There is a gene that dilutes both the Black [Eumelanin] Pigment and Red or “Chestnut” [Phaeomelanin] pigment. This gene called the Cream gene, is typically symbolized by the letter Cr. The Cream gene has Incomplete Dominance, meaning that having one copy of the gene looks different than having two copies of it. Having a single copy [Crcr] of the cream gene will lighten the coat. Having two copies [CrCr] of the cream gene lightens the coat, skin and eyes.
In Chestnuts
A single cream gene in a chestnut horse results in a Palomino. They have light brown eyes and dark skin.
Two cream genes in a chestnut horse results in a Cremello. They have blue eyes and pink skin.
In Bays

Two cream genes in a bay horse results in a Perlino. They have blue eyes and pink skin.
In Blacks
A single cream gene in a black horse results in a Smoky Black. They have light brown eyes and dark skin.
Two cream genes in a black horse results in a Smoky Cream. They have blue eyes and pink skin.
