Pennant - Bay Rabicano

Postby Bayfire213 » Fri Jun 19, 2015 12:16 pm

Finally, finally got Oekaki to cooperate with me. As for why his mane and tail are the way they are, the warm colors are from all the time he'd spent outside- sun bleached. My real-life mare's mane and tail are much the same, long as they are and loath as she is to come indoors, and since I was working with her shortly before starting this boy, well... What can I say? They're both bay. As for the white on his tail, that comes from the rabicano. Not quite sure how the dock would actually look shaved, white fur typically meaning pink skin, while darker colors hint at black, mixed often mottled- which is what I was aiming for, but it might be a bit of a hit-and-miss on that point.

As for that odd little circle-Nazi-thing in green, it's actually supposed to be two symbols combined into one. Jera and -of course- a circle. Most people are familiar with at least one of the many meanings of a circle- continuation, unity, balance, completion, eternity, protection, so on and so forth. The circle is a fairly well known thing. Jera, on the other hand, is from the runic alphabet of Elder Futhark. It follows along the vein of peace, prosperity, good harvest, promise of success, hard work paying off, and a 'reap what you sow' sort of thing. Together I'd meant for them to mean something akin to 'continued success, protect the peace, and work together in unity', the last being a nod to the bond between horse and rider. Not entirely how peaceful it is considering these are war horses, but everyone needs something to fight for, no?

Green marks spreading from the chest are meant to be a stylized cross between these;
