Interlude sat alone in the large open field. There were no sounds, not the whisper of the wind between the branches of the trees, not the sweet song of birds as they called out to their fellows, nothing but his own heartbeat, and the eerie stillness that relaxed every muscle in his body. He sat, and waited for the storm to come. He could feel the clouds slowly rolling in behind him, and he listened as the first fat raindrops casually plopped out of the sky. Soon, he knew, there would be more, harder, faster drops, then thunder, then lightning. The inevitable chaos after the calm. Interlude sat in the field until the sun rose again the next morning. Drying out the last drops of last nights mysterious beauty, never knowing the peace the clouds brought.

Interlude gazed out the window, the sun bright and hot on his face. Wind whipped past, gently brushing his face as they drove. His ears perked up as the radio started playing I'm Going Home. How fitting, he thought. He was going home, his new home.
"She's going to love you!" said the man driving in a sing-song voice. But will I love her? Interlude asked of no one in particular. He hoped she would be nice. He hoped he would be able to at least get along with her other animals. He hoped that he got to explore. He hoped it wasn't too loud in the city. He gently lay his head down on his paws to rest, lost in a sea of hopes.

"Wake up Ludy, your home," called the man in the same sing-song voice. Interlude groggily opened his eyes, momentarily forgetting where he was. When he remembered his ears perked slightly. Finally something different that the endless road. He never liked driving, too fast, not enough time to really see everything; all of the world's beauty. Just a boring, meaningless blur. The car door opened behind him and he watched as the man mindlessly hummed and unloaded his few possessions: dog bed, squeak toy, treat bag.
When he was finished the man gestured for Interlude to step out. He did. The ground was hard and his clawed feet gently clacked as he stepped on it. He was momentarily stunned by all the noise. He leaped at the harsh sound of squealing tires. What kind of place was this?
"I told you you'd love it!" Smiled the man, petting Interlude between the ears. Oblivious man, he thought. Can he not tell I'm scared out of my wits? The man picked up his stuff and started off walking. Interlude decided not to protest and followed along carefully.

The man took Interlude into a tall building and into the elevator. He barely took any notice to the familiar lurch as they traveled upwards. Unlike many other dogs he loved elevators. He often used them back at the Home. He knew how to work the buttons too. At least that was something familiar.
They exited the elevator and the man proceeded down a long hall. Not much longer until he would meet his new owner. 6 more steps. 5, a loud ringing noise came from the man's jacket. 4, he fumbled around his pocket. 3, pulled out a cellphone. 2. answered it. 1, the door swung open in front of them revealing a young woman with long blonde hair. She was holding her cellphone to her ear like the man. "WILL!" she exclaimed as she threw her arms around his neck.

Will returned her embrace. It seemed like eons before they finally parted. "Is he here?" the woman was grinning wildly. He motioned down to Interlude who was sitting peacefully beside him. "Oh, he is beautiful!" she squealed as she crouched down and pet Interlude. He gently pushed up against her hand, loving the feeling of being pet. He felt so comfortable. like everything had just gotten a lot lighter.
"He's perfect, Will." She stood, and placed a small kiss on Will's cheek. "What's his name?" she looked at him eagerly.
Will looked down at Interlude who was happily wagging his tail and making a soft cooing noise, "Interlude."

SO there you go. The story was originally for a tracker dog I tried for (didn't get) of the same name. I have been meaning to do something with it for a while. I edited it a bit so it fit this charrie.
His markings are based partly on a Savannah cat (chest, tail and leg) a bit of red panda (face) and a music note 'cause you wanted it. (32nd note) I think that's all. Hope you like!
