Short Story:
Astraeus was a long forgotten god who's power was to tame the wind. He'd been nicknamed the "Father of the Wind" for many centuries. He was patient, resourceful, observant, and clever. But he was also obsessive, skeptical, and overall greedy. Astraeus's life was boring, plain, and simple, even for a god. Each day drug on and on for him. However, one day, his greed got the best of him and he stole a large chunk of jewels for himself. Eventually the other deities that ruled alongside Astraeus had heard of his actions and exiled him. His punishment for his crimes was to spend the rest of his life wandering the world as a mortal now, the jewels he stole upon his back to weight him down from the burden he'd caused the people he'd stolen them from. As Astraeus was cast out, they told him there was a way for him to return. Only when he could fully purge himself of his greed and prove himself as a god once more could he be allowed back into his home. So now Astraeus travels across the world, alone and desperately trying to reclaim his title.

Short Story: At one point Herus had been alive. He couldn't remember any of it but he knew. Now, he served as the gatekeeper to the afterlife. He chose if spirits got through or not. It wasn't ideal and once in a while resulted in an angry spirit but that's what he had to do. He couldn't remember why he did it either, just that it was his job. He didn't question it. It wasn't his place to. Well, at least he knew better than to. He did once and the consequence wasn't really favorable. So he kept his mouth shut and did as told. It was a rather boring existence unfortunately. He couldn't really do much in the little amount of free time he had. That and mortals couldn't see him. He resembled a spirit himself after all. So he did the next best thing, he observed the living every chance he got. It was pretty interesting and it helped fill that empty spot in his heart. It bothered him to know he could never interact with any of them but it was good enough. At least for now. He had a plan and he would get to do this one thing if it wiped him from existence and from experience that was the most likely outcome. But that didn't matter. One small act of defiance was just a bonus to getting to do something he had wanted to do for so long. His time had come and he was going to make the most of it.
