so i decided why not just go full fanon nonsense and give my warrior cats ocs a functioning writing system

its like the earliest versions of cuneiform, mostly for organization and accounting, primarily using rocks hitting rocks as well as careful shearing with teeth (basically gnawing at the rock at certain angles to indicate subject or purpose of statement). i often forget these cats can like. learn to operate doors and construct fully functional housing but.... writing systems are very hard to formulate i feel, especially when you literally can walk 10 minutes to talk to the farthest person worth talking to ig?
but since these cats have larger and further spread territories, it became worth it to form methods of communicating crucial information over long distances, especially things you generally want to be kept private, like trade info. thus, a basic cuneiform writing system with which to indicate supply levels and trade requests. actual trade is pretty rare since youd usually be seen as desperate to resort to it, but the city clans are a little more comfortable with it.
anyway, such a system needs an inventor, and while the basic idea was already circulating, Nettlefall was the one who fully put together a form of writing that didnt require too many moving parts, or anything a cat wouldnt generally have access to. he was a very timid cat from before the original american clans split, so he was able to introduce his writing system to a large portion of cats before a whole bucnh of drama broke out. hes been kinda slandered at the point of Badgerfur's time, but i havent really bothered to figure out what ACTUALLY happened lololol. but basically it made everyone kinda :\ about the writing system, and so most of the clans decided to only really let one or two cats learn the system (as their own rank, similar to medicine cats). this also kinda helps with the trade thing since the people delivering the message wont necessarily know what it says. but its also prevented the writing system from changing much. Badgerfur as leader of Themisclan i think would start trying to learn it and maybe teach all of Themisclan.
starclan isnt reaaaaaaally a thing in the american clans anymore but i could think Nettlefall still believed in it so he gets to be in starclan as a cool cameo :D but i think he and Badgerfur should be friends

i just learned about og cuneiform and rewatched twisted the musical lolololololol
im gonna make a post about the general structure of the american clans both pre and post split at some point, its been fun thinking of how it would work out :P
