the air is cold on her nose,
twitching with the newfound scent
of another dusk.
night falls around her territory
her pride, her joy, her home
in which all animals,
(from the marmot to the badger in their burrows
to the butterflies that sit sleeping still, dormant under leaves)
revere her divine protection;
her howls that drive away
the darkness
and the fear—
for with her she brings light.
