Oh my goodness, my internet has crashed not one, not two, but 4 times as I tried to complete this entry. ^^ I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it. I absolutely love tempestines. They may be one of my favorite species on Chicken Smoothie, I have tried for months to win on in an adoption, but so far I have been very unlucky- there are so many creative and wonderful people on CS that deserve them over me and clearly they won out =P
So, I would like to say that I spent a lot of time before starting this just looking over all the tempestines that have been made before, there are many beautiful ones- I looked over all the markings and coat patterns and overall couldn't seem to find the appropriate inspiration so I went riding out with my favorite horse at my local ranch. And as I was watching all the pretty horses I picked up on a couple of ideas. I am going to explain each one in turn ^^
1. Piebald/ Steel or Iron Grey Paint:
So this template was inspired by a horse named Popeye, Popeye is actually Skewbald but the way his white works looks somewhat similar to the way I drew it. I don't know, take it as you will, I quite like the 1st one. I used a slightly off white base and put two shades of gray for the splotches that make up the paint markings. I chose to do the tail and antlers in a less gray shade, I felt that it was too grayscale so I added Tan to keep it neutral and yet not boring.
2. Flaxen Appaloosa:
Not based off anything, but I feel flaxen horses are less common and more interesting then a plain chesnut. The colors are all within the same sort of chesnutty/brown range. I like it like that, I haven't done much appaloosa dappling before now. The markings never look quite right when I do then, I still don't think they do, but I tried, marring the white a little with chesnut to give it a more authentic look to it.
3. Buckskin:
I can't say much, I just wanted to experiment with the tiger stripe and the leg markings, I guess he looks a little like Spirit eh? ^^
4. Blue Roan:
Based off my horse Zane, the blue roan is a little fail, but it is a lovely color, I love how horses can come in unnatural colors like blue without being an obnoxious blue, just right at blue-gray. I chose to mix the tail and mane colors up a little to give it a little zany (not related to my horse) look and make it look nice within the rules of tempestine coloring.
So thats all I have to say so far. I really LOVE tempestines and I was so excited to see this comp. I am so excited to see the winners and I really hope I have a shot because frankly I am in love with tempestines and I would die to be an artist. I hope that didn't sound rude :S
