Here's the September birthstone. Sapphire is another one of the four 'precious gemstones'.

A Sapphire is in a the same family as Rubies and it can be any color other than red. Any Sapphire that isn't blue is called by the color it is and is a 'fancy Sapphire'.

The English word for Sapphire is taken from Latin word 'sapphirus', 'sappirus' from Greek σαπφειρος (sappheiros), from Hebrew סַפִּיר (sappir). Some say it is derived from Sanskrit 'Shanipriya' (शनिप्रिय), which literally means 'Dear to Saturn'.

Sapphire was one of the twelve precious stones set in the breastplate of the High Priest of Israel.

The Sapphire was called the "Stone of Destiny". They provide mental clarity and perception.

Sapphires are a symbol of power, love, healing, Heaven, and devotion.
