It would be nice to keep at least a small amount of the Creators original idea, but no.
(theres also more then just a Dog, theres a Rabbit, Cat, Bear and more!)

To give you an Official AnswerTM:
We're mainly looking for proficient use of the base in the Oekaki so most of your entries should be that way.
If you wanted to draw an entry in your own style off or on Oekaki you definitely can! But it would be considered more of a add-on than an actual entry.
So yes you can draw it in your own style but we're looking more at ones done on the base.
