group, which I wasn't expecting so I was pretty proud of myself c:

Edit;;
I'm really.. Annoyed at how team GB are doing. And the commentators are making things worst by acting like they're the best in the Olympics XD
Anyways, I was watching the synchronized diving, and wow. GB was close to third place, but after the final dive, they became fifth. Arghhhh.
Meanwhile China are just so.. Amazingggg.
This was the 'Woman's synchronized diving 10m platform' competition by the way if anyone is interested.

What you currently do: I swim on a swim team!

What you want to do: I know this sounds cheesy but I'd like to try to be an olympian one day <3
What got you into it: when I first moved to my house when I was 2 it had a swimming pool
Advice you'd give to people interested in the same sport(s):

Favorite parts: I really like breaststroke - it's probably my favorite stroke
Least favorite parts: I don't like backstroke, it's really hard to control my movement
What do you want to discuss the most on this thread? What interests you best?: I'd love to talk to older and a bit more experienced swimmers- I'm not an adult yet but I'm not that young XD

Say hi! c:

I love you oml. XD
I also hope to become an Olympic swimmer one day.
Anyways, a warm welcome to you, fellow dreamer c:!!!!
Breaststroke is also one of my favourite stokes, although I'm a bigger fan of the IM.

I'd say I'm quite experienced for my age.
I've only been doing proper competitive swimming for a year, but my Olympic dream came in about two-three years ago. I've gotten so far in the year I had. So do not underestimate the curse >:)

Anyways, have you done open water before?
What achievements you proud of?
