Castanea

Postby Wolf&Dog Lover » Thu Jul 21, 2011 4:50 am

Edit: So unfortunately it looked like I'm not going to get this completed for judging I've had such a busy week I haven't had the chance to work on my form. I'll see if I can squeeze in some more of the story before judging but with only 2 pieces of art I'm not sure I have much of a chance anyways. :3
I originally meant for her to be male but when I found the name it fitted nicely with the design but it wasn't a male name. x3 I might make this my only entry and scrap the other one, I'm not sure if I like it and I definetely like this one more.
I added in some aardwolf inspired stripes and a few honeyish coloured strandsof fur to her lighter underside.
Name:
Castanea
Castanea means Chestnut in Latin.

Gender:
Female

Age:
7 years old

Tribe:
Hakari

Rank:
Scholar

Mask
Castanea mask is based on the head of an animal know as a scimitar horned oryx, a creature known by it's characteristically long and slightly curved horns. Painted onto it in dried green plant sap is a symbol which Castanea chose because it resembles a plant from it's roots to its leaves: something that reflects her favoured element, earth. The mask itself is made from wood that has been bleached(not the household cleaner though x3) a creamy white and then shaped to resemble the scimitar horned oryx before finally having the horn like protrusions at the back coated in a grey liquid substance that hardened shortly after. The black eye sockets aren't actually holes but painted on and there are small piercings on either side of the mask just above her eyes for the green ribbons to loop through and secure the mask to her head by wrapping around her ears.

Personality:

Distant
Castanea has a very quiet demeanour and prefers to watch events from afar rather than get involved herself. She's almost detached from her pack-mates and appears to be aloof and cold through her silence. Despite the distance she puts between herself and those around her, during times of trouble or battle she knows she needs to band together with her pack and defend their home.

Withdrawn
Castanea keeps to herself and prefers peace, quiet and above all solitude. She likes to put the silence and absence of others to good use and spends the time mulling over dilemmas and decisions but mostly on her past. She pretends that she is analyzing her history to get better acquainted with herself but what she's really doing is going over everything she's ever done wrong or failed at seeking to change that which she cannot.

Guarded
Castanea is slow when it comes to trusting and opening herself up to another and she rarely allows her emotions to be easily gleaned from her features or actions. She becomes reserved when it comes down to socialization with those of her pack as she is reluctant to say something that may be used against her in the future.

Courteous

Humble
Castanea never boasts about one of her skills and seeks to downplay any of her positive qualities or attributes if they ever happen to be brought up in discussion. The thing she never attempts to diminish is her flair over the elements as a scholar, but she doesn't often tal of this particular subject and never claims it to be something it's not.

Determined

Lack of faith in self

Respectful
Castanea knows her place and regards the alpha, betas and elders in her pack in the highest esteem, showing the elders full consideration and paying attention to everything they say to her and carrying out the alpha and betas orders with strict obedience.

Brief (or not) History:
My life began in the most perfect way, I was the daughter of two doting parents, I had a small amount skill in the other 2 elements of my tribe with a specific flair in Earth, a fact that destined me along the path to become a scholar. I was a cheerful pup who could get along with anyone even if I did end up stepping on their nerves eventually.
Then one day my whole world twisted in on itself and imploded.
~***~
I padded stealthily through the long thick grass, excitement and adrenaline pulsing through my veins. This was my first chance to prove myself as a full member of my tribe, my first hunt since I became a scholar and shedded my trainee title. My dark brown paws brushed aside the fine strands of grass as the currents of air around me brought along a scent which told me one thing.
My prey was close.
I weaved through the surrounding brush, each plant bending away from me as I neared, a small display of my power in the Earth element but at the same time a practical solution to prevent nearby creatures becoming alerted to my presence if per say I snapped a branch or my fur snagged in a bush.
I paused at a point where a pair of dry, brown and half-dead brambles entertwined and meshed to block the path before me. A quick sniff of the air was enough to tell me that my victim wasn't far ahead of these brambles, so using them to my advantage I once again tapped into the elemental power within me and made the hooked vines untangle and create a gap through which I had a clear view of a sun-dappled clearing, in which stood something I had never laid eyes on before, yet had been stalking all morning.
The strange animal's build was not unlike that of the mysterious glowdeer, though it didn't have the same majestic and graceful bearing of the glowdeer. Two long and sweeping dark horns protruded from between its ears and its hide was of a medium grey colouring. Something about this animal awed me into pausing in the formation of my plan and caused another part of my mind to come up with an alternative while the first and more practical mindset struggled to catch up.
I count the ways I let you down
On my fingers and toes but I'm runnin’ out
Clever words can’t help me now
I keep you tight but you're slipping out
And I remember your eyes were so bright,
When I first met you, so in love that night
And now I'm kissin’ your tears goodnight,
And I can't take it, you're even perfect when you cry
