Story:
"You want to hear a story from me?" she wondered as she sat by the fire with a group of other adventurers, who came to the tavern for something to eat, drink or sleep or even perhaps all three.
She looked around, she was sitting with a human, a gnome and another wolf, they all nodded in agreement for her to tell a story from one of her many adventures that she had endured.
"Alright.... This was one of my first adventures, I was a simple farmer in the lands of Akraba which had rolling hills and some of the best land to grow food. It was when our village was attacked and burned to the ground was when I decided to leave. The orcs, goblins and other dark mystical creatures came every night to steal our food that grew from our lush crops. It was during winter when the land fell ill, we couldn't keep the creatures at bay and we couldn't grow any crops, not even with magic." she sighed at the memories that had caused her to venture out into the world, no matter how devastating it was.
She continued on to tell the rest of her adventure by the blazing bonfire, embers sparked in the air as the fire crackled beneath. "I was sent out by the head of our people to go scout for a rare plant found in a nearby land. Legends told it could restore anything from deceased creatures to perhaps restoring the land. I was sent out with another wolf as we couldn't spare any more townsfolk due to the war with the orcs and goblins. The land wasn't that far away, we were given a map to lead us to the plant which was located in the lands of Ourak. Unfortunately, that land went beyond the borders of the light... This meant that the land belongs to the orcs and other dark creatures. We had no time to spare, so we left an hour after we were assigned to our mission. The wolf I was paired up with was a brown and black wolf with white spots on his paws. I have only spoken to him a few times while selling him seeds and vegetables. We travelled across rolling hills, trencherous mountain paths to get to the forsaken lands. It was a breeze to get to the lands, to us it was a blessing. Nowadays it seems like something was off. We entered into the lands of the orcs, what shocked us was that they had skeletons of our people to show where the border was. The skeletons still had decomposing flesh and flies buzzing around. Maggots crawled on the dry bones and onto the floor. The putrid smell of death and decay filled the air as I dry reached, almost throwing up from the vile stench. We had finished the first part of the trek into the unknown, now we must search for the plant and take it back to our people. The wolf and I had became good friends on this journey, while we travelled across the lands. We ventured across the borders into the vile land. All that was there were stones and debris from past civilization. The cold stones pierced the pads of my feet, I had to continue on. There was no sight of an orc or any life in fact. I was concerned on how there was not an orc in sight. Back then I was grateful that there wasn't an orc but now I knew something was terribly wrong. I paid no mind to it as I was a new adventurer. We voyaged on, scouting for the plant when suddenly I saw it at the base of the mountain. There was also a goblin there, with blood stained armor and dark green skin. Goblins were shorter than orcs but twice as deadly. The goblin carried two swords with steel protruding from the metal. The wolf who was called Uro called out to me, he told me to grab the plant and run. I did exactly what he told me, while he was battling with the goblin, I scratched at the base of the plant. I was trying my best not to damage the roots of the small plant that had blue magic swirling around it. I finally picked up the plant and held it in my mouth. The taste of vile dirt filled my mouth, I couldn't spit it out as it was the salvation of my people. Uro had finished the battle with a few scratches that were bleeding with scarlet red blood. The goblin was against a sledge of stone, either unconscious or dead. He told me he was fine, so we travelled back to the village. By the time we were there it was early dawn, it seemed to be around 3 perhaps 4 o'clock, however we were too late. Masses of orcs and goblins were attacking our village. I hurried up and tried to find the leader, he was gathered around with the majority of the town and was telling them instructions. Some of them fled the town while most stayed to fight the onslaught of orcs and goblins. I finally reached the towns leader, he seemed panicked and told me to hide the plant as it could do catastrophic consequences of damage as well as healing, if it gets into the wrong hands. He had found old scrolls that told the fate of an old town, the one that was near the border of the dark creatures territory. It was told that it would heal if they found them worthy, or cause destruction if there were unfit for the plant. I hid the plant were no one would find it, not a single soul. I looked around the town, crops were on fire in the fields beyond, farmers had gathered up farming tools to use against the orcs and goblins. I nearly thought we could survive against the attack...." she sighed as a tear trickled down the fluff of her cheek. The memory was still painful even though it happened many years ago.
She continued on to finish her story up. "They broke through the barriers, leaving us nearly defenseless. We were simple farmers with only a few soldiers to help guard us, alas that wasn't enough to stop the oncoming onslaught. By the early morning there was nothing left, half of the village people had died or missing either by the dark creatures or by the fire. There was a small party of orcs to finish off the slaughter, it was the very first time I had fought, let alone kill an orc. I grabbed a pitchfork while they came for us, they had body armor and razor-sharp swords and axes. Three orcs came towards the small group of village people that I was trying to protect. I held the pitchfork slanted against the ground, the orcs didn't notice it until one of them was impaled. I dropped it as it landed with a giant thud on the ground, with the corpse of an deceased orc. I pounced on one of the two remaining orcs, biting down, trying to sink my teeth in its thick leathery skin. It was thrashing, trying to get me off from its back, but I held my ground. Finally, my teeth had sunk into the flesh of the orc, my mouth was filled with black foul tasting ichor. The orc shrilled in pain as i punctured the back of its neck, with a decent sized bite mark. I spat the bitter ichor out however that gave time for the orc to throw me off from its back. I smashed against the ground with the wind knocked out of me. I was dazed as I laid against the debris of an house, the simmering embers burning into my fur, burning patches of it away. The brute of an orc strode towards me with its axe trailing behind, causing a ear-splitting screeching sound. I thought it was over for me, I had a good life and I was ready to accept death however it wasn't the end for me. Another wolf from the village, a dear friend of mine, rose up from the debris, he was covered in dirt, soot and blood. He had an injured front leg as he limped towards the orc. He growled menacingly as he lunged at the dark creature, fighting with the last of his strength. I only saw part of the fight as I was still recovering from my fall, back then my body was frail and delicate. I only planted and sold crops, I never did any of the heavy-duty work as I was still in training. By the time I mustered all of my remaining strength that I had left, the fight was over. The wolf had sacrificed his life for mine, the orc had died from blood loss. For the duration of the long lasting battle, I had forgotten about the other orc, I ran around frantically looking for the last of the survivors but I had failed to find any. I was the last surviver of my village." She had finished telling her heart-breaking story to the group, while she was telling it more people had gathered, wanting to listen to an story to finish the night off.
The other wolf that was sitting next to her asked curiously, with her head tilted side ways. "What happened to the last orc?"
She held her gaze and strongly affirmed to what she had to say. "To this day, I still hunt for that orc, over my other journeys, I had gathered intelligence about the remaining orc. It turns out the last orc at my village was in fact the commander, the one that ordered the destruction of my village. I swear to get vengeance for my fallen friends, family and my village." The fire had dwindled down into coal with embers simmering down. The tavern was starting to close down for the night since it was almost 3am in the morning. She needs her rest for the day that was yet to come as she was still on the trail of the orc. The rest of the people had gone as she sat there pondering for an hour or two after the stories. She got up from the warmth of the fire and walked slowly away to the rooms that the tavern had, she had prepaid her room with 50 gold coins that she had acquired earlier. She laid down of the soft beds as she waited for slumber to take her to a new day.
