Redbird confessing his love for Skysong. It goes something like this:
"Er, Skysong?" Redbird trotted toward her awkwardly.
"Hmm?" She said as she turned to look at him, and she noticed the flower he carried in this teeth.
"I, er, I..."
"Thank you, but that's not an herb we use here," she said.
"Wh-what?" Redbird asked, confused.
"You know," she swiped her tail around the den, "for healing? That's why you brought it, right?"
"Er, no," he blushed. "I brought it for you."
"Oh." It was Skysong's turn to blush.
"I knew you liked flowers. I saw you sniffing some in the meadow the other day."
"Thank you," she smiled as she took it from him. "It's beautiful."
They stared at each other in silence for a while, until Skysong spoke.
"Um, well, if that's all, I suppose I should get back to work."
"Yeah," Redbird said lamely, as Skysong turned back to her work.
"Wait," he said finally. Skysong turned back toward him.
"I... I.."
"Well?"
"I love you!" He finally spit out, and blushed hard.
Skysong was stunned, and they stared at each other for a few awkward moments.
"Sorry," Redbird backed away shyly. "I didn't mean to-"
"No," Skysong interrupted with a smile, "don't apologize." She blushed a little.
"I love you too.
This kind of reminds me of a situation I got myself into, though Redbird and Skysong's encounter is slightly less awkward, and had a better ending. With me, the guy was a good friend, and though I knew something was on his mind that he wouldn't mention, I wasn't expecting the question "Do you want to go out with me?" to be it. So when he popped it, I couldn't think of anything to say, until I squeaked out a long string of incoherent words. So yeah. It didn't go well.
